Re: The ambidextrous boxers (the elite level only) ?
Just through my observation but I'll accept correction on this.
I've noticed that Nonito Donaire was a converted Orthodox boxer, they're just disguising it so they can lure their opponents to go more to the left so they can unleash his signature KO punch his left hook. If you will watch his match against Sidorenko, even his jabs hurts the guy.
BTW, I don't know if they we classify this as ambidextrous. But to me, his left and right have the same power. It's just that the position his opponents got clipped . Of course if you we're moving towards the left, more likely you'll get hit easier by the left hook compared to right straight.

Marvin Hagler
Greg Page.

I heard somewhere that Andy Lee (a southpaw) was right handed, don't know how true it is though.
Probably a bit of a stretch calling him elite, I suppose.

The thread seems to have developed into a mix of ambidextrous or converted southpaws.
For the latter, throw Jim Watt and Michael Moorer in there.

Yep, there is ambidextrous and then there is cross dominant. People often confuse the latter for the former.chinarich wrote: ↑26 Jun 2019, 19:33 I doubt that there are many truly ambidextrous boxers as it’s fairly rare as a trait. To be technically ambidextrous they should write equally well with either hand as I can, not just switch stance. Very few sportspeople are truly ambidextrous, Ronnie O’Sullivan is an obvious example...
Ambidextrous can do most everything equally well with either hand.
Cross dominant uses the right for some tasks the left for others.
I write with my left so that makes me left handed.
No consistency after that.
Baseball: I bat right, throw left.
Throw a football equally well with either hand. Prefer the right for a football, when I throw left it's just to see what people say.
Basketball: save layups I shoot with the left.
I played tennis right handed.
Pool and darts lefty.
Bowl right handed.
Throw Frisbee right handed.
Most hand tools(wrenches, ratchets, saws, hammers etc) I use right handed.
I use my drill, nail gun and circular saw left handed.
Shoot rifles left handed but use the right for hand guns.
I have been asked many, many times if I am ambidextrous.
I say: " No, I'm just confused"

he used an awful lot of (fairly brief, admittedly) switches into southpaw with his footwork on the 'inside' (or as close to it as he got), the internet Tyson ranting fanboy favourite combination was the classic 'right hook to the body, right uppercut to the head' (preceding the inevitable KO of every heavyweight and mammal that ever lived) which was very often delivered from southpaw.

i think these have some examples of what I was talking about
Re: The ambidextrous boxers (the elite level only) ?
Hasn't Tyson fought entirely southpaw against Buster Mathis Jr?
Re: The ambidextrous boxers (the elite level only) ?
I think lot of boxers can fight in both stances, but only few of them have equal power in both hands. But i saw some video of Manny Pacquiao in orthodox stance with heavy bag and he looked weird
Re: The ambidextrous boxers (the elite level only) ?
DLH was also left handed but fought orthodox.
Naseem Hamed was a right handed southpaw
Edit: I originally though Mike Tyson was naturally left handed but I think that’s actually a myth

Golovkin does something more like what Hagler does, switching stances and, like, 'walking through' from one stance into the other (in Hagler's case he would sometimes throw 4 consecutive shots each from a changed stance) whilst closing distance
i think Wylie covers it:
he definitely covers how Hagler does it:
Tyson was more switching his angle/stance from a fairly neutral stance to begin with
