Chicago boxer Andrzej "Andrew" Golota was charged Thursday with more than a dozen misdemeanor weapons charges as police investigate his alleged involvement in an alleged sexual assault, authorities said Thursday.
The 38-year-old boxer, of the 8000 block of West Berwyn, is facing 12 counts of failing to register a weapon -- one count for each weapon found in the boxer's Northwest Side home -- and carrying a revoked FOID card, said police spokeswoman JoAnn Taylor.
The charges stem from an an incident about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when a man driving in the vicinity of Madison and Larrabee, west of the Loop, approached two women walking in the area and ordered them, at gunpoint, into a car.
The man then drove the women to a residence on the Northwest Side. One of the women claims she was sexually assaulted, Taylor said, and the other was ordered to wait in the living room. The two eventually escaped and called police; at least one of the women identified Golota as the attacker, Taylor said.
