Saunders should NOT be chosen for Canelo?

Post by Jimmy2020 »

Canelo says he wants to unify at SMW.

Saunders has the skills and ability to keep up with what Alvarez is doing technically but he is physically so much weaker and could get steam rolled.

How would that match go and should Canelo take it next?

Edited: changed the title as I initially thought Canelo would choose Saunders but I'm now not sure he should.

Saunders has some tiny chances to win a tag game, but, of course, it's hard to pick him to win.

well, there are also plant and benavidez at 168, and benavidez could be a big cinco de mayo all mehican fight

canelo's boxing skills have come on huge over the years, he has too much of almost everything for bjs and would beat him handily. even if bjs is on his bike, canelo has excellent timing and handspeed, and the shots to the body could be a killer

Saunders gets smashed to pieces. He'll try and run and pot shot during the fight but will have his body ripped to shreds.

much much much prefer him to da other white boi, caleb plant. plus canelo might face backlash from the enviornmentalists if he beats up a plant

GGG v Canelo 3 doesn't interest me. Saul is too big for him now.

Several of the names mentioned above are interesting. I suppose Saunders' nationality may work against him now. Another (perceived) soft Brit might not go down well with the hard minded Mexican fans.

Canelo should take it because it would make my 2021 better when he knocks the crap out of him! :yay:

Saunders, provided he's in peak condition, beats Canelo; but, it won't be enjoyable to watch. The old argument about discerning boxing from running will come into play along with a debate on whether or not the aggressor was effective.

If Canelo moves up in weight or is going after GGG it will excite everyone.

If those fights can't be made who else is there? BJS and his belt is as good as any.

Not much depth at cruiser at mo, that would make him 5 weight champ?

Yep, totally agree. Saunders doesn’t have the power to perturb Alvarez, who will close the distance with ease and smash away at the arms and body of Saunders.

Canelo uses the right technique, he smashes the body rather than head-hunt. You can move your head out of the way but it’s far more difficult to do that with the torso.

I see an exhausted Saunders being stopped late. He doesn’t have the conditioning to last the distance with such a relentless fighter.

BJS is operating a division up from his natural fighting weight. He would present Canelo with less of a challenge than Callum Smith did.

Nothing would please me more than seeing Saunders get iced by Canelo

Yildrim then Plant then BJS over the next 12 months would be a very impressive and reasonable approach to take over the entire division.

I'm sure saunders will price himself out of it Anyway, but hes got very little chance of winning. He wont be able to keep Canelo off him forever, and he doesnt throw enough punches, nor hit hard enough to stand and trade. Saunders is a good fighter, but Canelo is the whole package, theres no weaknesses, speed, technique, defences, power, variety in his work, and a great chin.

GGG is on the slide, several years past his best and he beat Canelo the first time - i wouldnt like to see a 3rd fight

BJS would just get walked down and stopped around midway after a one sided mauling

Canelo is a modern phenomenon but making himself a multi weight world champ by beating a diminished Kovalev and an ordinary (by elite level) champion in Smith doesnt automatically grant him all time great status. If he fights either Beterbiev or Bivol and gives them time for a proper camp and steamrollers them in the same fashion then the doubters won't have a leg to stand on.

The fight for me has to be Beterbiev v Canelo

Beterbiev carries the power to hurt him and he too.is relentless.

That could be a step too far for Canelo

Beterbiev is definitely a powerful unit. Similar to Canelo in that regard. I'm not convinced he has the best chin though, he's been dropped in a few fights now by lesser fighters than Canelo.
