IBF order Kid Galahad vs Jazza Dickens for vacant world featherweight title

The International Boxing Federation has ordered Jazza Dickens (30-3, 11KOs) and Kid Galahad (27-1, 16KOs) to enter negotiations for a fight for the vacant IBF world featherweight title, after former champion Josh Warrington opted to vacate the belt.

Dickens and Galahad are the two top rated names in the IBF featherweight rankings and have previously met in the ring, with Sheffield's Galahad earning the victory when he won the vacant British super-bantamweight title back in September 2013, so fight fans that fancy themselves as a sharpgambler will have plenty of online research and footage available to place their bets wisely.

Since that bout, Dickens has gone from strength to strength in his career, winning five fights since the start of 2019 while Galahad has won just one during that time, and the Liverpool boxer feels that will have a big impact in their proposed battle.

The 30-year-old Liverpudlian has won his last eight fights and is unbeaten in almost four years now, and he recently won the MTK Golden Contract final against in-form British champion Ryan Walsh.

Dickens told IFL TV: “Me and Galahad fought seven years ago and it was a big occasion at the time. It was my first British title fight and a big opportunity. We had both been nominated for 'Young Fighter of the Year' that year too, so there was a lot on the line.

“Whoever won goes forward with their career, and whoever lost had to rebuild. It was a good fight and there were no excuses why I lost, he was the better man on the night, but now I look forward to this potential rematch.

“When two football teams play each other seven years ago, it’s not the same teams that play seven years later, and that’s the same case here. He’s not playing the same team, and the momentum is with me.

“You still can’t deny that he’s a really good fighter, but fights like this is why I got into boxing. I want to be the best and now I’ve got this chance.”

Josh Warrington vacated his IBF World Title on January 21, 2021 after the IBF refused to sanction his proposed unification fight with Xu Can in April. Matchroom are looking to finalise that fight on April 24 for the coveted Ring Magazine belt.

Dickens looks in his prime right now, but I would favour Galahad to win a 8-4 type decision.

It wasn’t. MTK was the only bidder and won it with $202k so £150k between the 2 of them.

Kid didn’t help himself with this. All of his talk about PBC and having a go in interviews about Hearn favouring Warrington and where were PBC and their millions?!

The purse bid is never worth 1 million.

It was always gonna do just above the minimum required bid.

Even Eddeh didn’t bother.

I know it’s not worth a million. But what happened to all of Kid’s PBC talk? Compared to a lot of other world title fights they put on this would have been a cheap one!

No - he didn’t sign with them. He said in one interview though that he was 95% going to sign with them which didn’t happen and it would also have pissed off Eddie enough for him not to even bid for it.

Probably cost him at least something like £50k and now the likely placer the fight will be shown will be IFL with not much advertising to support it.

I think Galahad will probably win but Jazza’s been active and arguably never better so he may outwork him.

They’re taking a fairly big risk by not signing with a promoter now. It’s probably a 60/40 fight Kid’s favour but if he loses then he doesn’t really have many options and it’s not as though he’s getting massive money for this fight.

If he wins though then it will clearly give them stronger bargaining power.
