Caleb Plant vs. Caleb Truax - January 30, 2021
Re: Caleb Plant vs. Caleb Truax - January 30, 2021
Plant dominated Truax, like it had been expected. He took a bit of unnecessary shots earlier in the second half of the fight, but overall it was a very good performance.
Plant is great to watch. Fast, great footwork, polished, good reflexes and defensive rolls, hard jab, swift left hook, changing levels. He's versatile, smart and skilled boxer. I'd call him the best at this weight after Canelo.
If Canelo fights Saunders in May, after he deals with Yildirim in Feb, then Plant gotta fight Benavidez around April or May. In this case the winners of this tourney can have a great matchup around September.

Plant is good but this is another really poor fight that was mandated by the IBF.
Fox’s start to the year is looking really poor. This show followed by Anthony Dirrell in a crap fight.
And we wonder why boxing is struggling in the US whereby Youtubers and long retired ex-pros drive more viewers and PPV buys than actual good fights.

What makes it worse is that this wasn’t a mandatory. It was a voluntary.maverick23 wrote: ↑31 Jan 2021, 07:41 Plant is good but this is another really poor fight that was mandated by the IBF.![]()

Quite a lot of places reported that it was his mandatory. BS, BoxingNews24 and others. Was it not?!Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑31 Jan 2021, 07:42What makes it worse is that this wasn’t a mandatory. Re: Caleb Plant vs. Caleb Truax - January 30, 2021
Boring fight, cant fault Plant too much he won every round with 1 hand, Truax was game, never stopped coming forward but ate jabs and left hooks all night, he did land the odd right hand but overall he was pretty ineffective, Plant controlled him with the jab and lead left, no frills kinda performance, Plant done the same with the injury as he was doing before, easy night, looked like he hurt Truax with a left to the body in the last round but he or commentary never picked up on it
Re: Caleb Plant vs. Caleb Truax - January 30, 2021
I enjoyed watching Plant. He mixes his punches up nicely using different angles and a great jab and hook which he used them the way your supposed to. He needs to get more power and sit down on his right hand. His defense was good except for the few right hands he let Traux hit him with but they didn't effect him at all. He did claim he hurt his left early in the fight but that was the hand he threw the most so it couldn't have been that hurt. I would have liked to see him with Bhop. At this point Canelo smokes him.

I assumed it was his right hand he injured, strange as you say his left was his best asset, not sure why he didnt drop the right hand more often thenJMac wrote: ↑31 Jan 2021, 11:12 I enjoyed watching Plant. In Vegas, somebody put up 285 grand to win a little under six thousand buck on Plant.

Imagine he bet on the wrong Caleb?
Or better yet, he mistakenly picked Truax by mistake and then Truax pulled off the upset.
He’d have made a ton!!

No he hurt his left which was interesting because he used it so much. He was talking to the ref in the ring after the fight and he must of told him he hurt the left and the ref was looking at it. He also mentioned it in the interview after the fight. He has a good jab and hook off the jab and just doesn't throw the right that much but he looked comfortable boxing and not trying to take him out. He should work on developing more power in the right hand for when he is going to need it as he steps up in quality opponents.handsofstone wrote: ↑31 Jan 2021, 11:41I assumed it was his right hand he injured, strange as you say his left was his best asset, not sure why he didnt drop the right hand more often thenJMac wrote: ↑31 Jan 2021, 11:12 I enjoyed watching Plant. That's ridiculously retarded. Obvious gambling addict. Though it was easy money, 291,000 ain't worth risking 285,000.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑31 Jan 2021, 14:00Yeh.
He made $5,700 from a $285,000 bet.
I think it’s the same guy who always bets on the favourite. One day it’s gonna bite him in the ass.
Re: Caleb Plant vs. Caleb Truax - January 30, 2021
Thought this one would be close. Was completely wrong. Overall the card was pretty meh.
Cool because I’ve never seen a ref threaten to take a guy’s paycheck. That was a first. Seldon’s dad was high-value. Bummer seeing him get completely outclassed like that.
How about Coffie getting that big win on the AFN though? That’s awesome. Bet those guys were going wild.

