Yeah, you can't be forced to fight if you're not planning on fighting again.

Obviously. Not sure why Dan and others don't realise this.

Imagine the judge or arbitrator who says "if you refuse to fight again because of retirement, you will have to pay Mr X €y". It's nonsensical.

No because a fighter would retire and comeback every time they wanted out of a contract
Nonsense. If a fighter retires due to ill health, accumulation of injuries, or age, nobody in their right mind would take him to court. If he comes back at a later date, it would be circumstance dependent. If it's 10 years down the line there's little chance of court action, if it's six months, then obviously there is.
Wondering out loud here, maybe you could void a contractual stipulation like this if you retired for just long enough for the other guy to go have another fight and move on with his career ?

That would be risky and if I were judge, jury, and executioner I'd be sharpening my guillotine (or more likely pencil). I'd still sue in that instance.

I don't gamble. If I did, I would bet as much as I could on Whyte.

Is insider betting illegal btw? I.e. if you know something about one of the fighters that maybe isn't out in the public domain, are you allowed to take advantage of that? Not info from a fighter's team but maybe somebody from his neighbourhood?

He looked really good last time until he got sparked. Hopefully he’s not gunshy now. Agree with people saying he KO’s Povetkin comfortably now given Povetkin’s recent health problems.

I love the Cheeseman fight on the undercard and don’t mind the Wardley fight either but it needs another big one - perhaps a step up for Buatsi on there.

Whyte: I Want To Smash Povetkin's Face In, He Pretends To Be Nice Guy - He Will Pay!

Dillian Whyte wants revenge when he faces Alexander Povetkin in a rematch on March 6th, with the location yet to be finalized.

They collided back in August at Matchroom's Fight Camp in Brentwood, with Povetkin scoring a sensational fifth round knockout of Whyte to capture the WBC's interim-heavyweight title.

Povetkin had been dropped twice in the fourth, but the Russian boxer came out in the following round and landed a vicious uppercut that sent Whyte down and out - forcing the contest to get waved off immediately.

The rematch was initially booked for a date in November - and then January - with both dates being postponed as Povtekin needed time to recover from COVID-19.

Whyte openly questioned the medical diagnosis, stating in interviews that his upcoming opponent was using COVID as an excuse to buy himself additional time to get physically ready for the rematch.

Povetkin shot back, stating that his handlers have all of the medical records to back up his COVID diagnosis.

He strongly felt if anyone was benefiting from the delay - it was Whyte - because he suffered a bad knockout.

Povetkin's recent statements have enraged Whyte, who wants to pay him back in the ring.

In fact, Whyte believes Povetkin was able to manipulate him by presenting a fake "nice guy" persona - which the British boxer claims had a direct impact on his aggressive nature in the ring.

"I just want to get in there and smash his face in, to be honest," Whyte told Sky Sports. "Just get in there, have a fight, let's go toe to toe and let's have it.

"I'm just glad that there is nowhere for him to try and hide behind and try and run. He wasted time, letting me get ready for two fights, and then cancelled them at the last minute. I'm glad. He pretends to be this nice, humble guy, but he is talking sh-t. Of course I'm going to be annoyed. I'm not going to be sat there and laughing.

"I had a great camp. I'm going to be pissed off and annoyed. Povetkin was getting beat up, he got damaged in the fight, and I don't need no time to recover. I was ready to go. How is the delay going to benefit me? I've always got a spiteful, nasty streak, but if someone is being respectful it's difficult to be a certain way. Now he's showing his true colors and he will pay for it. I am going to hurt him.

"It's hard to be super aggressive, if someone is being cool, but that was part of his game-plan. Now I know that's part of his game-plan."

Povetkin-Whyte Rematch Could Go To Gibraltar, Monaco or Middle East

Gibraltar, Monaco and the Middle East are all possible venues for the Alexander Povetkin vs. Dillian Whyte rematch after Whyte asked Hearn to find a venue where fans could attend.

Povetkin knocked out Whyte in their first meeting at Fight Camp in the garden of Matchroom’s Essex headquarters last August in front of no paying spectators.

The rematch, which was delayed from November after Povetkin tested positive for Covid-19, has now been scheduled for March 6, with the interim WBC heavyweight title on the line.

It was one of five shows Hearn announced on Friday. While the others will all take place at the same venue, there is a chance that the Povetkin-Whyte could go abroad, with Gibraltar, the British Overseas Territory on the southern tip of Spain, one possible venue.

“We're looking to stage all of those fights in one location, with perhaps only the Dillian Whyte fight going international,” Hearn said. “At the moment that's an option but we haven't made any decisions yet.

“We've spoken to some quite interesting ones, a couple in the Middle East and we've also spoken to Gibraltar and also to Monaco.

