Who is the biggest threat to Canelo?
There's GGG (getting old now), but who is the biggest threat to beating Canelo in the weight classes that he swims in? who can move up?
Re: Who is the biggest threat to Canelo?
Dmitri Bivol is real threat for Canelo, but i still favor Alvarez to win.
Artur Beterbiev brings punching power and strength which is unknown for mexican. Russian offensive arsenal is impressive but on the defense, he is average. Im not sure if i favor Canelo in this one.
Canelo had problem with slick boxers with good footwork so maybe Saunders and Andrade can cause some problems, but Canelo can handle that at this stage of his career.
Jermall Charlo has very sharp, fast and strong jab which is very good weapon against Alvarez. This is actually fight i wanna see. I think Canelo can handle this too
Golovkin beat Canelo in first fight, but Alvarez learned from that and defeated GGG in rematch. Canelo got better since that, while GGG got older and his defense and reflexes suffered
Plant, Benavidez, smaller Charlo, Spence are not big threats IMO

At 168 its David Benavidez. Too bad he doesn't have a belt at the moment.

dorticos you newbs
Re: Who is the biggest threat to Canelo?
Well, the thread asks who is the biggest threat.....
Dort is listed at 6'3" 215 so he's probably a little bigger than Dorticos![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Re: Who is the biggest threat to Canelo?
Charlo, Golovkin, Plant, Benavidez, Beterbiev and Bivol sound like the most threatening. I'd chose Beterbiev.

Re: Who is the biggest threat to Canelo?
Crawford could eventually move up to 168 and give Canelo the fight of his life. I have almost endless faith in Crawford. He's Magic in that ring. A Real Throwback,to the likes of The Old-Time Legends, such as Sam Langford and Henry Armstrong.
I realize many will laugh, chuckle, and scoff at this analytical assertion of mine, but it's just That Obvious, from what I've carefully observed. What legit advantage would Canelo Really have against Crawford ?
The only one I can think of is,a Possible advantage in Punch Resilience. Some may say something like "Oh,but Crawford will be too Fat at SMW,but keep this in mind,Crawford only has to weigh-in at 161 to be a SMW.

Re: Who is the biggest threat to Canelo?
The biggest threat to Canelo would be any testing agency that forbids the use of retroactive therapeutic use exemptions.
The single biggest name suspected juicer in the sport since Mayweather. Mayweather might even want to boast that he schooled Canelo both inside and outside the ring.
Gloves, ring, location, referee, judges, friendly testing agencies, or none at all preferably, detailed purse percentages, carefully selected dates such as Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Independence Day, and a whole host of non declared detail.
Consumate professionals, both of them.
If you look closely enough they can both show you time and time again just how this game works.
Simply light years ahead of the rest.

Re: Who is the biggest threat to Canelo?
I mean he's already been lucky to get some decisions, and I don't think it's as if other Middleweight or Super Middleweights are incapable of doing as well.
I think David Benavidez could beat him. At Light Heavyweight I'd give Beterbiev and Bivol a good shot.
Anybody that couldn't damage him or knock him down probably couldn't beat him for now. Even if they could win more rounds.

As great as Canelo is, this needs to be said. He looked unnaturally strong v C Smith. He was throwing hard shots all night and there was no typical Canelo slow down.bradinho wrote: ↑21 Jan 2021, 23:46WADAgolden_balls wrote: ↑19 Jan 2021, 16:54 There's GGG (getting old now), but who is the biggest threat to beating Canelo in the weight classes that he swims in? who can move up?

Canelo took Callum Smith’s best punch away from him by repeatedly and intentionally throwing right hooks to the Brits left arm from the get-go.lazboy wrote: ↑22 Jan 2021, 02:30As great as Canelo is, this needs to be said. Callum Smith claimed that it was Canelo's intention and a blatant part of his gameplan to injury his arm.
And from round four onwards, Callum Smith's injured left arm prevented him from returning fire with any real venomous shots, which meant that Canelo essentially fought a constantly retreating and passive punchbag for nine rounds.
It’s much more difficult to run out-of-gas in that situation.
And Callum Smith felt the reason for his defeat was due to Canelo’s superior experience rather than his physical attributes.
