I wonder how many boxers are experimenting with SARMS, which probably have all the nasty side effects of steroids but can be purchased legally? But they are on banned substances lists for sport.

Most of the smart ones are microdosing with regular blood work. SARMs can be almost undetectable and of course EPO which is the main one for boxing, is very difficult to detect if used correctly.

I think that is because of the "New Wave" in the 90s - with the likes of Offaly and Clare winning the Championship twice and Wexford winning it in between. I think it's pretty much accepted that those three counties completely outworked the more successful counties who had (probably) the more skilful players... Of course, that's not to take away from Johnny Dooley, Jamesie O'Connor and Martin Storey, each of them were great Hurlers in their own right. And you'd struggle to find any back men better than Brian Lohan, Seanie McMahon and Brian Whelahan anywhere...

What I'm saying is - it's obvious that their has to be a minimum degree of talent to achieve the top of the mountain but the work-rate and application that the New Wave put in just surpassed what The Cats and The Rebels were doing at the time...

That's part of the reason why Brian Cody has been so dominant with The Cats - certainly the talent is there but they will never allow themselves to be outworked and with the ability that they have, they were seemingly unstoppable...

sounds like that Barcelona team that just so happened to cover much, much more ground per man than their rivals did.

Jean Pascal went this week, testing positive for a stack of 3 synthetic compounds. As someone said earlier in the thread, recovery is a huge part of taking PEDs. For an older, possibly out of shape boxer, being able to double your workload in the gym and recover is huge for making rapid progress. Try and do that natural and you end up sore and knackered!

I honestly believe that there should be an open professional boxing league, where anything goes PED-wise, and a clean league, where state of the art testing is mandatory to compete and consequences are a lifetime banishment to the open league.

I’ve no objection to PEDs so long as the opponents I.e. Jack in this case knows and is willing to accept and fight.

The main reasons celebrities like The Rock aren’t open about their PED use is fear of public perception and loss of work/endorsements. Anthony Joshua isn’t going to be getting much sponsorship stuck in a PED league.

Not for long. The market (per usual) would adjust attitudes.

Pascal of course claims ignorance of these curious substances and has fired his strength and conditioning coach. Presumably he thought he was injecting his arse with multivitamins or something wholesome.
