Is Teofimo Lopez undisputed?

Post by Jdburt »

Teofimo is promoted as the undisputed champion when Devin Haney has the wbc lightweight belt. What’s your opinions on this situation? Is he regarded as undisputed in your eyes?

Yes

Vasyl Lomachenko won the WBC Title in his fight prior to facing Teofimo. He was never defeated for that belt. I don't know what the f*ck belt Haney's got, but it's nonsense.

it's a weird situation

loma was the wbc champ, then gets 'upgraded' to franchise, then teo beats him

but then haney has the regular wbc title.....

is teo the franchise champ with the wbc now?

for me undisputed is 4 belts. He dosent have the WBC belt, and i dont count franchise, that simple for me.

But he is the clear top dog at 135, and thats realy what counts.

if he is actually the franchise champ at 135, wouldnt that make him the top guy in the wbc 135 hierarchy , as bizarre of a title that is

Vasyl Lomachenko won the WBC belt, and was never beaten for it until Lopez beat him. Haney's WBC Belt is bullsh*t.

Teofimo is absolutely undisputed.

Don't give any credit to the WBC's nonsense by pretending as if Haney ever actually won their World Title. He didn't. Somebody bought it for him. He never beat the WBC Champion. They just paid money, and got him a vacant title fight. F*ck that. The TV networks can bullsh*t you, but don't bullsh*t yourself.

Belts are dropped all the time, ill admit its weird when you are suposidly elevated, but i dont belive in franchise champ, so if loma wanted to keep the WBC belt he should of refused the franchise shit and kept the real WBC.

I don't believe in Franchise Champ either. Lomachenko was the WBC Champ. He wasn't beaten for that title by Haney. End of discussion.

So is Mauricio Lara world champ? josh warrington never lost his IBF and he beat him this weekend...
Or are AJs belts actualy furys?

Loma WAS the WBC champ, Teo never has been. unless you want to count franchise, which we both agree sucks. its not that important, i respect lopez as much without a WBC belt as i would with one, but for me i dont think it makes it undisputed, Hard to be undisputed when whether your are undisputed or not is often disputed...

ya, i agree with you on that re beating a guy who never lost his belt in the ring doesnt mean you are now that champ, my thing though is if lopez is actually franchise champ then he is technically the highest guy in the wbc isnt he

You're Undisputed if you're the #1 guy and there's no disputing it. I frankly don't give a flying f*ck if someone has all 4 belts or not.

The belts are all bought and sold. They strip guys for no reason. They change their rules for no reason. There's no reason to take the belts seriously.

If someone is the #1 guy in the division. He's the Champion. That's it. There's only 1 Champion.

Of course he does. Because he knows he sold Haney a belt. Why do Boxing fans even take these orgs seriously? Have some respect for your own common sense.

Teo isn’t the undisputed champ, but that doesn’t really matter. He’s the best in his weight class.

It’s sadly wishful thinking to believe Teo is the undisputed champ.

Lopez is not undisputed because there are other major belts from the same sanctioning bodies. Devin Haney has the WBC title and BoxRec does not recognize that Lopez vs. Lomachenko was for the WBC title. BoxRec does not recognize the WBC Franchise belt. Lopez got the WBA super belt at lightweight when he defeated Lomachenko, but Gervonta Davis has the WBA belt. BoxRec recognizes the WBA super belts. Lopez has the IBF and WBO belts, so he is a unified champ, but not undisputed.

Who is lineal to me is to be considered "undisputed".

Haney isn’t much of a dispute... Teo wins that fight in lopsided fashion. He’s undisputed.

It says a lot about the sport when even the diehard fans can’t agree on if someone is ‘undisputed’ or not.

The whole thing is an absolute mess.

It’s a mess but even the WBC tried to correct course at the end and say Loma v. Lopez should be recognized as an undisputed match. Devin Haney is a kid with all sorts of potential but the title he’s running around with is a secondary one.

You can’t say he’s champion because you think he’ll win the fight. He needs to prove it!

That’s not the definition of undisputed though? If it was, lineal and undisputed would be the same thing?

He proved it when he beat Loma who was the actual champion before WBC shenanigans got in the way.

It's a right 'king mess.

From what I recall if you beat the Franchise Champ, you get a title shot at the WBC champ.

Lopez beat the Franchise champ (Loma) and so can now face Haney to become undisputed.

Personally I would prefer to just ignore
WBC
WBA
WBO

And go with IBF as the sole recognized body, as they seem easily the best of a bad bunch.

Teo isn't undisputed, but he is certainly #1 and there is no disputing that.

Teofimo is not undisputed, he is the man of the division however. The WBA, IBF and WBO don't recognize Lopez as the WBC champion so there's a dispute. The franchise title is... who knows what it is.
