We need some fanfare; the 'HW champion of the world' is actually going to have a fight.🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

I get the feeling that whatever the result, the WBA will still regard Charr as the champion.

I think the only person who can take that belt away from him is Oquendo.

I can see Whyte or Joyce/Dubois squashing the winner before the end of the year.
Yea i think its gotta be joyce or dubs. get rid of that gold belt for one that is slightttly less useless. But then they can give them a couple of "world title" defenses before fighting for a real belt.

Lets see if Don King can get this called as a final eliminator for the mandatory. Though I don't think he will, and instead I expect Wilder to queue jump and face off with the winner.

Bryan holding two belts could be sold as a legit opponent.

I know the men in white coats are coming to take me away, but I'm actually looking forward to this fight probably because I don't know who's going to win. Ignore their inactivity and they would both be around the top twenty (just inside or just outside).

I've always considered Charr and Hammer to be on a very similar level and an intriguing potential match, while Bryan and Miller were stable-mates IIRC and regarded as being equally matched, before Miller started forging ahead and Bryan sat on his arse.

Give me a fight between two equally matched also rans over a match between a contender and a journeyman any day of the week.

Didn’t know he even had that much.

Second highest and only bid was $1,200,000 from Global Sports Management..

As part of King’s bid. He has requested the split be changed from 75-25 to 55-45, so Bryan, who he promotes, can make a bigger payday.
2 mln?! If this fight was happening in my back garden I’d draw the curtains...

holding 2 belts? so he will keep the "interim world championship" after he wins the "world championships"... dont think so. but i agree, someone is going to be keen to buy the WBA regular, and wilder could be the man to do it. Then when they put on shows they are world title bouts and the word regular never gets mentioned.... like canelo vs rocky feilding, i think most of the world (and even boxing fans) were unaware that that was for a reg belt. canelo just went fu.k it im 168 world champ...

Actually that's a very good point. Though actually I had always assumed that the interim-champ was for the title of Super Champion, not Regular Champion. So I figured that whoever wins, would want to maintain the status of interim-champ to the Super Champion, but would want to hold onto the hardware of the actual "World Champion" belt of the regular title as it has more public marketability (like how Canelo's promoters used it as you say).
Damn it's confusing. Is there any chance that after this, one of the belts gets retired....please WBA....

WBA Orders Don King To Deliver Contracts For Heavyweight Bout

The time has come for Manuel Charr and Trevor Bryan to step either into the ring or away from their title reigns.

A final order has been issued by the World Boxing Association (WBA), whom absurdly recognizes both heavyweights as secondary titlists and has called for the pair to honor their outstanding agreement. Hall of Fame promoter Don King is required to submit signed contracts to the sanctioning body that the bout will take place no later than January 29th, 2021.

“The bidding for this mandatory title fight took place [on] March 2nd in Panama City,” Carlos Chávez, chairman of the WBA Championship Committee noted to both camps via official letter, a copy of which has been obtained by BS.com. “[A]ccording to the organization’s rules…the Purse Bid shall have all bout contracts properly signed and delivered to the Championships Committee Chairman no later than twenty (20) days from the date on which the winning bid is awarded.

“However, in this case, the pause in boxing due to the pandemic prevented such procedure from being carried out normally, so it was put on hold. Now that most countries have opened their borders and boxing is taking place around the world in a considerable volume, it is a good time to resume the process.”

King submitted a whopping bid of $2,000,000 to secure the rights to the fight which at the time he claimed to have intended to stage on May 30. There appeared little hope of the fight seeing the light of day given King’s inability to deliver fights over the last decade, less so during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Boxing has since resumed, though with this fight no closer to making its way to a schedule than was the case mine months ago. In fact, Bryan (20-0, 14KOs) saw his name linked to a voluntary title defense versus Christopher Lovejoy, an unbeaten but unheralded challenger whose signed title shot disallowed him to take part in a planned clash with England’s Dave Allen earlier this month.

