Let's start with Britain, because we are always being told by the media that we can save the world by taking in anyone who doesn't fancy living in their own country, or we have to apply the strictest ecological measures to prevent global warming. Why not include Boxing in that list. If we sort our house out, then the world of Boxing will surely fall into line.Fightnight Scores wrote: ↑14 Feb 2021, 07:01But where is the top in boxing?Slim Cockney wrote: ↑14 Feb 2021, 04:43 Every single complaint/criticism on here is justified.
If there's going to be fundamental changes in Boxing to avoid last night's debacle I believe it has to start from the top.
Is it the alphabet governing bodies? With their mindless rankings, multiple pointless belts etc!
Do you mean within Britain? the British Board of Control? Who time and again back their judges and referees after bizarre scorecards without any reppercussions?
And even if say the BBBoC DID begin to enforce some changes, it will only be limited to UK boxing and BBBoC sanctioned fights. The various governing bodies and commisions around the rest of the world would need to be open to following in their footsteps.

Makes a laughing stock of the sport, embarassment
Imagine being new to boxing and watching it in depth for the first time and you see that
No wonder the majority of bods dip in an out for the big bouts
Got to mute it, just cannot entertain fully grown men talking s**t that isn't true

Why would they? We’re probably the world leaders in bad decisions.Slim Cockney wrote: ↑14 Feb 2021, 08:42Let's start with Britain, because we are always being told by the media that we can save the world by taking in anyone who doesn't fancy living in their own country, or we have to apply the strictest ecological measures to prevent global warming. That's my point. Clean up our own act. However, that involves draining the swamp, and that is easier said than done.mickey1975 wrote: ↑14 Feb 2021, 08:55Why would they? Re: British judges/referees tonight - Warrington card
I may have missed something, but what does having Terry O Connor and Howard Foster turning in a decent scorecard have to do with climate change, immigration policy and echoing Donald Trumps’s ‘Drain the swamp’ call?
Re: British judges/referees tonight - Warrington card
It was just as bad back then in the UK too. Germany was no worse than here back then..TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑13 Feb 2021, 19:47 Agreed on both points.
The judging and refereeing is worse than it was in Germany during Ottkes run.
Re: British judges/referees tonight - Warrington card
I like Howard as well. He's a good a ref but feel he may have just been a bit under pressure to let it go. Having said that it looked as though He was just about to stop the fight if the bell had not gone. Also, Josh's corner should have thrown towel in midway through the fifth round in opinionrhino222 wrote: ↑13 Feb 2021, 19:45 I was very disappointed tonight.
Kiko Martinez beat Zelfa Barrett, there is no two ways about it. Decisions like that leave a very shitty taste in my mouth. We moaned for years about German judges etc, protecting the likes of Svenn Ottke. We are just as bad in this country if not worse.
Then....
Howard Foster (and i like Howard as a man) makes a call that could have cost Josh Warrington his health/life.
Josh was 'gone' after being dropped heavily in ?round 4. He didnt beat the count and was in no fit state to continue. he could not walk as the count reached 8. This eventually led to Josh being vert very badly KO'd. Blows he neednt have taken if the referee had not shown British bias. His father/cornerman should also have pulled him out. 2 people could have saved Josh from a potentially health affecting KO. And they failed in their duty of care. Shocking im afraid.![]()

