Best lead hands in boxing?
I was going to say left but let’s make it inclusive. I’m all about dat PC liberal sheet.
So who’s got the best lead hand work in boxing?
I’m going to throw Estrada out there straight the fck away. He writes poems with his left glove. Great jab, and his uppercut and hook both land frequently and both have hurt opponents repeatedly. Plus he’s good to the body too. It’s an educated left hand. He varies the rhythm on his jab and feints, doubles and triples and hooks/uppercuts/body shots with the left hand off of them. My boy Estrada has a lead hand to go with anyone in boxing, because he uses every punch both well and very frequently.
Who are your calls?

Canelo being as technically complete as he is is a shoe-in somewhere on any list

Re: Best lead hands in boxing?
Crawford is very effective indeed with the lead hand. Both ways. I sometimes think he lacks a little compactness but partly that’s his long arms. And those wide sweeping hooks fkin land. And they land a lot, and they land from outside the eyeline and hurt people too. Aesthetics be damned he’s right near the top. I’d have to go back and watch some fights but my memory tells me his left hand from orthodox is maybe a bit more compact with the hooks than with the right as a lead. Jab as good either way. More hurtful lead hand(s) than my boy Estrada it must be said.

Re: Best lead hands in boxing?
Or shall we just have another 7 page argument with EO whether size matters? SMH
Re: Best lead hands in boxing?
Both Charlo’s have nasty jabs, especially Mall.
GGG had one of the best for years. Still pretty solid.
Canelo does incredible things with his left hook. Same goes for Ryan Garcia. It’s a Reynosa thing.
Joe Joyce sure showed us a good jab against DuBois.
Teofimo has a fast, effective jab.
Josh Taylor has a good left hook and good jab.
Kazuto Ioka sets up his left counter very well.

Appreciate he’s not everyone’s favourite fighter right now but Lomachenko was able to tee off 3 or 4 lead hand uppercuts in a row against Rigo, if memory serves me. I thought that was impressive.

fury can fiddle his way to wins with his jab and feints over pretty much anyone, granted its not fun or anything and his footwork is a large part of it too

Re: Best lead hands in boxing?
We don't see him use it quite as much as we should, but Naoya Inoue... Heck he dominated Yuki Sano with his jabs and hooks
Kenshiro has a very under rated jab
Ioka obviously needs a mention, his jab and hook are exquisite tools

Re: Best lead hands in boxing?
Mario Barrios has a nice left hook. Very fast, and he can throw it from long and close range.
On the inside he throws a nasty left uppercut.
Edit: if you back and watch the Karl fight, you’ll see him double up with the left hand. Uppercut-hook. Very hard to do.

Might ruffle feathers but i thought joyces jab was slightly above average and that was more about DD not knowing what to do (which made joyces jab look great)

Re: Best lead hands in boxing?
Yeah it was definitely JJ stepping off to DD’s left and jabbing from outside his left shoulder that DD couldn’t handle. JJ’s lead hand is insistent and thudding-strong but slow and without much (or any) variety of EG feints, rhythm changes etc.Jeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑03 Feb 2021, 14:36 Might ruffle feathers but i thought joyces jab was slightly above average and that was more about DD not knowing what to do (which made joyces jab look great)

Re: Best lead hands in boxing?
Ggg still has a great jab and hook to the body
Re: Best lead hands in boxing?
Danny Roman put on a display of how to use the left hand last night. Jab-Left Uppercut combo. Countering with the left uppercut. It was beautiful.
Re: Best lead hands in boxing?
I’m not a Haney fan, but Haney’s left hand is spectacular. Incredible, fast jab, and he swings a good hook when he’s in the pocket. He also has a nasty quick left uppercut he throws right before stepping out.
Re: Best lead hands in boxing?
We saw some brilliant lead hands last night, beyond Haney.
G. A. Russell’s lead right hand is lethal in jab, hook and uppercut forms. He is a force to be reckoned with, as is Matias.
Matias has a beautiful, effortless, varied right jab, that leads into first rate combos including hooks, body shots and uppercuts it an impressively fluid attack.
Maybe the most impressive pure boxer last night was Azinga Fuzile. His lead right hand is lightning quick, and packs sneaky pop in short distance.

That right hook is advanced stuff man. Seriously. 140 lb Russell brother is a bad man.

Re: Best lead hands in boxing?
I’m rewatching Matias v Jukembayev right now. Jukembayev, a southpaw, led with both right hooks and uppercuts in round 1, successfully. From then on he fell in love with his straight left, to his demise.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑30 May 2021, 15:27How often to people lead with uppercuts... or hooks for that matter?![]()

Re: Best lead hands in boxing?
Leading with the hook not too rare, the uppercut more so because it takes a lot more balance and athleticism to pull that off without getting countered.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑30 May 2021, 15:27How often to people lead with uppercuts... or hooks for that matter?![]()
Re: Best lead hands in boxing?
Rewatching Donaire v Oubaali. First round Donaire led with a left hook to head and body both.
Re: Best lead hands in boxing?
Donaire just a master last night. He showed his elite level/ring IQ.
