Josh Taylor vs. Jose Ramirez - 22 May 2021

Josh Taylor vs Jose Ramirez planned for May in USA as Taylor roars, ‘I’m better than him in every department’

Josh Taylor’s highly anticipated undisputed super-lightweight title showdown with Jose Ramirez is being targeted for early May, talkSPORT have been told.

Scotland’s WBA and IBF champion Taylor cannot wait to get his hands on America’s WBC and WBO title-holder Ramirez in an historic bout which could see the UK’s first ever four-belt champion crowned.

Taylor’s promoter Bob Arum, who also represents Ramirez, joined talkSPORT Fight Night on Saturday night.

He revealed: “I advised Josh that the fight with Ramirez would be in the United States and would take place in early May.

“I had to get him busy getting his visa and all that sort of stuff because they told me Josh wants to arrive in the United States at least a month before that fight.

“He wants to train in our gym – the same gym Tyson Fury trained in.”

A date in ‘early May’ suggests the fight is being targeted for Saturday, May 1.

The following Saturday, May 8, is known to be the target for a Canelo Alvarez fight and Arum would not want the events to clash.

Following Arum’s appearance on the show, Taylor himself then joined talkSPORT Fight Night and said: “I do 100 per cent believe I’m gonna win this fight.

“I’ve watched Ramirez a hell of a lot and I just don’t see he does anything better than me at all.

“I’m better than him in every department.

“Boxing IQ, boxing on the back foot, boxing on the front foot, I don’t believe his fighting inside game is that good either.

“I just think I’ve got the beating over him in every department.

“It’s down to me and the way I take this fight on, the way I decide to fight. I think it’s my fight to lose.

“I’m not gonna disrespect him, he is a very good fighter. You don’t become unified world champion for no reason. I’m not gonna slag him off because I do respect him.

“But I just believe I win that fight hands down.”

Ward can be very good at times, but he's way off the mark with that statement.

Fingers crossed this fight gets made, should be an absolute cracker. I fancy Taylor via hard-fought decision.

I don't think Ward has seen him box, maybe a few highlights. Taylor is very good inside.

:TU: against Proggrias one of the thing that impressed me most wasn't his usual sharp punching inside, but the way he used his bigger frame to bully Prograis backwards physically.

whether or not he can do that to Ramirez is another thing but it showed a real 'pro edge' to his inside game.

For me his inside game won him the Prograis fight. I had them splitting the first & last 4 rounds but it was the middle rounds where Taylor won it

Yeah that'll be laziness from ward

Doubt he's watched taylor fight, if he had, he would have picked up on Taylor's inside fighting :TU:

Great fight this.

I fancy Taylor to win by UD, but Ramirez is a quality operator in his own right.

I remember an interview Ward did about Froch/Groves 1.
He talked about the fight for a while, then admitted that he hadn't watched the fight, only the first round and the round it was stopped.

I like Andre, but how can he be taken seriously as an analyst when he pulls nonsense like that.

Would love to go over to this and watch it. Never seen a Scottish fighter in Vegas afore so it would be good, but think that due to the current restrictions I can't see it happening

Might hinge a lot on who’s judging this. Likely to be quality from Taylor and volume from Ramirez.

It could and I'm very impressed with both boxer's strong points.

Truly great times we are living in as boxing fans. Without doubt the two best boxers in the world at light welterweight.

I love your enthusiasm mate.
But for the last 11 months, and probably the next 8 months have been the worst times for boxing...

I don't agree. Covid19 is a nightmare, but despite that the continued trend of quality match-ups is still happening.

We're lucky to be getting anything, let alone pant popping pairings like Miguel Berchelt v Oscar Valdez is almost up there with Salvador Sanchez v Wifredo Gomez :box:

If Taylor v Ramirez also settle their differences in May 2021, how much more can we realistically expect ? :maybe:

I'd Joyce v Dubois didn't happen last year we'd have a 5 or 6 page thread slagging off boxing saying these fights don't happen these days. Bull sh1t ! That was a classical heavyweigt pairing with all three major titles on the line (British, Commonwealth & European). Great times :box:
