Yeah, he couldn't lose weight for a rematch and now he's nobody.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑06 Dec 2020, 17:26 remember how high people were on andy not that long ago lol, he was so loved and one of the elite. the big 4. gonna retire aj.
If he waits for a big fight he may wait forever. The risk is way bigger than the reward.
He needs to take a few mid level fights to prove he's serious again.
Or retire.
But that two fight money won't last if he keeps buying drinks and bling.

Re: Andy Ruiz vs Arreolla ????
Andy Ruiz Jr. posted a video to his YouTube video two weeks ago of him training with Team Canelo. He's looking in decent shape.
It’s just a personal opinion, but I feel there are a few issues that delayed Ruiz Jr’s comeback, namely:
• Aligning his training schedule to fit with Eddy Reynoso’s, Canelo’s and Ryan Garcia’s
• Lack of available fight dates in the calendar to stage a marquee heavyweight event (i.e. as per the reason why ESPN & Fox couldn’t stage the Wilder-Fury rematch during November/December)
• The outcome of Wilder’s legal situation related to the Fury rematch, which means the PBC may need to seek an alternative foe for Deontay if he can’t face the Brit
I still think that Ruiz Jr. will engage in a tune-up against Chris Arreola, which could be followed up with a fight against Luis Ortiz or (less likely) Deontay Wilder.
Andy Ruiz Jr. cannot simply click his fingers to make fights happen, he’s reliant on the availability of his trainer, TV network scheduling and Al Haymon’s decision-making.
Andy has only just turned 31 years of age, which is a good age for a heavyweight, and today is only the one-year anniversary of his most recent outing. And roughly 50% of the sports’ biggest names have been inactive for longer than Ruiz Jr. has (due to COIV-19).
So there’s nothing to be alarmed about.

Andy has pulled out of many fights for no disclosed reason.

Re: Andy Ruiz vs Arreolla ????
"No disclosed reason" doesn't mean there wasn't a reason. And we both know (or at least I do) that fighters aren't in complete control over their own destiny's.
And how many fights has Andy actually "pulled out of"? You may say "many", but I'll bet you'll struggle to name more than three.
And this might sound rather odd, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Al Haymon eventually allows Andy Ruiz Jr. to face Chris Arreola on the undercard of one of Canelo’s events, because it’ll be a good fit (two durable fleshy Californian-Mexican heavyweights with crowd-pleasing fighting styles) supporting a Mexican superstar (that is also a fellow stablemate).
Canelo is self-promoted and I'm pretty sure Ruiz Jr. is a promotional and network free agent.
Ruiz Jr. vs Arreola – Cinco de May 2021?
We also know that Showtime/PBC were willing to submit a purse bid on the Canelo-Yildrim fight. And we also know that Canelo’s name has been recently linked with several Al Haymon guys, such as Jermall Charlo, Caleb Plant and Errol Spence Jr.

Re: Andy Ruiz vs Arreolla ????
Ruiz Jr is running the risk of becoming irrelevant, which if true would be staggering for a man who was the unified HW champion until 12 months ago.
He's in a tough position because he is too good to be a gatekeeper, but too dangerous for an up and comer to risk fighting; such fighters would be better going straight for a title shot if available.
He needs to get back out there quickly because the titles might be out of reach until at least '22 if the proposed Fury/Joshua showdown and rematch happens next year.
I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Wilder.
That would have an interesting angle as two recently dethroned champions fighting.
The only problem Andy is that he can't be trusted, so who knows what shape he would turn up in?

To be honest, I think I'd worked out that half of BoxRec's top-sixty pound-for-pound fighters hadn't fought since the start of COVID-19, with the majority having never fought at all during 2020.Syntax Error wrote: ↑11 Dec 2020, 10:02Ruiz Jr is running the risk of becoming irrelevant...

And most of those that have fought recently, only faced journeyman, because behind-closed-door events generate less revenue.
I expect 2021 to be a hectic year for boxing, because fighters and promoters will be desperately trying to recoup the money they missed out on this year.
So I'd expect to see Andy engaging in a few bouts within the next twelve months. He already seems to be in good shape, so he may already be capable of taking a bout at short notice.
Re: Andy Ruiz vs Arreolla ????
It looks like Ruiz will go down the WBA route seeing as he is ranked number 5 and Arreloa is ranked 8, but also from the PBC stable will be the Kownacki vs Helenius rematch. Can see the winners meeting in a final eliminator. They also have Frank Sanchez who they have worked with before and is from Cuba, so could potentially be lining him up to face Ortiz in an all Cuban eliminator for the WBC title next year. Efe Ajagba is also highly ranked with the WBC so he is also an option to face Ortiz. Could even have a doubleheader show of Ruiz vs Helenius/Kownacki and Ortiz vs Sanchez/Ajagba next year, I would certainly tune into that!

Luis Ortiz would be an ideal opponent for Andy Ruiz right now.
After that, perhaps Deontay Wilder?

I have been a fan of Andy Ruiz Jr’s for about five years.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑06 Dec 2020, 17:26 remember how high people were on andy not that long ago lol, he was so loved and one of the elite. the big 4. gonna retire aj.
And this is one of my posts from September 2016:
A lot of people at the time attacked me for my thoughts.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑02 Sep 2016, 19:21Andy Ruiz is a hugely impressive fighter. I really do love his fighting style and his amateur record is phenomenal.
In my mind, he has the very best all-round boxing skills of any currently active world-rated heavyweight fighter.
Unfortunately though, his weight issues, coupled with the fact that he's a small guy that should really be competing as a cruiserweight..,
I was also aggressively mocked for my prediction of the Parker-Ruiz Jr. world title fight, despite the fact it was subsequently proven to be 100% accurate.
So I was massively disappointed about Ruiz Jr’s weight gain and overall lack of professionalism in the AJ rematch.
However, I haven’t thrown the towel in with him just yet. He’s lost a lot of weight, he looks fit, he’s become part of Team Canelo and working with one of boxing’s best trainers, Eddy Reynoso, will definitely make him a better fighter.
Andy is still capable of beating many of today’s top-ten heavyweights.
And if you think I’m wrong, then fair enough, that’s up to you, but don’t forget that I’m on a phenomenal run of form with my predictions lately.
Apart from my fight predictions being mostly correct, I was aggressively ridiculed for my thoughts about Yarde, Dubois and Ajagba, which were expressed years before they subsequently became the mainstream popular opinion possessed by the masses.
