Re: Rating the Brits vs Alvarez
Khan was more successful in 6 rounds than any of the others were in their whole fights. He was the only guy of them who was boxing at Canelo's level and hanging competiviely with him, could make a case that he was ahead and he was never outclassed in a round until the ending. The other guys taking beatings for more rounds doesnt compare in terms of success....if that's' your standard then put Callum and Rhodes and Hatton above Liam too.
Not sure why everyone is so high on Liam's performance, he got drubbed, bounced off the canvas repeatedly and stopped, and maybe won like a round at best when Canelo was having a look at the start. Matt Hatton did better than him too.
Fielding obviously did the worst

Without watching all the fights again, I'd probably revise that list of mine if I did

Khan by far
Re: Rating the Brits vs Alvarez
Liam's one should be somewhere in the middle - low range FFS. Stop bringing him on here. He wasn't either outboxing Canelo or hurting him, while he ended up battered and brutally stopped.
Callum's performance was even better, cause he scored about the same amount of success, while he never was down or hurt that much.
Khan is clearly the best. He was simply outboxing Canelo until he was caught on his weak chin. However, anyway, it all was clear from the beginning there, Canelo was letting Khan to work, while he was settling a target.

The thing with guys like Rhodes and Hatton, they got a very young Canelo.
Canelo has and is still improving per fight..

Khan by far
He is the man we love to hate because he is a bit chinny.
Alvarez was much bigger.
Khan was the only one with the skilset to be competive, in fact I had him winning.
This is why Khan has earned the big bucks

Re: Rating the Brits vs Alvarez
Khan was comfortably ahead on my card at the time of the stoppage. Obviously that he got starched is all that matters in the record book but he's the only one who gave Saul anything to think about. Shame God didn't give him a strong chin, he's one of the best from these shores in terms of ability.

Mmm, see that’s why I struggle to see Khan as performing ‘the best’ - it seems to me that the outcome was inevitable and everyone was just waiting for the brutal ko to happen. I feel that negates the early success pretty conclusively, since the result was never ever in doubt and Khan had virtually zero chance of seeing the final bell. It’s not like it was a lucky punch that would never be repeated; Canelo would annihilate Khan 10 times out of 10.

Khan had the most success. He's number 1 against Alverez IMO.
Honourable mention to Matthew Hatton, who fought tooth & nail to stay in there until the end.

Re: Rating the Brits vs Alvarez
Canelo really dislikes the Brits doesn’t he ? especially northerners
Re: Rating the Brits vs Alvarez
1. Khan (although it never looked in doubt being honest)
2. Hatton. He tried everything, was there to win for sure.
3. Rhodes. At the time I was disappointed but he had some moments
4. L.Smith...outgunned really game but lost everything
5. C.Smith really on a par with Liam but I expected more.
6..Fielding...well doesnt look quite as bad after Saturday now
2. Hatton. He tried everything, was there to win for sure.
3. Rhodes. At the time I was disappointed but he had some moments
4. L.Smith...outgunned really game but lost everything
5. C.Smith really on a par with Liam but I expected more.

Canelo wasn't trying all that hard against Khan. I doubt he would go 6 rounds with Canelo when he's in a Golovkin fight frame of mind.

Khan enjoyed most success but Fielding looked like he enjoyed his beating the most

That was disgusting. British boxing has become a laughing stock with the lack of heart, toughness and will to win lately.handsofstone wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 16:00 Khan enjoyed most success but Fielding looked like he enjoyed his beating the most

did the outcome look anything but inevitable vs any of the brits canelo fought though?Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 10:04Mmm, see that’s why I struggle to see Khan as performing ‘the best’ - it seems to me that the outcome was inevitable and everyone was just waiting for the brutal ko to happen. At least there was the intrigue of whether it would go the distance in the other fights (except Fielding who may as well not have bothered turning up), but that was never a possibility for Khan.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 17:10did the outcome look anything but inevitable vs any of the brits canelo fought though?Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 10:04Mmm, see that’s why I struggle to see Khan as performing ‘the best’ - it seems to me that the outcome was inevitable and everyone was just waiting for the brutal ko to happen. Majority of UK based boxers almost always lose to US/Mexican boxers..
There's literally a handful that don't fall into this..

Yeh, who else would fall into it? Lennox Lewis based most of his career in the US anyway..mickey1975 wrote: ↑21 Dec 2020, 07:31The Gypsy King?Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑21 Dec 2020, 05:52 Majority of UK based boxers almost always lost to US/Mexican boxers..

Amir Khan didn't do too bad there, had a number of fights there when he signed with GBP.
Joe Calzaghe had success there after spending most his in the UK.
Nigel Benn was undefeated in the US, in 4 fights, biggest fight/win was Iran Barkley.
Even when US boxers come over to the UK, Spence, Tim Bradley, Crawford to name a few.
Liam Smith went over twice in 2 world title fights, lost both.
AJ's only fight in the US was a loss.
