Daniel Dubois Ring Return Targeted For Late April or May 2021

Daniel Dubois Ring Return Targeted For Late April or May, Says Warren

Daniel Dubois’s decision not to involve himself in social media has helped him to get over his traumatic loss to Joe Joyce, according to his promoter. Frank W.

Dubois took a knee in the tenth round of the British, Commonwealth and European heavyweight title fight in November after suffering a factured eye socket and retina damage.

But the manner of the loss sparked widescale uproar on social media platforms with many accusing Dubois of quitting. Dubois, though, does not bother with social media, despite having a Twitter account run by his team, so has not been bothered by much of the sensationalist criticism as he hasn’t seen it.

“He is not interested in social media, which is very good,” Warren said. “He just wants to get on and fight.”

“I met with him last week. He is not a braggard or a loudmouth and was quite philosophical. When he was caught, he said the pain was searing right through his head.

“He said it has happened and he has to get on it. The pressure's on him now, but it is not like he took a real belting or got knocked out. If he had been pulled out the round before, two judges had him ahead on their scorecard.”

The defeat at Church House in Westminster in November was the first of Dubois’s career after 15 wins. Victory would have put him in line for a shot at the WBO title. But while Warren is eyeing up a fight between Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk for the interim WBO title, he has Dubois pencilled in for a ring return in early May.

The heavyweight has an appointment with his eye specialist early next month, which it is hoped will lead to him getting the green light to return to full training.

“The doctor is happy with the way the fractures have healed,” Warren said.. “He has to go back to get his retina looked at again, but hopefully he will then be OK to go again then and get back into full training.

“We want to get him back out in late April or maybe May. All of us are very disappointed with what happened, but he is young and we are not going to rush him into anything.”

Badly matched. Nothing to prepare him for Joyce.

Normally FW matches his fighters very well and usually gets its right unless it's a too big an opportunity to turn down like with Yarde.
I guess Enzo v Haye was another one but as I said he usually gets it right.

Think he is under pressure from BT to deliver big fights.

That doesn't help either with pressure to put on big fights on BT probably.

Boxing is the best sport 100% but at least there's less f*****g about in MMA

He was seemingly great back in the day as when the majority of his fighters stepped up they won titles at their first chance.

There aren’t too many examples of that in recent years though - Billy Joe was clearly ready for Andy Lee and had good fights to prepare him but both Dubois and Yarde were, in hindsight, woefully mismatched in advance of their big fights. Also got the Paddy Barnes vs Rosales fight wrong although given Barnes’ age I fully understand that one.

In fact who was the last fighter that FW took from debut or very early in their career to a world title?

Hatton? Clev? Degale? Saunders? Khan? Ricky was very well matched.

Yeah - as I said in my post his timing of knowing when to step fighters up used to be great. The Tszyu timing was great as was the matchmaking for Clev and Saunders.

Degale left FW not long after he lost to Groves and clearly Khan needed to be matched carefully after Prescott - Kotelnik was perfect for him to get a world title.

So was Billy Joe the last one Frank has promoted up to a world title from the start? 5 years is a fairly long time if that’s the case.

He should probably push for a comeback fight to re-establish his name and prove his worth to fans with an opponent like Wardley or Price, both very beatable but will put up a fight. If he takes this approach it will be more likely that we see him face someone like Vianello or Dinu which would bring less attention to himself but Frank would obviously say they're much more of a threat.

How did Frank "fornicate up"? Daniel was winning on the cards when then injury caused him to retire. It's not like he was badly out of his depth. When a 50/50 is classed as a "fornicate up" by fans I shake my head.

Focussing on high world rankings rather than fighter development can come up a cost.

Anyone think Jack Catterall's opposition over the last 3-4 years has in any way prepared him for the likes of Taylor?

FW was talking up Archie Sharp fighting the winner of Herring-Frampton this week. He's what, 7-8th, in the British top ten at the weight?

I think they were relying on Dub's power over Joe's experience.
Fair play, it was a decent match.

9 out of 10 people thought DDD would do the job. Does that mean he was hyped well?

He was still in the fight. I didn’t have him ahead though. Had JJJ by 1 or 2 rounds at the time.

Strong opinion at the time was DDD would put Joyce down as all Joyce was was a pressure fighter

Lots of bods fancied Joyce to walk onto a big shot

Considering he was supposed to have suffered a broken orbital bone and nerve damage, it seems a bit soon to jump back into the ring by April.
