Manager: Besputin is Back Jan. 30 on Beterbiev Card
Besputin (13-0, 9 KOs), 29, of Russia, he has not boxed since Nov. 30, 2019 in Monte Carlo, where he won a unanimous decision – 116-112 on all three scorecards – against Radzhab Butaev to claim the WBA’s vacant secondary welterweight world title.
However, Besputin tested positive for the banned substance Ligandrol in his A and B samples, was stripped of the belt and the decision was overturned to a no contest. He was also suspended for six months by the WBA.
Klimas said Besputin is scheduled to make his ring return on Jan. 30 in Moscow on the undercard of the Top Rank Boxing on ESPN+ card headlined by unified light heavyweight world champion Artur Beterbiev’s defense against Adam Deines
“Besputin is going to be in the co-main event on the Beterbiev card,” Klimas said. “He’s been in Russia, he is training and he is excited to fight again.”

Beterbiev Tests Positive For COVID, Title Defense Versus Deines Postponed
Artur Beterbiev has endured another disruption in attempting to defend his World light heavyweight championship.
The unbeaten knockout artist and lineal 175-pound king from Montreal by way of Khasavyurt, Russia has tested positive for COVID-19, which has forced a second postponement in his planned title defense versus Adam Deines (19-1-1, 10 KOs). Their bout was due to take place January 30, live on an ESPN platform from VTB Arena in Moscow.
“Unfortunately, I got coronavirus,” Beterbiev announced through his verified social media accounts on Monday. “Therefore, my fight with Adam Deines scheduled for January 30 is postponed for a later date.”
A confirming press release from promoter Top Rank noted that plans to reschedule the bout remain a topic of conversation as this goes to publish.
The unfortunate development is yet the latest hurdle standing in the way of Betetbiev (15-0, 15 KOs) making his way back to the ring. The 2008 Olympian and reigning light heavyweight king has not fought since unseating previously unbeaten champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk via 10th round knockout last October in Philadelphia. Beterbiev left the fight with the WBC and IBF titles in tow and recognition as the true light heavyweight champion.
A mandatory title defense was ordered by the IBF versus top-rated Meng Fanglong, with the fight going to purse bid and promotional rights won by Rejoy Group. Initial plans called for the bout to take place in China, only for Rejoy Group to default on the bid, which landed the fight back in the hands of Top Rank who set aside a March 28 date in Quebec City for the event.
Those plans were scuttled by the initial wave of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, with the bout relocated to September 25 in Moscow. Fanlong’s inability to accept the fight due to travel restrictions instead paved the way for Deines to step in and accept the challenge.
Deines dropped a 12-round decision to Fanlong in their title eliminator last June but has won two straight since then in moving up the IBF rankings. With his entering the picture came a new fight and date, with the revised mandatory title defense scheduled for October 23 in Moscow. Those plans were scrapped after Beterbiev suffered a rib injury during training camp, postponing the fight to next January following tried and failed efforts to insert the fight in December.
Beterbiev claimed the IBF belt in a 12th round stoppage win over Enrico Koelling in November 2017. Injuries and issues with past promoters have slowed his career progress to a crawl, making just three successful defenses in more than three years.
Hopes of a fresh start in 2021 are, for the moment, on hold.
“I will try to recover as soon as possible and return to training,” stated Beterbiev. “I hope for your understanding and support.”

Artur Beterbiev Back in Training After Fighting Off COVID-19
Russian boxer Artur Beterbiev, who tested positive for COVID-19 at the end of 2020, announced that he was returning to training.
Beterbiev, the WBC and IBF light heavyweight champion of the world, said he had contracted the coronavirus on December 29.
Due to the illness, the fight between Beterbiev and the German boxer Adam Deines, which was scheduled for January 30 and was going to be held at the VTB Arena in Moscow, was postponed to a later date.
"Back to training," the dangerous puncher told overseas media.
Initially, the fight between Beterbiev and Deines could have taken place in October, but the Russian fighter withdrew with an injured. Then their battle was postponed to December 11 in Moscow, but also did not take place due to a scheduling conflict with television networks.
35-year-old Beterbiev has a record of 15 wins (15 by knockout) and not a single defeat. The 29-year-old Deines has 19 wins (10 by knockout), one defeat and one draw.
Prior to these delays, Beterbiev had to make a mandatory defense against Meng Fanlong of China. That fight was completely called off due to traveling restrictions pertaining to the coronavirus pandemic.
Beterbiev has been away from the ring since October of 2019, when he picked up the biggest win of his career with a stoppage of Ukraine's Oleksandr Gvozdyk to unify the WBC and IBF titles.
He's hoping to get very busy in the new year, as the goal remains the same - to unification of the entire weight class.

