Whilst I'm grateful that they're showing boxing, ITV really are the pits, aren't they? Mind you, they're crap with every sporting event they show, so I'm not suprised.
As for Khan, what was the point? Last time out, he shows a few bad habits, hopefully learns something. So this time he goes in with a guy against whom he can do anything he likes. It's just giving him a chance to slip back into those bad habits. What happened to learning with every fight?

Yes, upset at the coverage - why show the Maccrinelli fight at all if they are showing it on Monday... But they had the words (Highlights) next to the Monday show - I hope we don't have to go through Skelton vs Pie boy again.
Why not show Tony Doherty, they could have shown that fight whole (or Kevin Mitchell).

As for Khan, I agree with the concensus here - Very good, but what was the point. Very dissapointing in McGuigan making a bee line explaining how credible Super Featherweight Bain was against Light Welterweight Khan. I expected more from Barry, he usually been pretty good for not pulling his punches on ITV, about fighters performances. Surely he'll conceed that this was about five steps back from Komjathi.
Also what was with his gloves... Was all the above the BBBoC regulations. I am alledging here, but they looked massive - they looked like Spar gloves too me. Also, can Reebok make gloves for one fighter but not the other. I thought both boxers had to have the same gloves on.

Barry was right - Kham was too herky/jerky and flighty. He needs to get down off his toes, select his shots better and not rely on speed to make up for poor shot selection and a lack of accurracy.
A spell sparring Mexican/Californians on the West Coast of the US would bring him on tremendoudly in my eyes.
He could do with taking a leaf out of this Welsh ex-boxers book. He selects his shot, sets his feet and lets it fly with devastating effect:

best clip I have seen in some time that

He has no chin, wow, what a statement, what a conviction. To be so sure, you must be a pretty good analyst. Yeah I understand people specualting that Khan is overhyped, but to state that he has NO CHIN, well you are quite something.
You know the lad is doing alright, did well in the Olympics, well against Kindelan and unbeaten as a pro, there. He has some talent is only relatively new to the pro game, so why not enjoy him and wish him well.

I think people are saying he has a weak chin because he got knocked down against Watson in ABA'sfist wrote:He has no chin, wow, what a statement, what a conviction. The problem with Kahn is that all his learning is being done in the public eye and his Olympic success means a lot is expected of him, and IMO too much right now.
OK, so maybe the chap last night wasn't the most competitive opponent for him and not the best learning fight for him, but Kahn will have gained confidence from the win.
Also Kahn's promoters have invested heavily in him, so how many risks are they going to take at this stage.
I think the way to look at is from the average fan's point of view. The average fan watching last night will have see Kahn stop someone who had a winning record and will probably have thought this is quite good.

Surely that is the very point that the mostly knowledgable fan on here is complaining about. Yes the general public will be impressed but the genuine boxing fan knows that this nonsense will be hyped by Sports Network for at least another 12 fights before Amir is put in with a live opponent. Just ask yourself what, say the Americans, would be doing with an Olympic medal winner at this stage of his pro career?dandantheweatherman wrote:The problem with Kahn is that all his learning is being done in the public eye and his Olympic success means a lot is expected of him, and IMO too much right now.

c'mon just because we berate his choice of opponents dont mean to say we do not wish him well and support the guy.
its just that he should be in with genuine lightweights - he doesnt need any confidence boost, he needs to get his tekneeq together against people who pose the kind of problems hes gonna have to face all the time.
his shot selection is open to question as targeting the body last night would have ended it in rd1 and he'd a learned something at the same time.
he is a hell of a talent but his boxing seems just a little messy and unfocussed sometimes.

I wouldn't think Khan has a terrible chin, it's that he holds it up too much, especially during frantic exchanges (see Carl Froch.)
These local boxers are ruining his future chances at world level; bad habits take twice as long to stop than they do to adopt.
Hamed was spoiled by going unchallenged for years.
I don't agree with McGuigan: careful progress should only be sought if the fighter is learning/improving; Khan isn't.

I think some of the criticism isn't warranted. Yes, sure I agree (and have stated) that Bain was a big step in the wrong direction in terms of opponent, but Khan is beating up what is in front of him and beating them up well and being pretty exiting.
After watching the two whales going at it... I thought "now here someone who can fight a bit". Okay, it was a punching bag session but at least he was getting in there and trying to put on a show.
The comparison's with Audley is unfair, yes the opponents (with the exception of Komjathi) are similar but the performances are leagues apart. Audley struggled with the likes of Ellis and Derrick McAferty FFS - and "fought" like a pacifist against Bums, Khan is at least making an effort in stopping the guy.
Was Khan impressive yesterday? I thought he was, he can only beat up whats infront of him and thats exactly what he did.
Worryingly though, the results show that M'baye stopped Komjathi yesterday in 4. Now thats a concern, I never saw M'baye as a puncher. Thats the most worrying part of Khan's evening yesterday.
