Earl European title fight off
Spanish holder pulls out of Crystal Palace showdown
Graham Earl's European lightweight title fight is off.

The Lutonian was due to meet title holder Juan Carlos Diaz Melero at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on Friday, July 14.

But the Spaniard has pulled out, claiming he is injured.

Earl and his management team are not happy with the situation and have tried to get Melero stripped of his title.

But the European Boxing Union are having none of it.

Says Earl: "We are stunned by what has happened and I am now considering a different route to the top.

"I may now look for a world title fight.

"The European organisers says the fight with Melero could be rescheduled for the end of September or the beginning of October, but I don't want to wait that long.

"I would like to apologise to the fans who booked tickets for Crystal Palace.

"They don't deserve to be messed about like this. They are terrific and so many of them booked tickets for the fight.

"I am sorry that this has happened, but it was out of my control.

"However, I am determined to get a major title and I am sure the fans will help me to achieve that aim."