I'm sure Deines is a tough guy, but he's way out of his depth here. If he sees round 5 I'll be both surprised and impressed. Prediction : Beterbiev via 3rd round TKO. The ref will wave the count off.

Re: Artur Beterbiev vs. Adam Deines - March 20, 2021
Artur Beterbiev vs Adam Deines rescheduled for March 20, likely in Moscow
Just days after ordering Gilberto Ramirez vs. Marcus Browne for the interim light heavyweight title, the WBC has revealed that now-healthy champion Artur Beterbiev’s voluntary defense against Adam Deines is back on for March 20th, “most likely” in Moscow, Russia.
This marks the fight’s fifth planned date; after jumping from September 25th to October 9th, the parties involved finally settled on October 23rd, only for Beterbiev (15-0, 15 KO) to suffer a broken rib. Next came January 30th, which collapsed when Beterbiev tested positive for COVID.
This was a perfect opportunity to scrap the fight entirely; Deines (19-1-1, 10 KO) is an unworthy challenger brought in due to Top Rank’s insistence on staging the fight in Russia, which prevented IBF mandatory Meng Fanlong from facing Beterbiev due to visa issues. There was absolutely no reason not to discard Deines and reschedule Beterbiev-Meng in North America, especially since Russia’s COVID situation recently forced Sergey Kovalev vs Bektemir Melikuziev to move to California. Fighting Meng would completely clear the path for a unification match with the winner of Joe Smith Jr. vs. Maxim Vlasov on February 13th, and considering how insistent the IBF is about champions facing mandatories, that’s no small accomplishment.
Instead, Top Rank has wed itself to a pointless defense, further wasting what little remains of Beterbiev’s prime. Good work, team.

Press Release
The wait is over. WBC/IBF light heavyweight world champion Artur Beterbiev (15-0, 15 KOs) will fight top contender Adam Deines in a special Russian homecoming Saturday, March 20 at Megasport Arena in Moscow.
Beterbiev represented Russia at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and moved to Montreal to begin his pro career in 2013. Nearly eight years after turning pro, he will fight in Russia for the first time, and for the first time since unifying world titles in October 2019 with a scintillating 10th-round knockout over Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Patriot Promotions, Beterbiev-Deines will air live on an ESPN platform, with additional details to follow.
“At long last, Artur Beterbiev will defend his world titles as he looks to kick off his 2021 campaign in devastating fashion,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “We have big plans for Artur, but he must first take care of business in Moscow.”
Beterbiev said, "I am excited to finally have a date for the fight. Now that COVID-19 and the injury are behind me, I am able to prepare well and put on a great show for boxing fans."
Beterbiev and Deines (19-1-1, 10 KOs), who is ranked No. 6 by the IBF, have been scheduled to fight twice before. A proposed Oct. 23 date was scuttled after Beterbiev suffered a rib injury in training, and the Jan. 30 makeup date was postponed after Beterbiev tested positive for COVID-19. Deines, who turns 30 on Feb. 8, has won a pair of bouts via stoppage since the lone loss of his career, a June 2019 unanimous decision to Meng Fanlong in Macau, China.

