Current Canelo vs the S6 versions of Ward, Froch, Kessler, Andre Dirrell and A. Abraham?
The S6 had the best era of smw fighters. So how 168 lbs Canelo would deal inside the ring vs those strong fighters?
Re: Current Canelo vs the S6 versions of Ward, Froch, Kessler, Andre Dirrell and A. Abraham?
He would deal without much problems with Kessler, Dirrell and Abraham. He has just more class than those.
Actually, he obviously had more class than Froch, but Froch was simply very tough. Froch would be a bigger problem than the mentioned guys, Froch would make the bout more intense. Anyway, Canelo gotta outslick Froch, I also have few coubts of Canelo winning it.
Ward is the worst matchup for Canelo. It's pretty hard to predict it. All his major problems Canelo had against slicksters. Ward wasn't just that, he also could be dirty. Ward could be very inconvenient opponent for anybody, including Canelo. It would be close, but probably Canelo would get a decision in any case.

Ward would beat him I think , Ward was a fantastic smw who knew exactly what he needed to do to beat each opponent

Re: Current Canelo vs the S6 versions of Ward, Froch, Kessler, Andre Dirrell and A. Abraham?
I usually dislike those that feel compelled to perceive history through nostalgic rose-tinted glasses, whereby the accomplishments of those that competed during yesteryear are embellished to preposterously mythical proportions, but I really can't help thinking that the 2011 iterations of Ward, Froch and Kessler would have been too much for the physically smaller Canelo (regardless of the diminutive Mexican's performance against the giant Callum Smith).
If these bouts were staged on neutral territory, then I currently feel that Ward, Froch and Kessler would all beat Canelo by decision (by various margins).
That said, Canelo seems to be continuously improving, so there's every likelihood I may be compelled to revise my opinion in the near future, because he could ultimately prove himself to be better than Kessler and Froch at 168lbs.
On a pound-for-pound basis though, Canelo could be better than all three of those guys, but he's a lot smaller and Ward, Kessler and Froch were also supremely gifted in their own unique ways.

Froch was a tough and also a very deceiving type of fighter. He looked slow and raw but he was just damn strong, awkward and relentless.. Very underrated fighter.DrDuke wrote: ↑06 Jan 2021, 08:14 He would deal without much problems with Kessler, Dirrell and Abraham. He has just more class than those.

I doubt that Canelo ' would deal without much problems' with Kessler and Dirrell. Kessler beat Froch in a war (1st fight) and Dirrell had a close fight with Froch. Both were top-strong smw fighters. I think Canelo would defeat Abraham and Taylor in close fights.

Indeed, he was one of the best fighters I've ever seen. He had the full package and he was a very intelligent person.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑06 Jan 2021, 08:29 Ward would beat him I think , Ward was a fantastic smw who knew exactly what he needed to do to beat each opponent

Imo even a pre-Froch fight Bute would beat the version of Callum that Canelo beat. I think this smw era is a weak era.

Ward would beat him via UD
Froch would be a really tough, and great action fight where I think Canelo would either lose close or win close.
I think Canelo would beat Kessler in another competitive fight.
Andre Dirrell would find a way to get fouled, and then pretend he couldn't move like the biggest p*ssy that it ever made it to a high level in Boxing which is what he is.
Arthur Abraham would lose a hard fought battle to Canelo. Via UD.

Think he beats everyone but Ward, and that’s a very close fight.

I don't think Callum is the best guy in the division. If he gets his head on straight, the most talented guy among them is David Benavidez.apollo creed wrote: ↑06 Jan 2021, 12:12 Imo even a pre-Froch fight Bute would beat the version of Callum that Canelo beat. I think this smw era is a weak era.

I wouldn't say, that it's clear, who is really the best at the SMW today, except Canelo. I'd pick Plant right now.gilgamesh wrote: ↑06 Jan 2021, 12:34I don't think Callum is the best guy in the division. It's definitely not clear, but Benavidez has shown the most natural ability of all the guys I've seen. If he can keep from missing weight or failing drug tests he should do some big things.DrDuke wrote: ↑06 Jan 2021, 12:48I wouldn't say, that it's clear, who is really the best at the SMW today, except Canelo. Ward would beat him, 99 %.
Froch would beat him, 80%
Canelo would beat the rest, 99%...............

The thing with Benavidez and Plant is they should fight each other but unfortunately ain't gonna happen since Plant has that IBF title to get Canelo.
I'd like to see Benavidez fighting Charlo @ 168 lbs to see how good is Benavidez. This smw era is weak and almost every top fighter is staying safe just waiting to get Canelo.

I'd like Benavidez vs Jermall Charlo too. I think Benavidez would kick his ass.apollo creed wrote: ↑06 Jan 2021, 14:45 The thing with Benavidez and Plant is they should fight each other but unfortunately ain't gonna happen since Plant has that IBF title to get Canelo.

This fight could be done easy but the problem is that Benavidez doesn't have that green strap anymore which could've made Charlo interested. Canelo too.gilgamesh wrote: ↑06 Jan 2021, 14:51I'd like Benavidez vs Jermall Charlo too. I think without a belt Benavidez would have to wait some time for a good opponent, only if wbc officially makes him Canelo's No 1 mandatory challenger this year but we know that Canelo has a record of dropping his title when GGG's was his mandatory. Benavidez just needs to stay in good shape and busy.
Re: Current Canelo vs the S6 versions of Ward, Froch, Kessler, Andre Dirrell and A. Abraham?
Oh definitely Canelo against all of them, it's not like many opponents will get a decision over him is it now.
Re: Current Canelo vs the S6 versions of Ward, Froch, Kessler, Andre Dirrell and A. Abraham?
Well if it was in England then yes Carl may have a good chance as he was looked after too wasn't he
The Andre Dirrell fight swung his way when it looked like he lost and who can forget the referee who stopped George Groves so conveniently in their first fight while ahead on all three judges scorecards.
