Press Release

Former Team GB talent Solomon Dacres inks deal with Eddie Hearn

Former Team GB Heavyweight standout Solomon Dacres has signed a multi-fight promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and will make his highly anticipated professional debut in early 2021.

The 6ft 5ins 27-year-old, who is managed by Adam Morallee and Sam Jones of S-JAM Boxing, has been a regular sparring partner of Heavyweight World Champion Anthony Joshua, and shared sparring with Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois ahead of their November British title clash.

In an impressive stint in the amateurs, Birmingham's Dacres won a gold medal in the 2017 National Championships, before joining the Team GB squad in April 2017 and representing the British Lionhearts in the World Series of Boxing during a three-year spell in Sheffield.

Trained by Max McCracken alongside former WBA Super-Flyweight World Champion Kal Yafai and newly crowned European Super-Bantamweight Champion Gamal Yafai, ‘The Real Deal’ plans on using his explosive power and strength to make a mark in the thriving domestic Heavyweight scene.

“I turned over with my management team S-JAM Boxing and we were looking at getting a deal with the biggest promoter,” said Dacres. “Matchroom provide the biggest platform and the best networks to perform on and progress on. I’m really looking forward to working with the number one promoter out there.

“Being on the Team GB squad, I’ve sparred with Anthony Joshua for a number of years. It was regular sparring while he was in camp and I was training in Sheffield. It brought me on massively and improved me as a fighter. We’ve both been progressing over the years.

“That’s the level I’m looking to get to. I’ve seen the level that a Heavyweight World Champion performs at. With the same hard work and dedication that 'AJ' has displayed throughout his career, I’m confident I can reach those levels too.

“Sky Sports and DAZN viewers can expect to see a very explosive style from me. I’ve got fast hands for a Heavyweight and a lot of strength and power. I’d say that I’ve got a fan friendly style. I’m going to bring excitement.

“Next year I’m looking to settle myself into the professional ranks and get a few fights under my belt. I want to make a statement with some eye-catching performances on Sky Sports and DAZN. The ultimate goal is to become a Heavyweight World Champion.”

“I’m delighted to welcome another Heavyweight signing to the team,”
said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Solomon has all the grounding through his GB podium squad experience and WSB experience and is ready to attack the domestic scene. It has been many years since the Midlands have produced a Heavyweight star and with the hope of crowds returning later in 2021, I expect Solly to be a popular draw as he begins his professional campaign.”

Adam Moralee commented: “All the promoters we spoke to about Sol were aware of his quality from Team GB and he needed no introduction. Sol is now in the hands of the people that have guided the career of one of the best Heavyweights ever to come out of Team GB and we are very excited about the journey ahead with Matchroom.”

S-Jam really seem to be cosying up with Matchroom. Wonder how long it’ll be before Joe Joyce moves over.

They've kept themselves very unattached when it comes to Joe Joyce meaning they can make the most of various platforms. Joyce if I'm not wrong has boxed on Sky, ITV and BT. He may very well have also boxed on allegedly early on.

He's been associated with Hayemaker, Schaeffer and Queensbury. Very similar to how David Haye operated, never got himself too tied down altho as I say that he is now tied to Queensbury.

I watched an interview with Sam Jones and he seemed to imply that they had to extend their deal with FW to get the Dubois fight finalised although he said it was only extended for 4 months or so. I can see him having one fight on BT (or maybe none) and then move over. Matchroom have far more options for him.

Who?
- Usyk
- Povetkin (if he’s well enough to fight Whyte, beats him and wants to carry on)
- Whyte (if Povetkin doesn’t happen or if he beats him in the early part of the year
- Chisora (aslong as they don’t do it on PPV)
- Joseph Parker
- Hrgovic could be a good fight down the line
- Bakole would be a good fight although it’s low down the list
- Hughie Fury - no thanks but it’s an option all the same

Frazer will sign with Matchroom. He’s already close to the Matchroom guys (pretty sure he’s done security at their shows in the past) and he’s pretty tight with AJ too.

I’ve seen quite a few of his fights. He’s improved considerably over the last 3-4 years but will fall short of world level. Will be in some very good fights though.

Frazer is already with Matchroom ABC. I don’t think there’ll be a huge clamour for his signature.

Turning pro knowing he can't take Clarke's top spot and he knows Orie will take the number 2 spot in 12 months.

Solomon Dacres challenges Christopher Lovejoy – debutant wants first fight against American with 19-0 record

"I am a fighter, he is a talker," says Solomon Dacres who will make his professional debut in the heavyweight division on March 20, live on Sky Sports; Josh Warrington is live on Sky Sports on Saturday.

Solomon Dacres wants to emphatically begin his heavyweight journey by taking on Christopher Lovejoy, who boasts an impressive 19-0 record, in his first fight.

Dacres has turned pro with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom and will fight for the first time on the undercard to Lawrence Okolie's world title shot against Krzysztof Głowacki on March 20, live on Sky Sports.

Dacres, 27, is a former Team GB amateur standout who has experience of sparring Anthony Joshua, Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois, so is asking for a tough first assignment in his pro career.

"I've told my management team [S-JAM Boxing] I want to make an instant impact and I think fighting someone with a 19-0 record and 19 KOs will do just that," said Dacres.

"He came over last time to fight Dave Allen but the fight wasn't able to materialise so let's see if he'll meet me in the ring on March 20.

"I am a fighter, he is a talker.

"But let's see if Eddie can make this fight as I am sure everyone will be interested to see it."

Lovejoy expressed interest on social media, saying about Dacres' manager Sam Jones: "It sounds like he wants to end his guy's career before it starts."

American contender Lovejoy is undefeated in 19 fights but an element of mystery surrounds his record.

Every one of his fights has been won via stoppage, 17 out of 19 inside the first round.

He is from California but every one of his fights has been in Tijuana, Mexico.

Only one of his former opponents had previously won more fights than they had lost.

Lovejoy signed to fight Allen but the fight fell through in the days prior.

It will likely be the same dregs that Fisher and Adeleye fought in their first few fights.
