Who will be the next opponent for Spence ?

Post by ValMar »

Who ? Why ?

I expect he will not move up at LMW by the end of 2021.

Of course, not Crawford, despite it's a #1 priority bout at this weight.

I don’t think Pac will happen. No reason for Manny to take that kind of risky fight.

Pac more likely to face Mikey Garcia. That fight is more money and against a smaller guy for Pac.

Crawford will not happen unless the relations with TR have been completely severed.

Shawn Porter rematch is probably imminent.

If Porter fights Crawford, Ugas or Thurman would be great opponents for Spence's next fight. I doubt Manny Pac takes a Spence fight.

Spence Jr. will face Porter next, followed by Thurman.

I’ve read that Pacquiao has one more fight of his deal with Haymon, so that’s possible, though unlikely, since the Filipino will likely face Mikey Garcia next.

I think we will get Spence/Thurman and Crawford/Porter mid 2021 then Spence/Crawford at the end of 2021 if both win. I think Pacquiao will fight Mikey Garcia.

Doesn't his next opponent have to be Kudatrillo Abdukakhorov? Spence was ordered to do his mandatories by 2 Organizations he is Champion of, and it was decided he would fight D. Garcia first, so Abdukakhrov was supposed to be after D. Garcia, then Spence had a car crash so Abdukakhrov was supposed to fight Lipinets for the Interim title, but Abdukakhorov got injured and had to pull out of the Lipinets fight and Lipinets fought Clayton. It is so confusing, but Abdukakhrov is still ranked #1 so I think he is next.

Money-wise a fight with Pac would be the biggest, followed by a Crawford fight. If Spence beat Pac it would make Crawford fight bigger, and for undisputed.

My money would be on a Porter rematch or Thurman, if One Time looks good in his next bout, providing that bout is before Spence dies of old age.

The media estimates Spence Jr’s final purse for the Danny Garcia bout to be in the region of $10m, with his guaranteed minimum being $8m.

Terence Crawford’s purse for the Kell Brook fight was $4m (as per Mike Coppinger).

And despite typically attracting a smaller viewing audience, much lower PPV buy-rates, possessing fewer titles and a weaker resume at 147lbs, Terence Crawford is on video claiming that his main priority is to face Manny Pacquiao and that he’d have to be paid 60% of the total purse pot in order to face Spence Jr.

Crawford is so commercially unpopular, to the point that even Bob Arum is trying to offload him to Al Haymon.

And to be honest, Spence has lots of lucrative options to face his fellow stablemates, whereas Crawford currently has none, unless he leaves Top Rank and crosses the proverbial street by joining the PBC.

He aint getting 60% so he will have to fornicate off as Arum said.

I really don't get why spence is more popular than crawford. His personality is even worse than crawfords and he is a much less exciting fighter.

I think Spence has a wider following outside of America, he won over a lot of UK fans when he fought Brook. They are both good to watch, so I also find it strange

Kudratillo is still (?) his IBF mandatory due to the Clayton-Lipinets draw. If Spence plans on fighting three times next year it'd make a lot of sense. Get a easy-on-paper mandatory out the way and move on.

In terms of personality, Crawford and Spence Jr. are so dull, they’re capable of making a glass eye go to sleep.

However, Spence Jr. might be more popular for the following reasons:

Faced better opposition.

More opportunities to fight big names.

More titles at 147lbs.

Bigger platform.

Talks to the media.

The car crash.

Overcome adversity.

Has been hyped up by the PBC and also his stablemates.

Those are all valid but I am surprised they overcome:

- 4 division champ vs 1
- undisputed champ at 140 (very few have done it at any division
- Generally considered p4p #1 or 2 for several years
- Fighting on espn for free rather than showtime/ppv
- Consistently produces knockouts. Part of it is competition but spences recent fights have been decisions while Craw has been racking up kos.

In my mind crawford is the bigger fighter but reading posts in seems the general consensus is that spence is the bigger star. I personally did not pay for spence garcia but probably would have paid to see crawford fight garcia.

I think a lot of the crawford hype comes from his 140 undisputed. but dose undisputed really matter when the guys you fight arnt good??,,,he won WBO of Thomas Dulorme.... then WBC of postol (fair enough thats a great win), Then won the other 2 of Indongo.. I think people need to focus on who you beat more than what you won..
