Re: Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul | Exhibition - February 20, 2021
This could be a bit of a banana skin for Floyd.
He's fighting someone young enough to be his son that is also six inches taller and outweighs him by 50lbs.
In theory, Mayweather Jr. should dominate Paul with consummate ease, but if he hasn't kept himself in shape, then it'll be tough for him to utilise his skills and experience if he's gassing.
And there are only about ten weeks to go until the proposed date of the exhibition, with a few of those weeks consumed by press interviews, marketing the event etc.
Speed, punch resilience, reaction time and work-rate are the first things a fighter loses through age, with Floyd approaching 44 years of age.
I appreciate the fact that Floyd deserves to be considered a big favourite, but it's not as if Hall-of-Famers haven't previously suffered embarrassing losses in the past.
I still expect Floyd to beat Logal Paul fairly comfortably, but if he underestimates his novice opponent, then he could be in for a tricky ride.
I appreciate a lot of people severely dislike Floyd, but do we really want to see him lose or be made to look really bad by a YouTuber? It won't look good for the sport if he does. That's one of the dozen or so reasons why I really dislike the prospect of this exhibition taking place.

"As a Big Floyd Mayweather Fan I’m not about to partake is this. It’s a joke and a disrespect to the craft of people that really put they all into the sport of boxing this is all a money ploy I get it, get to bag but don’t tarnish ya legacy with this scrub"
Legacy?
What legacy?
Since when did Mayweather give a damn for any notion of legacy?
Or his fans?
Could he have spelled it out any better?
It's Floyd 'Money' Mayweather.
And has been for many years and years...
He's now at the point where he'd fight Mickey Mouse if Disney were willing to pay.
Oh hang on, that might be next...

I doubt any serious boxing fan will pay to see this, unfortunately there will be tons of Logan Paul fans willing to pay and it will generate a fortune ![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)
But can you honestly blame FMM for cashing in? Muhammad Ali had boxing exhibitions with other sportsmen and Im sure if the internet was a thing then Ali would've cashed in too.

Really can’t understand knowledgeable boxing getting their knickers in a twist over this, novelty fights have been a thing from the beginnings of the sport so it’s nothing new, Floyds legacy is intact and this does nothing to diminish it, he’s an ex fighter making easy money so what?
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul | Exhibition - February 20, 2021
Very good point. And generally they were exhibitions and a bit of fun, like Ali versus Inoki.littlepug wrote: ↑07 Dec 2020, 14:24 Really can’t understand knowledgeable boxing getting their knickers in a twist over this, novelty fights have been a thing from the beginnings of the sport so it’s nothing new, Floyds legacy is intact and this does nothing to diminish it, he’s an ex fighter making easy money so what?
Trouble is 2 things when it comes to Mayweather:
1. McGreggor fight went on his boxrec and Logan Paul also has a pro licence...
51-0 baby!!!
2. The Tenshin fight in Japan was an exhibition, as he was both far smaller and a kickboxer. Trouble is Floyd didn't treat it like an exhibition, which made it a difficult watch and pretty shameful.
Especially as he didn't let him get out the first round of a 3 round exhibition on the Japanese quivalent of Christmas day, but was more than happy to carry McGreggor.
Pretty sure he only did that for the possibility of a money spinning rematch down the line with McGreggor, but he was more than happy to grab the bag and disrespect the Japanese who were hosting him.
You nailed itThomastearns wrote: ↑07 Dec 2020, 13:30 "As a Big Floyd Mayweather Fan I’m not about to partake is this. Tank says he wants to be on the Undercard Gary Russell Jr would be a good matchup Baltimore VS Washington D.C.
Mayweather Jr. is the type who whatever he does he wants to be THEE BEST, so now that he is a Promoter, I expect his undercards will be stacked like the Don King Undercards way back when, Yes Mayweather Jr. VS Paul is a Sideshow, but his Cards will be so stacked it will make the Hard Core fans extremely happening Tank VS Russell JR. may only be the 4th best matchup on the card, It will be loaded with highly regarded fighters all matched extremely tough.

Re: Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul | Exhibition - February 20, 2021
Agreed. I'm not too fond of this exhibiton, but 99% of today's fighters would be willing to fight Logan Paul if they were paid the purse that Floyd is receiving.Thomastearns wrote: ↑07 Dec 2020, 13:30"As a Big Floyd Mayweather Fan I’m not about to partake is this. And let's not forget the hypocrisy of fighters in general, because those that will criticise this event are probably annoyed about not receiving a similar opportunity.
For instance, didn't Oscar De La Hoya originally clamour for the Conor McGregor bout, but then aggressively lambasted Floyd Mayweather for his willingness to take it?
Floyd’s boxing legacy is set in stone. His participation in or the outcome of the Logan Paul exhibition cannot possibly adversely affect it.Thomastearns wrote: ↑07 Dec 2020, 13:30Legacy?

