Rees vs Watson

Anyone seen the odds on this fights.

I really think Watson will win this one (barring controvesy).

Watson was a tad unlucky, by most accounts, not to have a decision over Lee Meager and he also ran Steve Murray very close. He has a great workrate and a proven 12 round opperator.

Gavin Rees is a fat Featherweight who has had his fair share of problems outside of the ring. A talented come forward boxer no doubt, but isn't proven in anything at domestic level - cause he hasn't fought a top tenner yet. He had a bit of a struggle in his last two outings (vs Thorpe and especially vs Allen). He didn't look impressive then, but looked mighty impressive vs a faded Michael Muya.

All being equal, I think Watson will win (I'm sure he'll be the underdog). He's the more proven and I think will have the better fitness and might think its his turn to have a bit of luck.

Tough fight to call.

I think Rees may well have more natural ability and power but has been inactive and has had problems out of the ring.

I could see Rees using his edge in power hurting Watson with some hurtfull bodyshots early on but Watson is very tough and durable and should soak up the early punishment to outlast the Welsh fighter.

Watson on points in a real tough, bruising nd VERY close fight.

i hear rees has failed the weight is it true ,if so he has just let down a lot of people and allegedly doesnt like to be let down

That would be a bit odd as Rees weighed in at 138 for Thorpe a few months ago and there was no title on the line so it's not like he had to boil himself down to that . He has also fought as low as 126lbs so not making 135lbs is a very poor showing from him and he musn't have trained right(if what you heard is true) .

I felt Watson would win this fight anyway .

i meant it was a 6 rounder due to the weight by the way,not the result but i was shocked by that too.

i dont know how heavy reese was but heard a rumour he wasnt bothered with the celtic title anyway so it may have been planned.

I know that , I said for Rees fight with Thorpe there was no title on the line and therefore he didn't have to force himself to make Lightweight .

Also, anyone know why on earth this catchweight contest wasn't over at least 8 rounds. When championship fighters have problems like this (Joan Guzman, Corrales vs Castillo II) their catchweight contest is over 10.... I think I know the answer, but why wasn't fatty Rees force to fight a 10 rounder vs Watson.
