I'm a Bermane Stiverne fan
I know that people are dogging him right new, however I want to give Stiverne some accolades.
Born in Haiti (the youngest of 14 children), Stiverne started boxing at the age of 19. As an amateur he won a silver medal in the super heavyweight division at the 2005 National Championships, as well as bronze in the 2003 and 2004 Championships. In international competition he beat Robert Helenius (points) and David Price (knockout). His total amateur record was 49 wins and 10 losses.
As a pro he held the WBC title for 8 months in 2014 (becoming the first Haitian-born boxer to win a world heavyweight championship) this after KO'ing an always tough Chris Arreola in the 6th round.
True, Stiverne has had difficulty since (going 1-4 with lots of inactivity in between), but let's look at his competition for a moment (Deontay Wilder X 2 ... and currently undefeated top prospects Joe Joyce & Trevor Bryon).
I'm just saying to give the dude his props. he's never backed down from a challenge and has always given it his all, including last night going deep into the 11'th round.

Re: I'm a Bermane Stiverne fan
I disagree.
Stiverne (video below) first ate a brutal Wilder combo (including a shotgun like right hand) and somehow pulled himself off of the canvas for more. Bermane then absorbed 4 more power shots (including a hard right directly to the temple) crashing him down hard .... and again Stiverne immediately rose back up like "The Undertaker" for more. Wilder then went in for an animal like kill smashing Bermane to near unconsciousness ... and if you see on the video Stiverne AGAIN arose .. now, of course by then the fight was stopped .. however the Haitian showed an unbelievable tremendous HEART in this contest.
Re: I'm a Bermane Stiverne fan
I'm neither a Bermane Stiverne fan nor a Bermane Stiverne hater. He's just an average fighter. Good power, and he overachieved by winning a World Title.
In the era of only 1 Champion he'd have absolutely never have become a Champion. He's a decent contender primarily because of his power which is pretty much the only part of his game that's exceptional. He's not a particularly skilled boxer as Ray Austin showed.
But his power took him pretty far, and earned him quite a bit of money.
The guy has done well for himself with what he has.

He might have showed heart in getting up, but he clearly didn't prepare like someone that cared.Las Vegas boxing guy wrote: ↑30 Jan 2021, 13:06I disagree.

Re: I'm a Bermane Stiverne fan
Stiverne was decent, when he was in prime. He was done after the first Wilder fight and should have retired after it. He had justed wasted a lot of time in his career. He should have had other promotion. Of course, he's an overachiever because of the strap and ironically he could have achieved less in a case of fighting more often, but in the last case he would have been more proven as a top fighter. And now he only has Arreola as a more or less decent scalp.

Re: I'm a Bermane Stiverne fan
is he the second best guy wilder's beat? or is breazeale better?
Re: I'm a Bermane Stiverne fan
Stiverne's quite a bit better I'd say. Breazeale's best win was Ugonoh. He's a punchbag. Stiverne can at least box.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑30 Jan 2021, 18:07 is he the second best guy wilder's beat? or is breazeale better?
Re: I'm a Bermane Stiverne fan
Prime vs prime I'd chose Stiverne to outbox and maybe even stop Breazeale. Right now Stiverne is shot and it's not clear how much of Breazeale is left, as he is inactive and has been knocked out cold most recently. Still it seems that Breazeale should be fresher. Right now I'd pick Breazeale to KO Stiverne.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑30 Jan 2021, 18:07 is he the second best guy wilder's beat? or is breazeale better?

Re: I'm a Bermane Stiverne fan
Now I'm not haitian on Stiverne but he has had opportunities out of all proportion to his achievements, purely because of his association with Don King. I think I'm right in saying that in the last six years he's had more world title challenges than other fights. Yes I am I just looked it up.
When you look at his career his best wins were against Chris Arreola whose only real asset as a fighter is/was an ability to soak up punishment. He is a real tough guy but is extremely limited in terms of boxing skill and has himself acknowledged that he suffers stamina issues. I like Chris Arreola but beating him even twice is no indication that you possess elite quality.
People forget that when Povetkin failed the drug test in the run up to the Stiverne fight (Ostarine I think it was) that Stiverne also failed his test. Double standards were applied and Povtkin was prevented from fighting Stiverne in a WBC title eliminator and if I remember correctly, Stiverne was made mandatory without having to fight. The only fight he had in between the two losses to Wilder (4 years apart) was against journeyman, Derric Rossy who put Stiverne on the deck before being ajudged to have lost a decision. Whether or not Stiverne deserved the decision, I can't say because there is no footage on the net, much like when Stiverne got stopped in 4 by 11-15-0 Demetrice King - that footage is nowhere to be found either.
I have nothing against Bermane (incidentally it's pronounced Berman not Ber-mayne, the final 'e' is redundant) even if he is a surly disagreeable old grump, but when I think how Dillian Whyte has been continuously fukced over for three years despite fighting a succession of contender-level opponents, the way opportunity repeatedly drops in Stiverne's lap without him fighting anyone of note (anyone at all almost) it does does rile me and I have to remind myself that Stiverne is not the main culprit, he is just enjoying his undeserved gifts. I'm not sure why you'd be a fan of his though unless you were from Haiti anyway

Re: I'm a Bermane Stiverne fan
I really have nothing against the guy either other than he comes into a lot of fights out of shape and has fought very infrequently over the years.

One disagreement though, Trevor bryant is not a "top Prospect", he is a "World Champion!".......... Na I'm kidding he is not a "top prospect" he is "quite shiit".

Yeah he was in terrible shape
On his day he had cast hands and real power, but slow feet and very lazy workrate
