Arthur Abraham Retires From Boxing, Has No Desire To Fight Again

Former middleweight and super middleweight world champion Arthur Abraham, 40-years-old, spoke to News Armenia and officially announced the end of his boxing career. The boxer added that he just wants to spend time with his family, children and parents.

He doesn't have any desire to return to the ring - even as rumors continue to loom of a potential fight with the comebacking Felix Sturm.

The Armenian boxer, who is based in Germany, was at one time one of the most popular athletes in the country. The veteran is currently in Yerevan with his family. He hasn’t been in the ring for nearly two year, but he never made an official announcement about the end of his career.

Abraham’s last fight took place on April 28, 2019 in the German city of Offenburg where he beat Danish boxer Patrick Nielsen with a controversial decision. A rematch was discussed, but never took place.

The Armenian boxer has scored 47 victories in his pro career, with six defeats and 30 wins by knockout.

During his prime, Abraham was regarded as a very dangerous boxer with an iron chin and power in both hands. While many tabbed him as one of the top boxers at middleweight, he was never the same fighter at 168-pounds.

Some of Abraham's career highlights include his two fight series with Edison Miranda, his four fight series with Robert Stieglitz and several notable wins in Germany. During his run in the Super Six super middleweight tournament, Abraham scored a vicious knockout over Jermain Taylor, but lost bouts to Andre Dirrell (DQ), Carl Froch and Andre Ward.

Abraham became a two-time super middleweight champion when he recaptured the belt in 2014 from Stieglitz. He lost his WBO title in 2016 to Gilberto Ramirez, who won a lopsided twelve round decision. A year later Abraham was outboxed over twelve rounds by Chris Eubank Jr. Abraham was out of the ring for nearly two years before the contest with Nielsen.

He has been flirting with a few rematches though.

He was a very good Middleweight. Just not the same at 168 though. Got some dubious decision.

Won't forget his KO win over Taylor and his fight with Miranda. Broke his jaw in rd4 and carried on til the end and won a decision.

He had the "tight guard power punching pressure fighter" style down a tee at middleweight but at supermiddle he just couldn't push the bigger guys around and so his workrate fell even further and he got outboxed by most of the better supermiddles during his time at that weight
