Who was this guy????

Post by rubberneck »

I’ve been trying to remember the name of a boxer from way back when. I only have a few details so maybe this will jog some memories.

He competed in the lower divisions, possibly feather/super feather.
He held a world title, possibly two divisions.
I think he was a Mexican, but could’ve been from another central/south American country.
I think he was around in the late 70s-mid 80s.

He had incredible footwork and movement. Watching him box was almost like watching Loma, in that he used pivots, feints, lay-backs like no other boxer around at that time. I’m hoping this info about his style will ring some bells, as his style was truly unique.

Any ideas????

I think it may have been Jose Napoles.

His head and body movement was incredible.

Early 70s, Welterweight, Cuban.... none of my description was helpful!!! 🤣😂🤣

Jose had an issue with alcohol all through his long career but it never affected him and his silky skills and the man could really whack, too. Brilliant in rematches.

A bit later and lighter than you suggested, but Orlando Canizales?

I was thinking Hector Camacho (before the Edwin Rosario fight) or Miguel "Happy" Lora.
