They will need strong content.. But it's not gonna be easy... Sky and BT have a lot of different sports covered, leagues etc..

What's left?

They'd need to offer big bucks.

Football fans won't be happy is DAZN gets some games.

Sky, BT already share the games.. Amazon got in there too..

its certainly seems debatable that there may or may not be room for 3rd broadcaster in the UK going head to head with SKY and BT .

Anything that increases competition should be good for the fans if it leads to lower prices ..

The Sky Sports / BT Sport model will soon be obsolete. If you don’t like football then you’re paying way over the odds for their sports channels.

Your modern sports fan wants to choose his preferred offerings as and when he wants them from an a la carte menu and will not accept being tied in to a long term contract.

Isn't there talk of Hearn signing an extension..... my belief is Sky will focus solely on UK fights involving Matchroom fighters (and AJ).

My question is more of a personal one being still in the dark ages about streaming - will DAZN ever be broadcast on a sky platform - e.g. like Netflix is broadcast via Sky Q (I think - I do not have it)..... will there ever be the capility of recording DAZN shows.

I don't know if I have a smart tv - I just have a Sky+ box.... but I believe Sky Q gives you netflix also.

The biggest fights next year from a British point of view will all include one of Tyson Fury, AJ, and Dillian Whyte.

None of their fights will be on DAZN in the UK at £1.99 per month.

There's then a dearth of fighters behind them who can make DAZN any kind of mainstream 'must have'. That's why it's £1.99 a month.

The days of silly money for DAZN have gone.So it'll be a big brave step for Matchroom to hitch their wagon to DAZN in the UK. Doesn't mean it won't happen though.

I don’t think Eddie will move the U.K. boxing content to DAZN. He’s got a good thing going with Sky and they promote fights in the U.K. better than anyone. Eddie will make the bulk of his boxing profits from the PPVs - I think he gets 20% of the net profits of the show which is a good chunk of money. Matchroom are heavily interlinked with Sky and its good business to diversify. I’d they move everything to DAZN and they go bust then they’re in bad shape.

I think we’ll be better off. £1.99 isn’t much and they have a pretty good portfolio of fighters. I’d be happy enough to pay £24 (12 x £2) just to watch their line up over the next 4 weeks - Golovkin, Smith/Canelo and Campbell/Price.

As I said I don’t think Eddie will jump. In fact I’d be amazed if just doesn’t use it to get a better deal out of Sky. If he does then I’d expect Sky to link up with MTK. They’re the only one to have stuck with boxing through 30 or so years and it’s one of the few sports that can drive incremental revenues through PPVs.

Re: DAZN pricing I think it depends on what you get for your money boxing wise. If you get what you get now (Golden Boy and US Matchroom shows) then it’ll be worth £5/month maybe. If you get all of the other Matchroom shows then maybe £10/£12 per month I’d say.

To be a success in the U.K. it’ll need more sports than just boxing. allegedly lost money every year and didn’t have any equitable value. All they’re doing at the moment though is trying to drive more revenue from a stable cost base. Their additional costs will really only be in marketing DAZN in the new countries. Their priority will be on driving US subscribers and paid subscribers elsewhere will just be a bonus.

This is a dated opinion. You can buy individual sky sports channels now.

If you only like F1 you can buy the Sky sports F1 channel for a fraction of the price of all the channels.

And still there will be people in here saying Sky sports costs £100 a month.

Yeh, Sky has Sky sports News and for the bigger fights they use Sky News (AJ-Wlad)..

They are a promotional powerhouse.

Yes I am aware of that, but I like recording onto DVD for the "forever" posterity.... as I said very old fashioned. I don't think you can do that with Netflix - but I thought you could with Netflix vs Sky Q.

Can you buy Sky Sports F1 as a stand-alone channel without having a sky subscription though ? If so then I agree with you, if not then it becomes quite an expensive way to watch your favourite sport, tied in to a lengthy contract and if your circumstances change “fornicate you pay me”

Amazon got there mucky little paws on some rugby too, I missed the England vs France match at the weekend because of them.

We used to just pay a load of money to sky and that had us covered.

Now we need to pay for sky, a bt payment on top of that, amazon are already getting a foot in the door, Netflix and Disney will soon follow I'm sure, not to mention dazn and espn.

This is a myth. Before they brought in competition you could watch all the Premier League with a Sky subscription. Now you need Sky, BT Sport and Amazon Prime if you want to have access to every game. The cost of these three is way more than it was when it was just on Sky.

If DAZN enter the market you'll need another monthly subscription to watch all the fights. I'm not saying you do at all, but it's seems to me some boxing fans live in a fantasy world where everything will be on DAZN and all we'll need to do is pay a couple of quid a month for every fight.

I wonder if someone like MTK Global could pick up the DAZN UK contract? Would make sense for both as they do have good fights already and with the backing of DAZN could I am sure make larger fights. DAZN would get subscribers as MTK gets a good amount of viewers on IFL.

I believe it is, although I think the person broadcasting it is the one breaking the law. Could be wrong though.
