What would Sugar Ray Robinson, Alì, Roberto Duran(...) have done if they had brittle bones disease like Mayweather Jr.?

Post by Jacopodb »

A little fantasy effort here: what would the greatest names in boxing history (you name them) have done if they had brittle bones disease since early in their career like Floyd Mayweather Jr. had?

Would they have switched to a more defensive style like Floyd, would they have just retired, would they have won the same?

If you prefer: what could've Floyd Mayweather Jr. have accomplished if he hadn't brittle bones: would he have fought his opponents on the same terms as he did?

He's prone to hand injuries, he doesn't have brittle bone disease.

If they had much worse hands, Robinson and Ali could just fought more and range, and threw lighter punches. Duran would have a much harder time.

Tons of fighters have had hand issues to one extent or another, especially back when the hand protection wasn't as good.

Spot on. If you actually had Brittle Bones you wouldn't be able to make it as a boxer at all. You'd be far too injury prone.

Likely Mayweather would not have been able to fight back in their day to the same efficacy. Or he'd have had a much shorter career.

Ali did have bad hands. Had a cortisone shot before fights? They were especially bad in the Norton rematch.
