Austin Trout vs. Juan Garcia - February 5, 2021

Austin Trout To Return on February 6 in Mexico, vs. Juan Garcia

Austin "No Doubt" Trout (32-5-1) has advised BS.com that he will return to the ring on February 6th against Juan "Tortuga" Garcia (21-7-2). The fight will headline a card that will take place in Chihuahua, Mexico.

The 35-year-old Las Cruces, New Mexico native was in action once last year when he stopped Rosbel Montoya in 2 rounds in February. The fight was fought at a catchweight of 151 pounds as the career 154 pounder looked to move down to the welterweight division. In his previous fight he battled former world title challenger Terrell Gashua to a draw in 2019.

Like many in the sport, the former world champion hoped to be more active last year but the COVID-19 pandemic brought the sports world to a halt for multiple months.

He said that his plan now is to stay active in smaller fights until an opportunity for a big fight arises.

"I am looking to stay busy south of the border for now until I can get some real fights," Trout told Boxing Scene.

Trout captured the WBA super welterweight title in 2011 when he defeated Rigoberto Alvarez by unanimous decision in Guadalajara, Mexico. He would defend it successfully 4 times before losing a unanimous decision to Rigoberto's brother Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in San Antonio in 2013 in front of more than 40,000 fans at the Alamodome.

He has faced several top fighters who have campaigned in the super welterweight division in recent years. He scored a big upset over future Hall of Fame member Miguel Cotto in 2012. He has also entered the ring against champions and former champions Jermall Charlo, Jermell Charlo, Erislandy Lara and Jarrett Hurd.

Austin Trout Returns, Dominates Juan Garcia Over Ten in Mexico

Polideportivo Sur in Chihuahua, Mexico - Former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin “No Doubt” Trout (33-5-1, 18 KOs) dominated Juan Garcia (21-7-2, 12 KOs) over ten rounds to secure a unanimous decision win.

Trout, 35-years-old, had too much experience for Garcia, who didn't have the experience or the tools to upset the veteran. In the tenth and final round, Trout was doing a job on Garcia and likely could have pulled off a stoppage if there were two more rounds.

All three of the official judges saw it 99-91 on the cards.

It was Trout's fourth victory in Mexico. The last time Trout fought in Mexico was in 2011, with back to back bouts in the country - including a victory over Canelo Alvarez's older brother, Rigoberto Alvarez.

Trout is hoping to get more active in his career. Saturday's return was the first fight for Trout in a year. He saw action in February of last year, when he stopped Rosbel Montoya in two rounds.

In 2019, he also had one bout for the entire year and fought to a ten round split draw with Olympian Terrell Gausha. The contest was very close, with neither boxer running away with a win.

One bout prior, Trout lost a twelve round decision in a world title fight with junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo.

Trout's other defeats came at the hands of Jermall Charlo, Jarrett Hurd, Erislandy Lara and Canelo Alvarez. The only boxer to stop him inside the distance was Hurd.
