Michael Spinks: Rank him

Let's limit this to Spinks' ranking at light-heavyweight.

He should be at the very top all time at LHW. I'd call him the best.

Michael Spinks at light heavyweight was a top 5 of all time. He had the Spinks Jinx lots of skill and an awkward style.

A remarkably good and kind human being as well.
Archie Moore and Michael are a cut above the rest of the historical greats in this division.

And don't forget the man that beat Archie 3 times. Ezzard Charles.

I'd put Charles over Moore and Spinx over both.

No...I have government clearance to eliminate him from the discussion, since he vied for and attained the HW title.

Now...to be fair, in a world where there are less rules and regulations, we could have that argument. However under the guidelines of a more "hands on" type of governmental control....we must follow the rules. mask on, six feet back, No Ezzard Charles LHW discussions.

You can't fight city hall!

Well....at LHW we could sanction Archie or Michael for a City Hall fight....but not Ezz. One must stay in their lane.

Not sure what you are getting at; Spinks won the hw title as well.
Anyway, I rank Spinks as the best light heavyweight of all time. Really, what more could he have done? He beat the best of the division when the division was very strong.

Charles and Moore, maybe a could of other guys are close and it's certainly debatable.

So I guess he's eliminated too huh?

He was a great light heavyweight no question. He was only a mediocre average heavyweight.

Top 5 ever aat Light Heavyweight...

The people in the ballot for top LH are:
Spinks, Archie Moore, Bob Foster, Ezzard Charles, Gene Tunney, Harry Greb, Billy Conn and Victor Galindez...I might be forgetting someone....maybe Jose Torres, but then we'd have to throw in Dick Tiger too....

Top five. Greb, Charles, Langford and Moore all have a chance of beating him on the right night.

You know i always thought that if Floyd Patterson fought at Light Heavyweight he could have been one of the greatest ever. The heavyweights were just too big for him.

He still was dominant in his era and can easily go top 20 all time at HW. His era was just relatively weak. Only Ingo was at the comparable level and fights with him became exactly that competetive. Then there came Liston and Patterson had never been the same afterwards. Probably it was more matter of his chin than size.

I guess his ideal weight class would have been Cruiserweight when it was 190lbs.

Of my time watching boxing since 1978, Michael Spinks is the best Light-heavyweight fighter that I have ever seen.

A very smart fighter. Like the greats Gene Tunney and Sugar Ray Leonard, was a thinking man's type of fighter. A great strategist inside the ring.

Wow, now that you mention it, I'd never thought about him that way! Yeah can you imagine? He'd probably even been seen as invincible in that weight at least for some time!

Best of my lifetime. I don't think he is at the same level as Charles or Moore. Some rank Langford at the weight class too.

Tunney and Greb might edge him but I'm open on that one.

Galindez? Foster is crazy overrated, but a common name. Victor top 5 is something I've never heard.
