Yeah, COVID... But now, there are a lot more fights again... Last year, from March to August, there was literally nothing. Please, don't cut the line... You can't give up until you have at least won one of your cups... :TU:

I’m new but I solemnly affirm that I will compete all next season! Just started playing PTBF after boxing returned and will be super bummed if it’s gone.

Appreciate your work to make it possible either way, JCS!

Actually, this illustrates the boxing decline in the timeline well. People were getting less and less interested in the sport after the mid 2000s, after the likes of Tyson, Holyfied, Lewis, Jones retired / declined and went out of the first plane. The Klitschko / Mayweather era caused the decrease of an interest towards boxing. Mayweather-Pacquiao became the final nail in the coffin of boxing's popularity - people were waiting that bout for years, while the fight happened too late and was lackluster. Around that time, 2015-2016, McGregor became popular and everyone went to watch UFC. That's how the business of boxing killed the sport.

Right. And should Canelo-Golovkin III ever happen, it also comes 5 years too late... Because back then, Golovkin would have beaten the crap out of Canelo... IMHO.

CONGRATS to LeeSanders for winning PTBF 2020...

I'm happy getting a Top 10 position! You'd think I could win my own competition, but have never placed Top 3.. at least since my records started way back in 2005. Ring Anncr (Joe Antonacci) started the competition a little before that.. but got banned around that point... so there may have been a year or two lost due to poor recordkeeping. Not saying I won any of those.. just giving a little bit of history!

As previously talked about in the thread... interest has waned in the competition and also in boxing. Blame HBO dropping coverage... blame a ton of big names retiring... blame the evil Covid-19, but it is undeniable. Even as you look through the 2020 PTBF stats, we had roughly 40 picks per fight out of the gate, which quickly dropped to about 20.

All good things come to an end.. and this seems to be a good time to retire the competition. I'll never say never in bringing it back, but just looking at the schedule for the next couple months leaves me as disinterested as I've ever been in the sport.

Let's see where the sport is in a few months, but as of now.. it is goodbye to PTBF!

Thank you, JCS. I’ve enjoyed every year I’ve played - even when I’ve forgot the odd pick!

Well, maybe not the year’s I finished 2nd 🤣🤣

Seriously - loved this competition. Felt I was pretty good at it, too. Certainly by the stats.

Anyway, thanks again for running it. Hope to see it back. No competition like it, yours is the best of the best.

Happy New Year to all!

At least I've made top 10 this year. The first time in three years of competing. It was a fun thread, it's pity there will be no more of it next year.

And big thanks to JCS for the work to keep this going

I really thought this would be the year I'd finally make the podium and it went right to the wire, but fell just short again

I enjoyed playing. I think Covid had a lot to do with the 2020 level of interest. There was no boxing for awhile & people had other things to concern themselves with. I was hoping for another chance to finish in the top 3...

I certainly appreciate the work you put into the competition JCS. It supplied us a decade or so of entertainment & you did it selflessly, without ever asking for anything in return. I agree with your decision, the interest just doesn't seem to be there anymore. Good luck.

Picked up my 2nd Silver Medal on a year when I was paying less attention than ever since I started following the sport. Interesting and ironic.

Don't blame you at all for this decision. I certainly hope Boxing picks back up, but I like you find myself as disinterested in the sport now as I've ever been since I started following it nearly 20 years ago.

Thanks for all the years at the helm JCS. I've always enjoyed this game, and hope to enjoy it again someday if Boxing returns to it's previous Glory somehow.

Like you say. You can never say never.