Re: British judges/referees tonight - Warrington card
Things will only change when boxers, managers and promoters realise there is an alternative to the board. Also, the tv companies should be supporting the boxing fraternity more and pressuring the board to be more transparent. Fans are not stupid. commentators being biased, bad judging and refereeing just turns gans off. Boxers train their arses off the least the officials could do is play a fair game.ThereByTheGrace wrote: ↑13 Feb 2021, 19:58 Hard to govern the judges when the board govern themselves. The moneys good in britain but you wont win. Short term gain for long term damage
Re: British judges/referees tonight - Warrington card
Howard cant really win, slated for Groves- Froch and now last night, the stoppage in the groves fight probably played a factor in last night.Muttley wrote: ↑14 Feb 2021, 09:48I like Howard as well. Re: British judges/referees tonight - Warrington card
I think zelfa looked at his corner like that because he was like I didn’t lose by that much, he knew like we all know he was well beaten,. For me it was daylight robbery. but now hes the number 2 guy in the uk according to boxrec, against a guy whose finished and a featherweight max, whose struggled with some of his latest wins, I’d argue at super feather kiko is barely a euro operator. At feather solid euro level, which is his weight at this stage of his career. What that says about zelfa last level, is open to interpretation.Twinkle Toes wrote: ↑14 Feb 2021, 07:20 I think there was an excellent point raised last night, who outside of those 2 judges gave Barret a wining score of 118-111? - Even Barret looked at his corner in shock.
Absolutely no one did - How can professional judges get it so wrong then?
Robert Smith needs to address this in a professional manner instead of doing interviews like he did in that one that was posted above, which at the time everyone cringed at. I think it proves just how deluded the whole lot of them are at the board, and it is no surprise when it's been run by this man.
The board are embarrassing themselves and the British scene on the world stage is a laughing stock when these type of scores are issued. it is undoing all the good work that the board do.

Re: British judges/referees tonight - Warrington card
Get the feeling that champions will say "fornicate going to the UK for a 1-off payday, I can milk this title for more with easy defenses and not get jobbed" if this continues much longer.
Robert Smith comes across as a huge piece of shit in that interview, so I don't expect any of the judges, referees etc to be punished.
---
Note a complaint about the judges, but why was Hopey Price in with a Flyweight? Do we not have any Bantamweight/Super Bantamweight/Featherweight journeymen who could have taught him something rather than let him use someone who looked 3 divisions smaller take a beating for 6 rounds?

Re: British judges/referees tonight - Warrington card
It will def stop champions risking their titles in Britain unless they are getting massive money..
Also for challengers with genuine ambition will be put off unless they truly believe they will win by knockout or they are just being offered big money.
If you look at Ottke type reigns in Germany, little interest was created outside of the country so the big money wasn't there, top fighters would bother making the trip leaving no hopers to make the trip for chump change.
It will be reminiscent of Hattons WBU reign, but then the casuals don't know any better.

Re: British judges/referees tonight - Warrington card
Zelfa fight was very close but the cards were awful. Warrington took a savage whooping, should take a long long break after that.
Re: British judges/referees tonight - Warrington card
The irony here is Warrington gave up his IBF belt as the other champions at 9st were asking for mega-money to come here and try to unify. Why do you think they won’t come over (unless for a Kings Ransome)? It’s due to it not being anywhere near a level playing field.
It’s not once in a blue moon stuff this. It’s sadly every show now. It’s not a good look for the sport with British ‘house’ fighters knowing if they stay on their feet they won’t lose. Shambles really.

Terrible !
Robert Smith has now been called out by Eddie .. he can’t say Eddie doesn’t know boxing, it needs to be addressed ASAP
How do you think David Avanesyan feels after watching that last night? Or Glowacki for that matter.
They know they are going to start 4 points behind so have no option other than to go for the KO.
They can’t try and out box their opponents. They would need to win 10 rounds clearly to get a decision

Smith would still defend the judges if there was secret footage of them taking a bribe from someone to fix a fight

It is a bit odd that Conservative politics have made it into this thread.
Best to ignore it and move on before it becomes a 'thing'.
Re: British judges/referees tonight - Warrington card
We all agree that something needs to change, but who is going to make it happen?
The board don't seem to take accept any critism at all. They are far too set in their ways to change.
Eddie Hearn had a bit of a rant last night, but he won't do anything to change it.
Frank only has a go about judging when he is on the receiving end of a dodgy card.

Re: British judges/referees tonight - Warrington card
Yeah I think Foster was very close to stopping the fight but the bell rang at the end of the fourth, and in a way that meant he missed his chance to stop it - Warrington was never really back in the fight afterwards, but there also wasn’t a definitive moment until the KO where he was in serious trouble, it was more accumulation throughout. It does then put the referee in an awkward position, because realistically when are they going to stop the home fighter unless they’re looking completely gone? Warrington’s corner should definitely have protected him better tho.Muttley wrote: ↑14 Feb 2021, 09:48I like Howard as well.