He’ll be approaching 44 years of age and is fighting an opponent that is six inches taller and also outweighs him by 50lbs. Logan Paul is also young enough to be Money May’s son.
So whatever happens in this money-making novelty circus event, it won’t tarnish Floyd’s legacy in any way.
His last legitimate boxing bout took place more than five years ago. And he’s entitled to earn big bucks during his retirement by engaging in spectacles against the likes of Conor McGregor, Tenshin Nasukawa and Logan Paul.
Boxers are known as “PRIZE fighters” not “PRIDE fighters”. And you’ll be hard-pressed to name many professional fighters that are willing to compete without being paid their commercial worth.Thomastearns wrote: ↑07 Dec 2020, 13:30Could he have spelled it out any better?
It's Floyd 'Money' Mayweather.
And has been for many years and years...
And I'd even go as far as to claim that Floyd's purse for the Logan Paul exhibition probably dwarfs the sums currently commanded by today's biggest stars of boxing (i.e. those not named Canelo, AJ, Pacquiao and Fury).
Agreed, but as long as mainstream casuals are willing to pay for these novelty spectacles, then they’ll continue being staged.Thomastearns wrote: ↑07 Dec 2020, 13:30He's now at the point where he'd fight Mickey Mouse if Disney were willing to pay.

And to be fair, you’ve got to have achieved great things in the sport of boxing, such as the likes of Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather, as well as successfully built a commercially popular brand name, in order to EARN the opportunity to compete in these money-making farces!
Many fighters will probably criticise these business ventures, by citing the alleged nobility of the sport or arguing that they undermine boxing's legacy, but the honest reality is that most of these critics are simply jealous about being unable to command the sort of sums Floyd is receiving to engage in these novelty exhibitions.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a retired all-time-great. What else should he do with his retirement?
If somebody approaches him with a massive wad of cash to engage in a minimal-risk entertainment event, to showcase his skills against novices, then what is he supposed to do?
Reject these opportunities and take up knitting or crochet instead? Is that what you would do?

Now there's an idea, boxers v weight exempted celebrity non-boxers.
Celebrity still sells despite persistently cheapening itself for decades.
In the UK celebs like Gary Lineker and Piers Morgan could certainly draw a large audience (of mainly those who'd love to see them get battered).
The drawback would be that the celebs would want ever more extravagant purses to face the bigger men.
So unfortunately we're not likely to see Anthony Joshua flatten Boris Johnson in the near future. Even if there's a minimum weight difference in that would-be epic clash.

By the Way Jimmy Paul was an excellent Lightweight in the 1980's If Logan Paul can get his Boxing Skills to the level of Jimmy Paul in his prime by the time he fights Mayweather Jr, Then Mayweather will have his hands full.

WBC Prez Smiles: I Will 100% Support Mayweather vs. Paul
World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman has no problem with the recently announced exhibition clash between former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather and Youtube star Logan Paul.
Mayweather, 43-years-old, retired back in August of 2017, with his unbeaten 50-0 record, after stopping UFC superstar Conor McGregor in the tenth round at Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena.
Paul, 25-years-old, is extremely popular on social media, but he's severely lacking boxing experience in comparison to Mayweather, who many regarded as the best boxer of this generation.
Their contest, financially backed by Fanmio Boxing, is taking place on February 20th on pay-per-view.
Mayweather unretired in December 2018, when he traveled to Japan and demolished kickboxing star Tenshin Nasukawa in the first round of an exhibition.
Paul, who outweighs Mayweather by at least 50-pounds, made his professional boxing debut in the fall of 2019, when he lost a six round split decision to Youtube rival KSI.
Since the announcement of the February fight, widespread criticism has erupted in the sport.
But, Sulaiman views the contest as a positive for boxing.
“This is going to be something good for boxing. This is going to bring millions of eyes to our sport. I appreciate Logan and Jake [Paul], they have worked hard. I will support Floyd vs Logan 100 percent,” Sulaiman told The Sun.
Sulaiman's position is not surprising, with his organization backing last month's pay-per-view exhibition between retired former champion Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr.
Mayweather reportedly made $9 million for the contest with Nasukawa. He expects to make a lot more for the bout with Paul.
“This is going to be a great night for the fans worldwide as we are bringing something special to them through sports and entertainment. I have never shied away from doing things differently throughout my career and fighting Logan Paul in this special exhibition is just another opportunity for me to do it again," Mayweather said.
