Canelo gives me hope for the heavyweight division

Seeing that little tank on the march against 6'3" Smith last night has given me hope that an exciting shorter heavyweight could still come along one day and batter these 6'6"+ heavyweights who have been boring us silly for the best part of two decades. Would love to see a 6'0" - 6'2" ish killer on the loose, tearing up Joshua, Fury, etc...

Hmmm. Think of the number of fights Canelo has built up, has had to build up, to get to that level of skill and ring craft where the implicit disadvantages of his shorter frame can be mitigated. I don’t see anyone developing that level of skill in less that 40 fights, and I cant see anyone around that size being given/ giving themselves enough fights to build the skill and knowledge base. Cruiser-heavyweights don’t go pro at 15.

I don’t think Usyk is ‘that’ guy as the fighter you describe has to have impactful power punching as part of his armoury IMO, and I think the career trajectory you’re describing is on me that can only be developed with long pro experience (and may be hindered by too much AMA experience)

Height prob not as much as a factor as is the correlation that the taller hws are usually much naturally heavier/bigger built than the shorter guys. in lower weights that is controlled a bit through having weight limits....so instead of fighting 6'3 dorticos or luis ortiz fights 6'3 smith

Some say Marciano could beat some of the big slow diddies around today, is that what you mean? Aside from that angle I’d say most posters over in that forum feel that Joe Louis/Ali size heavies are the ideal.

I know it will but I don't care about the whole country. I care about what I find interesting. As you know, I rate Fury highly (but find him boring to watch), I also rate Joshua and Usyk. The rest of the division is pure garbage.

Povetkin is the closest thing we have. All the up and comers seem massive generally though. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Evgeny Romanov at 6ft, but he's way off the power levels of Tyson or Tua.

Canelo really took the loss to Mayweather well. He needed that fight to develop into the fighter he is today.
