Bad news, losing to a last minute sub!Late sub Jerome Ellis (11-4-1, 10 KOs) scored a surprising sixth round knockout over big-punching Neil Sinclair (28-5, 23 KOs), spoiling the latter's U.S. debut Wednesday night at the City Auditorium in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Ellis ended it with a left hook to the body that put Sinclair down for the count at 1:49.

Pity Neils comeback fell apart, I had a feeling of an upset as he's not been active in a long time. I know Neil, he's a sound guy but he should hang them up. He told me 2 years ago his heart was not in Boxing and he never boxed for the money. His pride and joy was his Lonsdale belt and I think once he got that outright and then the talk came of WBU, that was the beginning of the end. The bigger fights after being British Champion never came and he looked let down by this.
Also when he pulled out against Vince Phillips that did not look good either, I thought Old Man Phillips would of Knocked Neil out had they fought. Maybe he can get into training fighters in the US, he's a better chance there than Belfast as it's already covered in the small professional level here.

Just took a look at Ellis record, ok hes been beat 4 times, but he's 10 knockouts in 11 wins, that's an ideal fighter with a punch to put Sinclair in with on a long lay off comeback.
Apart from that cut mess with Taz Jones, Neil did not have rounds under his belt in 2 years never mind being clean punched.
Best of luck to Neil for the future

The guy was a last minute replacement. They didn't plan on fighting him.The Hawk wrote:Just took a look at Ellis record, ok hes been beat 4 times, but he's 10 knockouts in 11 wins, that's an ideal fighter with a punch to put Sinclair in with on a long lay off comeback.![]()

Yes I read that Nick, even so, I'm sure in that size of country they could of picked another fighter even at last minute. Well that was the hand that he was given and he paid the price of facing a last minute puncher coming of that lay off.nickd wrote:The guy was a last minute replacement. I think your right, to be honest I did not think this comeback would amount to much anyway. If his heart was not in it 2 plus years ago and he pulled out once in the States, it has to be questioned.nickd wrote:Would have happened against anyone I reckon, I have read Sinclair was winning going away and went down from a single innocuous looking body shot. He practically gave up by the sounds of it.
I'd like to see the fight anyway, even John Breen who trained Sinclair for a long time said to me he was wasting his talents by not knowing what he wanted to do and it got to John as he was close to Neil.

Just watched the fight, and i Ellis was a tough opponent to get in with, although not very skilled , he is a tough , fit wild slugger type.
Sinclair looked ok, but seemed to get tired from mid-way in the 4th, In the 6th Sinclair looked ok, then as they went into a clinch Ellis fired in a left to the body, it actually landed with the inside of the glove, but completly knocked all the wind out of Sinclair, he went down doubled up on his knees, Sinclair hardley moved during the count, and when he did manage to raise his head you could see he was absoulute agony. He still looked pained when sitting on his stool in the corner a couple of minutes later.
I would say that i'd be surprised if we see Sinclair in the ring again. He was very sporting in defeat, congratulating Ellis and posing for photo's with him.
Ellis may not be a world beater, but would give any up and coming boxer a good fight.

That's a very harsh thing to say about Sinclair without having even watched the fight. I've seen it and Sinclair cerainly didn't give up. Whatever way the punch caught him it left him in a lot of pain. He still looked in agony 5 minutes later back in his corner.nickd wrote:Would have happened against anyone I reckon, I have read Sinclair was winning going away and went down from a single innocuous looking body shot. I am only going by what I have read as I have said throughout. Where did you see the fight?celticwarrior wrote:That's a very harsh thing to say about Sinclair without having even watched the fight. Downloaded it from a torrents site. Given that is was shown in ESPN I'd expect it will turn up (even if it's only the ko on TV over here in the next few weeks.)nickd wrote:I am only going by what I have read as I have said throughout. I don't know what reports you read, but this wasn't an easy fight , Sinclair was winning IMO, but whilst he hurt Ellis on several occasions , Ellis was giving it back all the time as well.
Sinclair put alot into his punches in the first 3 rounds, and seemed to tire alot in the forth. Sinclair still managed to hold his own in the 5th, maybe even shading the round.
The shot that finished him in the 6th just caught him below the ribs and left him agony, there was no way that Sinclair could have beat the count. So I don't think that he swallowed it in any way, if anything he can be proud that he gave it his best in this fight, unfortunatly he was 2nd best on the night .

The punch sort of scuffed sinclairs body, but no doubt about it he looked to be in a lot of pain.
Up until that point he was winning the fight with a very good fourth round. When he came out for the fifth, his punches had lost their snap and he looked visibily very tired - He was no longer on his toes and I very much doubt he would have lasted the 10 round course.
