Boxing promoter Barry Raff passes

Post by raydoug »

Boxing promoter Barry Raff has sadly passed away
Barry boxed as a professional in the 1960’s and in the 1970’s as Barry Darcy. He had six fights. I first met him in 1971 when he trained at Paul Jackson’s gym at Auburn. Ron Beekin trained there also
Barry became a hard working promoter in the 1990’s and was very successful. He loved to travel and spent many months in Thailand, India and Cambodia. He apparently was very ill in hospital in Cambodia in July. I found this message

Barry promoted one of the fights I had at North Sydney Leagues Club. Picked me up from the airport and showed us a bit of stuff around Sydney. Provided me with a trainer to corner me and wrap my hands. All good things to say about Barry in the only time I dealt with him. RIP Barry.
