Let’s not forget Eubanks left eye was completely closed against Thompson and those were the same right hands that laid out Rothman(sp?), plus Billy Graham fighters put on a lot of weight between weigh-in and fight (Eubank struggled to eat enough to weigh-in towards 190 - weighed in at 186 in the end).

Mick also mentioned that Groves hits so hard that fighters feel it just going past their ear, when he misses!

And people are supposedly educating me about the the difference between 1 punch power and thudding cumulative power, while suggesting that it's the guy who landed loads but couldnt put down murray, gutnechkt, chudinov, rebrasse, degale, jack, callum, or cej who is the monster 1 hitter who just needs a single shot! well why is that big hit missing so much?? where did the 'fright' go?

just dont add up bruh
Well of course Groves was no Julian Jackson but he could still bang. He amateur career was apparently full of KOs and 20 KOS in 28 pro wins isn't too shabby. Why would Murray say he was such a big puncher if he wasn't, he lost the fight by a wide UD.

Out of the other seven you listed, six had never been stopped by anyone, even to this day.

gutnechkt (Never stopped before and he sadly collapsed after their fight and will never be the same man again)
chudinov (never stopped before but Groves stopped him)
rebrasse (never stopped)
degale (never stopped)
jack (world class fighter, decent chin)
callum (unbeaten and Groves looked shot at that point)
cej (never stopped)
it's not even the knockouts though, he couldnt even drop those guys, and most of them have been down, multiple times even

i mean, sure, im not saying groves is some power fists, but ffs dudes here are saying he's got 'frightening' power and hits so hard that you feel the gusts from his shots

ggg needed only about 1/10 the shots groves did to put murray on his butt (and then kept doing it and stopped him), i just take it all with a grain of salt
Well again dropping someone doesn't tell a tale of someones power, too many variables involved. Eubank stopped Watson and Benn plus dropped Thompson at CW but only had 23KOs in 45 wins and was taken the distance by some very average fighters and didn't look close to hurting most. Bruno didn't knock any top rated HW out, or over yet had 38KOs in 40 wins but was a big hitter if he landed.

Eubank looked fantastic without having to drain. I’ve always wondered how he’d have done in a decent stretch at 175

Just to be clear, I rate Eubank's chin very highly, but Froch's more so because he'd put himself in the danger zone more willingly.

Froch may not have fought a replica of Benn in his career, but he faced enough quality fighters (and the way he fought them) to prove his chin was better IMO.

Benn used to take guys clean off their feet or drop them like a sack of spuds, without even timing them or aiming for chin/temple. Knocked out Robbie Sims for the first time in his career, and Sims had fought everyone.

When Benn moved up (to chase Eubank) he was fighting mostly light-heavy/cruisers coming down and holding him, and he could still make middle could Benn.

The one time in his prime that he did his weight right, it resulted in this -

BBBoC monitored his weight through camp after being horrified at his skin having turned GREY at weigh-in the fight before in Sun City. They forced him to keep his weight down right through this time. Poor Wharton got the brunt of that.

groves had about as much power as eubank jr

again, this thread is about froch vs eubank in the chin deprtment,----groves dropped froch hard, but who was the next best guy he did that to?

Probably Paul Smith, floored twice and TKOd in 2? In fairness nobody else Smith fought - Abraham, Ward, Degale - came anywhere near that.

I have to say I'm coming around to your point of view though, particularly thinking about the Jack fight. Maybe Groves simply had a very good right hand in an era lacking genuine Benn/Jackson-level KO artists. How many of the last ten years at 154-168 had that kind of power at world level? Bute for a short time maybe? Even Froch hardly stopped anyone at world level.

Never went off his feet, though, or against Benn whilst taking there absolute best. Very sensible of both to box.

He might of beaten a regular weight-drained Eubank, or Benn in a rematch. Froze against Benn until the last second of the fifth round, after watching the 1989 released tape of Benn at 22-0 22 KO’s. He had Nigel ducking below the KNEE let alone the waist, and pissing blood for days.

Eubank had a stupidly low output when he was weight-drained, statue-esque

Legit knockdown not counted versus Benn. Like Groves, tremendous one punch hitter, but struggled to land them at top level. Caught Eubank hard with a couple of left hooks to the body.

Don’t think he was the same after the horrible prolonged beating from Eubank.

I remember Wharton coming through on Grandstand punching guys out of the ring with treble left hooks. Many predicted very big for him.

He didn’t do bad. British, Commonwealth, European champ, only lost in world title fights in a good era. Made a lot more money than most of the champions.

Taylor and Groves were not particularly hard punchers. I never saw them display much power.

Benn on the other hand was a frighteningly hard hitter, leaving so many guys head over heels.

I don’t think Benn fully committed to his punches in that one. He had 12 in mind, under strict instruction from Tibbs.

The oft beaten Ian Chantler. Great stoppage, but that punch would have just bounced off of Froch.