“The feeling from Dillian is he would like crowds for that fight. It's a big fight for him and he would prefer that fight in front of some kind of crowds but even in the territories I mentioned there's no guarantee that would be the case either. There could be crowds in Gibraltar.”

Hearn said a UK venue had not been chosen yet, although he expected it to be in the London area. Matchroom staged five shows, including Anthony Joshua’s world heavyweight title defence against Kubrat Pulev, at the SSE Arena, Wembley.

A crowd of 1,000 was allowed in for the Joshua-Pulev fights, but a rise in coronavirus n the UK led to the government banning crowds at live events at the moment.

“Previously we've been to Milton Keynes, Peterborough, Wembley, we could go anywhere really,” Hearn said. “I think the general feel from the [British Boxing} Board [of Control] is that the medical support in London is best for the fighters in terms of the specific units, so the Board would be happy at the moment for us to stay in London.

“We will be working on venues over the next few days then we will put it to the board and make a decision together.”

Matchroom Sport Managing Director Eddie Hearn said: “Even in a pandemic I feel like this is the strongest start to a year Matchroom have had in a long time. It’s going to be a rough ride over the next couple of months but with plenty of drama and excitement along the way. We have some thrilling main events and stacked cards that feature some of the biggest names in British boxing return to action as we look to make a real statement in 2021.”

Adam Smith, Head of Boxing Development for Sky Sports, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled with our strongest start to a New Year as we bring you more of the biggest names in British boxing.

“The hugely popular Josh Warrington kicks off our first live show on Sky Sports against Mauricio Lara, with a unification clash in touching distance.

“Josh Kelly settles his long-running rivalry with David Avanesyan, while Amy Timlin and Carly Skelly share the ring again on the same bill after battling to a draw.

“Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin delivered one of the most dramatic Heavyweight fights of last year and we’re expecting more fireworks in their rematch, with Campbell Hatton also making his pro debut, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

“Lawrence Okolie finally receives his World Title fight against Krzysztof Glowacki on another exciting night that features Ramla Ali’s return and Chantelle Cameron’s first defence of her WBC belt.

“It’s then Conor Benn’s turn to take centre stage in a crucial showdown with Samuel Vargas. Boxing is back in 2021, so get ready for more epic fights on Sky Sports.”

DAZN EVP Joseph Markowski said: “From a Heavyweight rematch to championship fights to a highly anticipated pro debut, the early 2021 schedule from Matchroom has a little bit of everything and we look forward to delivering these events to fans around the world on DAZN.”

Dillian Whyte confirms Harold 'The Shadow' Knight, former co-trainer for Lennox Lewis, as new coach

Dillian Whyte: "Harold is a very important piece of the puzzle, from a technical point of view, and from an experience point of view." The British heavyweight is preparing for Alexander Povetkin rematch on March 6.

Dillian Whyte confirms Harold 'The Shadow' Knight, a former co-trainer for Lennox Lewis, is a new addition to his coaching team for the Alexander Povetkin rematch.

Knight flew out to Whyte's camp in October, joining trainer Xavier Miller to help assist Whyte's preparations in Portugal for his crucial second clash with Povetkin on March 6, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

The highly regarded American cornerman played a key role throughout the heavyweight career of Lewis, helping to guide him to a string of world title victories, including avenging two knockout losses in rematch wins over Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman.

Knight worked closely with the legendary late trainer Emanuel Steward and welcomed the opportunity to pass on his experience to Whyte, who can propel himself back into world title contention with a revenge victory over Povetkin.

"I couldn't be happier to be involved and we're here to get Dillian back to that No 1 position," Knight exclusively told Sky Sports.

"It's going to be tough, believe it when I tell you, Povetkin is a very tough, smart fighter and he wants to stay there.

Image

"This is where it comes from how bad you want it, and the team members around you, to see how good we are to put those ingredients into Dillian to get him back to that No 1 ranking."

Whyte is just weeks away from his showdown with Povetkin, a chance to avenge last summer's shock defeat, and believes Knight and Miller are devising a perfect game-plan.

"A world title challenger, a great fighter, and he worked closely with Lennox Lewis throughout his career as well, so Harold knows his way around heavyweight boxing and he's a great addition," Whyte told Sky Sports.

"He's very vocal, he keeps pushing you, and he works very well together with Xavier Miller.

"Harold is a very important piece of the puzzle, from a technical point of view, and from an experience point of view.

"He has followed my career from afar and I'm very happy to have him up close, in my corner. He's someone that had been studying me and liked my style. He was happy to join the camp and has fitted straight in."

I think the winner of this fight will be Covid. I will actually be surprised if someone who spent quite a few days in hospital and pushed back a date already will be 100% ready. I do suspect Long Covid and I think he's doing this for the money. Don't like the vibe of his manager saying "two more fights" - that sounds like someone who knows there is a problem but doesn't want to make it obvious.

Either this fight doesn't happen or its going to be horrible.