Alexander Besputin To End Layoff on Beterbiev vs. Deines Card
Welterweight contender Alexander Besputin has been inactive since November 2019.
The unbeaten boxer is now scheduled to hold his next bout on March 20 at the Megasport Arena in Moscow, a spokesman for the event organizers told Tass.
"Alexander is set to fight in Moscow on March 20," the spokesman said without specifying the name of the opponent.
The main event will feature Russia’s WBC, IBF light heavyweight world champion Artur Beterbiev in a title defense against German contender Adam Deines.
ESPN+ will stream the fights in the United States.
Besputin, 29-year-old, has an unblemished record of 13 wins, including nine by knockout.
As a talented amateur, Besputin was the 2012 Russian champion, the 2013 European champion and the silver medalist of the 2015 European Games.
He won the WBA's "regular" welterweight title on November 30, 2019 in Monaco, defeating his compatriot Radzhab Butaev with a twelve round unanimous decision.
After the fight in Monaco, doping inspectors collected samples from both boxers.
The result of Besputin's A-sample was revealed in January 2020 - indicating the presence of a banned performance enhancing drug, Ligandrol, in his body.
Besputin disputed the report and made a request to have his B-sample tested - and the outcome of the review came back in June of 2020, also showing a positive result for the same banned substance.
After the B-sample came back positive, the WBA stripped Besputin of his title and handed him a six-month suspension which began on July 4, 2020.
Besputin is promoted in the United States by Top Rank and his career is guided by veteran manager Egis Klimas.
With the exception of the fight in Monaco, all of his bouts have been held in the United States.

Re: Artur Beterbiev vs. Adam Deines - March 20, 2021
Press Release | Undercard Information
WBC/IBF light heavyweight world champion Artur Beterbiev will make a title defense against top contender Adam Deines — Saturday, March 20 at Megasport Arena in Moscow — will be televised live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes (and simulcast on ESPN+) at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT.
In the televised co-feature, welterweight contender Alexander Besputin returns to action in a 10-rounder against Argentine veteran Maximiliano Ricardo Veron.
Undercard fights will stream live and exclusively on ESPN+ at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT.
Beterbiev (15-0, 15 KOs), a two-time Russian Olympian, returns to home soil for the first time as a professional. He unified world titles in October 2019 with a 10th-round TKO over Oleksandr Gvozdyk, solidifying his position as the sport’s top light heavyweight. Deines (19-1-1, 10 KOs) has won a pair of bouts since dropping a decision to Meng Fanlong and enters as the underdog looking to spoil Beterbiev’s perfect record and status as the only current world champion with a 100 percent knockout rate.
Besputin (13-0, 9 KOs) has not fought since November 2019, when he bested Radzhab Butaev by unanimous decision to win a version of the welterweight world title. The result was changed to a no-contest after Besputin tested positive for a banned substance. Veron (12-3-1, 4 KOs) is coming off a career-best performance in November 2019, a unanimous decision over Diego Ramirez (21-2 at the time) to win the IBF Latino welterweight belt.
The following bouts are scheduled for the ESPN+-exclusive portion of the broadcast:
Former Russian amateur standout Khariton Agrba (4-0, 1 KO), a 2019 European Games silver medalist, will fight Venezuelan veteran Jesus Cuadro (19-7, 15 KOs) in a 10-rounder for WBA Continental super lightweight strap. The 25-year-old Agrba is considered one of Russia’s top young talents, as he won more than 300 bouts in the unpaid ranks before turning pro in December 2019.
Azizbek Abdugofurov (13-0, 5 KOs) will defend his WBC Silver super middleweight belt in a 12-rounder against fellow unbeaten Pavel Silyagin (6-0 4 KOs). Abdugofurov, from Uzbekistan, is ranked fourth by the WBC at super middleweight.

What do you guys think, who is bigger puncher, Beterbiev or Joe Smith ? IMO speaking of one punch KO, Smith have bigger pop, while Beterbiev has some cumulative punching power. Both has bomb in both hands, both are physically strong, that is fight i wanna see

Re: Artur Beterbiev vs. Adam Deines - March 20, 2021
Deines record is fairly padded to say the least, lost to Meng pretty convincing although i seen he had him down, Beterbiev should take him apart although Beterbiev can look a bit ordinary at times when he's not punching, if Deines lets his hands go then it might be competitive until Beterbiev gets him out of there
Re: Artur Beterbiev vs. Adam Deines - March 20, 2021
Beterbiev is 36, he needs a defining bout ASAP.

True, good fight and good win. I just feel like if he starts slipping because of age before a Bivol type fight, it will be a shame. The guy is a monster and could really add to his resume over the next year with the right bouts.

This is a mismatch.
I'm disappointed they couldn't find a better, more meaningful opponent for Beterbiev. He's not getting any younger and has already wasted too much time.