Bryan won his portion of the WBA heavyweight title with a 4th round knockout of BJ Flores in August 2018. The 31-year old from Schenectady, New York has yet to make a single defense of his interim title.

The same applies to Charr (31-4, 17KOs), a 34-year old Sryian heavyweight now based out of Germany who has not fought since outpointing Alexander Ustinov in November 2017. The win netted him the WBA “World” heavyweight title, a secondary version to the “Super” title held by England’s Anthony Joshua (23-1, 21KOs) who also owns the WBA and IBF belts.

Charr since signed with Erol Ceylan’s EC Boxing company, who at one point claimed to be negotiating a fight with former unified heavyweight titlist Andy Ruiz. In order for such a bout to take place, he would have to either first go through with this fight or hope that Bryan chooses to go in a different direction.

For now, the pair of long inactive heavyweights are bound to each other and officially on the clock.

“Should any or both fighters (Charr – Bryan) fail to sign the contract, he or they will lose their position as champion or/and mandatory challenger,” notes Chávez. “The communication, which was sent to all parties via email, also highlights that the bout shall be conducted under the rules of the WBA, with the respective appointment of officials.

“It also states that that the laboratories to be used for anti-doping tests should be certified by VADA/WADA in order to be accepted. The WBA is waiting for a response from Don King Promotions and wishes that the fight can be carried out as arranged in the bidding.”

The winner of the proposed consolidation clash theoretically will become the mandatory challenger to Joshua, whom next faces IBF number-one contender Kubrat Pulev (28-1, 14KOs) on December 12 in London.

And then Fat Fres has said he's legally still due his WBA mandatory. Will look to get into the title picture in 2021.

Honestly, Oquendo, Bryan and Charr.. it feels like a different universe.. Completely irrelivent to the current title picture..

Total inactivity..

Hopefully this is true and they're all just stripped.

Where did Don King even get $2m from?

Both fighters will be keen to fight, unless they are juiced up without time to cycle off befor testing... but donny will drag his feet, no way this is profitable for 2 million dollars. hope they are both stripped and WBA reg never returns to heavyweight.

They've both been hoping for a payday against AJ. We just need then to unify and the problems which started over two years ago will nearly be solved. It seems that Fres has dropped out of the picture. So, now we would need the winner of this to face Helenius/Kownacki winner to clear the ridiculous Gold belt.

That would be too simple though right?

Yeh, but then they'll start mandating for the vacant regular belt eventually..

These anectodes with Don King, Charr, Bryan, Oquendo and Lovejoy around the corrupt jesters WBA are getting more and more annoying. Don King has been parasiting on the WBA for quite a while in the 2000s with the hugger Ruiz. Now the old criminal fart is becoming less relevant, but still he tries something, as he pushes his "fighters" through the ranks of the corrupt sanctioning body. Today it looks especially ridiculous.

Then it was with Valuev. King always pulls a rabbit out of his hat. I remember when the klitschkos were trying to force Haye to sign contracts stipulating multiple rematches if Haye should win against either brother. Neither had the WBA strap as King had Valuev controlling that. I may be mistaken but if I remember correctly the Klitschkos always refrained from doing business with Don King. So while the Klitschkos were trying to get Haye to fight Wlad with slave contracts King snuck in the back door & offered Valuev up to Haye (Valuev was near retirement due to health issues & the Haye fight was his last) for the WBA belt which Haye won but King got 3 options on Haye which he cashed in on the Harrison, Ruiz & Klitschko fights. King made sure Haye made 2 title defences before the Klitschko fight cash out. King is near extinct but as long as he is alive he will still stir up sh*t. How many big fights did he get Eric Molina in the last 5 years? He still has Bryan, Stiverne, Lovejoy & Molina but other than Bryan the rest are done. I also remember when Stiverne won the vacant WBC title KIng was going to have Stiverne's first defence against Mark De Mori (who was with King at the time) but they fought Wilder instead to get the mandatory out of the way. They underestimated Wilder even after his brutal KOs of Liahkovich & Scott. The rest is history...
