Ward had the better career at Super Middleweight, but I'd say when you factor in Toney's achievements at Cruiserweight and Heavyweight he has the better overall career.

He was 2x Fighter of the Year.

Andre Ward was probably fighter of the year when he won the Super 6, but I don't think he did it twice.

Ward has a more consistently high level of opponent he faced, but a lot less overall fights. Plus Ward's 2 biggest wins that he retired on are shams.

Does combat sports include boxing? Because if 99% of boxing fans don't know who James Toney is, then they're dumb as f*ck. Toney has competed in 19 world title fights and won world titles in 4 weight divisions. He was p4p top 10 at one point and has wins against Mike McCallum, Michael Nunn, Reggie Johnson, Vassily Jirov, and past-it Holyfield. And he portrayed Joe Frazier in Ali.
