Who will you root for, Joshua or Fury ?
Re: Who will you root for, Joshua or Fury ?
AJ. Liked him since the Olympics. Like Fury too, but too much drama.
Re: Who will you root for, Joshua or Fury ?
Seems like only yesterday that this poll would be dominated by AJ. My oh my how times have changed.
Re: Who will you root for, Joshua or Fury ?
I put may the best man win, as I think Joshua has been a great champion, but like others I've followed Fury longer. And I used to live in Manchester so there's that.
But I just want to see the fight. And I'll applaud whoever comes out on top. Though like RKO I kind of hope it's Fury.
As an aside regarding his popularity compared to Joshua. Joshua came through the Olympics program so that was always going to be a massive advantage after he won Gold at the LONDON Olympics. Then add on the corporate media machine that has always supported Joshua. It's not hard to see why Joshua would be so popular. Though his talent certainly backs it up.
Also for Fury, I'm sure like most, his traveller's heritage has never bothered me either way, but I can say for certain back home some people have never warmed to him because of it. I think that is partially why he doesn't have a bigger following in the UK. And of course he has never been the most, shall we say Politically Correct with his comments, which is a massive no-no in modern Britain. But about him testing positive, rightly or wrongly, it won't be on the radar of most fans except the hardcore.
TLDR: May the best man win (cough: Fury)

I'm the same, although I do tend to favour my countryman in an international bout.

Re: Who will you root for, Joshua or Fury ?
yea your bang on his traveller roots,it is a huge reason why he isnt bigger than he is in the uk and the irish are snobby to about it, i cant stand that nonsense no lie i have known some irish travellers that kinda shunned him like he aint irish , he is a true boxing fighting man to his bones judge him on that but i think the man is much more, he has been exemplar geezer , i cant think of a sports man like better than himFinkel wrote: ↑13 Dec 2020, 23:18 I put may the best man win, as I think Joshua has been a great champion, but like others I've followed Fury longer. It would be bigger, better & more exciting for the division & boxing if AJ knocks Fury out
Re: Who will you root for, Joshua or Fury ?
dont agree heavy weight boxing is bigger than that now , there is 6 to 8 really good fighters there with in the division ,fury aj. uysk wilder, whtye jj,parker ruizPost 4 Post wrote: ↑15 Dec 2020, 22:24 It would be bigger, better & more exciting for the division & boxing if AJ knocks Fury out
Re: Who will you root for, Joshua or Fury ?
Nope, we're down to two and a waiting list of prospects a year or two away. The 'others:' - Whyte; Parker and Ruiz are not top guys and won't sniff the top tier again. Joyce is promising, but not top guy (yet?). Usyk is still untested at HW. Wilder? Re: Who will you root for, Joshua or Fury ?
I usually dont root for fighters unless they are A) Puerto Rican or B) at least, Latino and fighting a non-Puerto Rican or non Latino. So I would not root for anyone here. Which in a way makes it more exciting since when i watch it (provided I can here in the US!) my passion will be for the fight, not for any of the two fighters.
Now, that could work both ways: When I saw Wilfredo Gomez and Wilfred Benitez fight as a kid, I was passionate for them as well as for Thomas Hearns versus Marvelous Marvin Hagler, and i enjoyed all those fights, even Gomez losing and Benitez losing. When I saw Micky Ward and Arturo Gatti and Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales, I was not passionate for any of them but I also enjoyed those fights crazily....
So, I guess, i won't be rooting for any of them, but for boxing. If that makes any sense.

Re: Who will you root for, Joshua or Fury ?
That's what a lot of people said during the 80's, Larry Holmes not withstanding. With Trevor Berbick, James Tillis, Mike Weaver, Michael Dokes, Marvis Frazier, Randall Cobb, etc, many unfairly but understandably saw it as a down era in Heavyweight boxing. To me this was unfair because these guys were all certainly capable fighters who kept the division alive, but also understandable because they came after the greatest crop of Heavyweights of all time in Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Earnie Shavers, Ken Norton, Ron Lyle, Holmes himself, George Chuvalo, Chuck Wepner, Mac Foster, Jerry Quarry, Floyd Patterson, Ringo Bonavena, Sonny Liston, Leotis Martin, Jimmy Ellis...the 60s to the late 70s in Heavyweight boxing were REALLY loaded.
After this understandably but also unfairly looked down at era came the second greatest era in Heavywegiht boxing history, of course, with Tyson, Michael Spinks earlier and then Buster Douglas, Evander Holyfield, Foreman and Holmes again, Lennox Lewis, Ray Mercer, Tommy Morrison, Michael Moorer and Riddick Bowe....so....a great era of Heavyweight boxing can be upon us soon again!

Fury doesn't even have backing from UK fans, He never looked like a champion for all departments, regardless wins

The 80's weren't boring. Holmes was a great fighter to watch, and he had pretty good fighters to face with some terrific fights. To your point (I think), the Ali era was a tough act to follow.AntonioMartin wrote: ↑16 Dec 2020, 00:21That's what a lot of people said during the 80's, Larry Holmes not withstanding. The black guy
Re: Who will you root for, Joshua or Fury ?
I’ll be rooting for AJ. I think either AJ knocks him out or Fury schools him.
Why AJ? Apart from the last Wilder fight, Fury is rather boring to watch. Let’s fair, Wilder was an accident waiting to happen and would’ve been exposed by any decent HW not 40 plus.
It will be interesting though (if it happens). I do have feeling that one of them might lose first.