Plant did say he hurt his hand in that fight. so i think he will just heal up and wait for september.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑31 Jan 2021, 14:56Don’t see why not.
April-May time.
Then winner fights winner of Canelo-BJS in September.
Honestly even if he didnt hurt his hand i would expect him to wait. Canelo wants undisputed, has supposedly agreed to billy in may. That means end of year canelo should have 3 belts, plant the last one... Being the last peice in a canelo undisputed when he has publicly said thats his goal, Dream position. Plant is in a position to make near 10 million or something stupid if he waits, i wouldent gamble that.
Re: Caleb Plant vs. Caleb Truax - January 30, 2021
The FOX show was crap and the main event was the worst part of it.
Truax did a good job of making Plant look far better than the reality. Can't see this guy beating Canelo.
Plant won't have that hand speed advantage when in the ring with Canelo and doesn't have the power to keep Canelo out of his face either.
imo BJS has a better chance of upsetting Canelo.

Caleb Plant 'Not Sure' On Hand Surgery; Doesn't Think Injury Will 'Hinder' Him
Caleb Plant left the ring Saturday night suspecting that he had suffered a fracture to his left hand.
The unbeaten IBF super middleweight champion managed the pain well enough to dominate mandatory challenger Caleb Truax in a 12-round title fight FOX televised from Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles. Plant isn’t sure, however, whether his hand injury will require surgery.
A procedure on his hand could keep Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) out of the ring for an extended period, though the right-handed title-holder doesn’t think it will prevent him from facing Canelo Alvarez in September if that high-profile opportunity presents itself.
“I’m not sure [about surgery],” Plant said during a post-fight press conference. “I’ve gotta sit down and get it checked out, and we’ll see. But as of now, I’m not sure. I don’t think it’ll be anything crazy or hinder me, so I just have to get it checked out.”
Plant’s injury all but guaranteed that he won’t fight again while awaiting a showdown versus Alvarez. The Mexican superstar must win two upcoming bouts before Plant would find himself in position to battle boxing’s cash cow, but Plant would be the most appealing opponent for Alvarez thereafter because he would own the only 168-pound title Alvarez would need to become a fully unified champion in their division.
The 30-year-old Alvarez (54-1-2, 36 KOs) is scheduled to make a mandatory defense of his WBC super middleweight title against Avni Yildirim (21-2, 12 KOs) on February 27 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami (DAZN). If the massively favored Alvarez defeats Turkey’s Yildirim, he’ll likely battle Billy Joe Saunders (30-0, 14 KOs) on May 1 or May 8 in a fight for Alvarez’s WBA and WBC crowns and the WBO belt England’s Saunders owns.
The 28-year-old Plant declined to discuss a potential Alvarez-Saunders fight following his easy victory over Minnesota’s Truax (31-5-2, 19 KOs, 1 NC).
“I’m not sure,” Plant replied when asked how an Alvarez-Saunders fight would unfold. “That’s for them to figure out. I’m worried about me and my team and what I have going on. And that’s their business, so when the bell rings, that’s for them to get in there, figure out and settle their differences. So, I don’t know.”
Plant, of Ashland City, Tennessee, knows that he expected more resistance from Truax, a 37-year-old former IBF super middleweight champ who entered their 12-round fight as a huge underdog. The younger, more athletic, skillful Plant won every round on each judge’s scorecard (120-108) and battled through a hand injury Plant believes occurred in the fourth or fifth round.
“Champions can adjust and get through anything,” Plant said. “So, it was just about staying focused and, you know, staying disciplined and sticking to the game plan and, like I said, it maybe hindered me here and there. But I still feel like I used it well and worked through it well, and I got a dominant victory, a shutout on all the cards.”
