The proposed Elcock battle was a bit of bastard. Injury and illness caused both fighters to pull out, then the fight just got swept under the table. I'm pretty sure the Elcock camp have been offered the fight a few times since, but they've never wanted it. Neither fighter has much to gain from the fight. Gary would prove, and gain nothing chinning Elcock.
Believe you me, Elcock would fight anyone. He hasn't been offered the fight since it was was proposed the first time, if he had been offered it again i'm sure he would have taken it.

It's a common misconception that Wayne is 'chinny'. If Elcock was 'chinny' how come Yuri Tsarkenko couldnt knock him down after landing a heavy, heavy right hand? This is the same Tsarenko that had taken Lockett to school a fight earlier.

When Murphy beat Wayne, the shot that knocked Wayne out was a right to the TEMPLE, it never landed on his jaw. In the rematch he anhilated him, knocking him down three-times. Murphy landed some decent blows, but couldn't stop Elcock in his tracks.

As for the Lockett-Elcock fight. Well, i would favour Wayne. I think everyone has gone a bit overboard with the Eastman performance, who, in truth was only an Area level fighter at light-middleweight and could never take the greatest shot. Before that win, could you honestly say Lockett was looking much cop, eh?

Elcock is an excellent counter-puncher, who i would favour to pot shot the incoming Lockett all night.

Just my opinion, though!

I agree Tom - Elcock would take that fight, no danger - though after seeing an 'injured' Lockett jumping out ofhis seat in suppport of a gym mate, I thin kWayne was a bit pi55ed off to be honest - he had sold loads of tickets to mates for that fight and refunds werent available.

Elcock has the boxing skills to give the somewhat one-paced, if heavy handed, Lockett fits.

:D lol I thought mentioning that might piss people off a bit, but I didn't bring the Elcock subject up.

Elcock boxed Tsarenko over 10 and was in BIG trouble at the end suggesting Tsarenko would have pushed for the stoppage had the fight been a 12 rounder (which Locketts was).

All things aside, I've got nothing against Wayne, and there's no need for such a hostile response Tom. I know we are both close to the parties envolved, but had Gary been fit for a 12 rounder with Elcock he would have gone through with the fight. However he was not. Jumping out of your seat exitedly to encourage your friend does not mean you are fit for 12 rounds of boxing. You understand that right?

I'm pretty sure Elcock HAS been offered the fight since then though, but I'm not certain.

Gary would beat Elcock quite comfortably to be honest, too strong, too accurate. I'm not really saying Elcock is particulary 'chinny', he showed heart against Dann, and he's reversed the Murphey result, I'm just saying Gary would be too strong for him. If Gary has to punch him in the temple.... So be it.

Elcock has had his chances, and he lost. Now he must be patient and hope another chance comes for him. Gary too lost, and has been waiting for a long time to get back into things.

Eastman was a late sub due to Gary's opponent pulling out late (Rhodes), nobody suggested he was grade A (but who else was offered the fight eh???? Who didn't want it???). Shit happens, it's the nature of the game and not something to get bitter and twisted about.

I wish Wayne all the best, and I'd like to see him fight Gary, as I don't think Gary would have any problems offering any of the top domestic Middles a shot, so he could prove his dominancy of the Domestic Middle scene (unlike Dan).

I rate Locketts power, I've been watching boxing for years and you know when someone has that bit extra in power.
Locketts when he's on form and blasting can take anyone out, I think what you see when Locketts lands is his opponents look surprised and hurt, also he short circuits there bodies , he doesn't do clubbing KO's, Locketts Ko's are blast outs.

I dont think Elcock has been offered the fight again, based on the last time they were proposed to meet i doubt he would want all the hassle again, i think Wayne sold over 400 tickets and there were no refunds on offer, when Lockett was jumping up and down having pulled out with a knee injury, did not go down well with anyone involved, it looked very much like he had been shafted(dont know if he had been or not), Lockett is very heavy handed, but against someone with movement if think he will struggle, he markes up badly also, but has improved under Brian Hughes in the last couple of years, also everyone recently who has held the WBU has lost it in the first defence, If Rhodes keeps on the move he can win, but Lockett has always had the power to end a fight in one punch.

Fair point, there are ways to get at every fighter, and that may be the key to Gary. I don't think Wayne has got the answer though.

Again I feel like I'm banging my head against a wall here when I talk about the Elcock fight falling through. Read my last post and try and comprehend.

Gary was forgotten about for a long time after losing. Why would he not want to make a statement and get back in the mix by beating Elcock??
If he was fit to fight he would have done so. He was not. He did not. No shafting, no ulterior motives, no fear ( ), no nothing.

Fair comment dont get me wrong i've been a good mate of Waynes for over 20 years, i've seen all the highs and lows, but things were certainly against him fighting Lockett, there's no bad blood between them, Wayne is with a good team now and hopefully the two may meet in the future, Both in the past have not been pressured by there respective promoters and i have to be honest have not by any means forfilled the early potential.
