Adam Smith Commentary
I can't believe Adam Smith is still commentating. How many more fights must he spoil? Does anyone from Sky actually listen to his commentary?
The fake pantomime voice, the constant use of boxing clichés, and talking to the audience as though we are five year olds that can't remember what happened 1 minute ago - HAS TO STOP!
It's just not on being forced to listen to Adam Smith every time Sky have boxing on. Makes my brain want to explode soon as the fights start and he comes on, ranting but with nothing to say. The man is an embarrassment to sports commentary and so biased, it's unbelievable.
We should have the option for no commentary or another option with a different team on the com's.
I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling like this, everyone I know who watches boxing says the same thing! Don't know how he gets away with it.

He's a pr*ck mate. The worst thing to happen to British boxing in it's history. He has ruined every fight he's commentated on. The day he retires will be the best day of my life. I have to mute the c*nt every time and miss out on the atmosphere of the fight. An absolute tosser.

I don’t mind him as much as some people do, but he’s pretty cringey at times. Same goes for most of the Sky Boxing team tbh, although I thought Saturday night was about as honest as they’ve ever been.
Re: Adam Smith Commentary
Makes a div out of himself on a regular basis
I do like him at times, but other times you just have to whack that mute button

Re: Adam Smith Commentary
Disagree. He's a good egg. The right sort. He's been working for Sky Sports for over 25 years, more than paid his dues. I was initially surprised when he was made boxing's head boy but I get it now and he's got my full support at the moment.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑15 Feb 2021, 11:47

Re: Adam Smith Commentary
Can’t listen to his commentary’s. He is awful. Incapable of talking about the fight going on in front of him until something major happens like a big punch or someone being knocked down. He papers over his lack of fight knowledge by endless waffle about the fighters training, lifestyle etc- it’s really annoying. Talk about the fight in front of you ffs

What the fellows get up to in the changing rooms only becomes a problem if we see it. The answer is not to go snooping. They'll grow out of it.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑15 Feb 2021, 12:12 "Leg's are shaking Adam."

It’s nice to have a decent commentary though.

The atmosphere? Imagine having to mute Arthur vs Gomez because Smith was ruining it.Muttley wrote: ↑15 Feb 2021, 12:34Why don't you turn the sound down?ScottDetonator wrote: ↑15 Feb 2021, 10:54 I can't believe Adam Smith is still commentating. A good egg? The right sort? I don't care if he climbed Mount Everest for charity, swam the English Channel for kids school dinners or saved several drowning passengers from the Titanic by swimming to shore with them tied around his neck - the man is a disaster behind the mic!
I'm also not saying sack him, he can have another 25 years at Sky Sports, just take the mic out of his hand and let him work behind the scenes. Macklin has slowly turned into a 'Yes' man as well, after a promising start.
Why should we have to watch boxing on mute?
Barry Jones and Alex Steedman are leading the way in how it should be done.
Re: Adam Smith Commentary
Very passionate boxing man, and as far as I can tell, very competent within his broader role at sky.
But agree with the above, he really doesn’t do it for me as a commentator. The amount of action that he misses in favour of his usual focus on ‘narrative’ - just talk to me about the fight, that’s what I’m here for. The narrative can come before and after, or (if you have to) during breaks between rounds (though I’d rather hear the corner work).
Biggest issue though is the dual role he has means that he essentially marks his own homework, so change unlikely.

Re: Adam Smith Commentary
Beyond awful that we have to put up with the complete bozo ruining every fight.
And allowing Hearn to do whatever he please, zero quality control
hopefully Sky lose the boxing to DAZN just so we don’t have to listen to the nutless monkey gibbering on with his matchroom
MTK cronies EVER again.

Re: Adam Smith Commentary
Sky should get the cheque book out and bring back Darke and Mccory. never happen thou with the woke generation
Re: Adam Smith Commentary
Yes.
Whilst it's all very sweet and charming to give a voice to the earthy ex-fighters, you need a bit of class involved to keep things right and proper. A moderator if you will. Were Smith to expel himself from his commentary role we'd end up like voyeurs at a chimps' tea party in no time. It's the same when that vulgar nouveau who makes the fights is spouting at press conferences; Smith adds old money gravitas. Without that, what have we become?

There's much better than Smith at that role. Jesus Christ I wouldn't even mind Nick Halling back at this point and that is saying something.Jimmy2020 wrote: ↑15 Feb 2021, 14:02Yes.

Re: Adam Smith Commentary
McCrory wasn't really that much cop.
Ian Darke was class though, absolute top notch, informed, erudite, measured, and when called for he could inject the right amount of emotion into preceedings.
Smith commentates like someone has electrodes attached to his nutsack, and a mouth full of gobstoppers. He shouts and growls when there's eff all happening, he is an irritant.
Re: Adam Smith Commentary
For me, now that there are so many ex-fighters aka 'untrained broadcast journalists' on the roster, the anchor needs to have significant experience and have either been to a good school (like Smith) or be Oxbridge.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑15 Feb 2021, 14:05There's much better than Smith at that role.
