Sven Ottke vs Glen Johnson



Ottke beats Johnson by close UD to retain his World Super Middleweight title, terrible fight, close but terrible, mostly jabs exchanged, lack of real quality, hardly any power punches landed by either man, no drama or action, neither could claim to have clearly deserved the win, Ottke was always gonna get the nod in a close fight like this

Sven Ottke vs Robin Reid



Ottke beats Reid by UD to retain his World Super Middleweight titles, an absolute shitshow of a fight, forget about the fact that Reid was robbed on the cards, he outboxed Ottke, countered him with sharp left hooks, even Ottke knew he was losing because he fought with more urgency than usual down the stretch


The referee though was the worst ref ive seen in my life, on Reid's case from the 1st round, just nagging him for 12 rounds whilst ignoring Ottke , Reid would land to the body, he gets tild off for kidney punches, shots land to the head Reid gets warned for hitting with inside of glove, Reid puts Ottke down in the 6th ref rules slip then takes a point off Reid later in round for a phantom head clash, heads came together a few times initiated by Ottke but it was Reid repeatedly warned, Reid couldn't finish strong because he was wary of the ref and it allowed Ottke to pull out the win, horrendous fight to watch, the ref and judges needed shot along with their loved ones

Watched George Foreman vs Frazier 1 George Foreman vs Joe King Roman and George Foreman vs Ken Norton. George was strong hit hard but real telegraphed and threw round looping punches. He was a force to be reckoned with but Muhammad Ali was right when he said George has never really been in a good scuffle yet getting winded and having to reach down.

Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar Larios



Pacquiao beats Larios by UD in a non title Super Featherweight scrap, dropping him twice along the way, good fight plenty fun exchanges, it was close for first 4 rounds, Pacquiao was putting together some quick combos together, Larios putting together some nice shote of his own, Pacquiao pulled away second half though, landing that trademark straight left time and again, he scored a flash KD in the 7th, nice 4 punch combination had Larios down momentarily, Larios heart was impressive but Pacquiao was putting a beating on him, still Larios kept throwing but Pacquiao was in full flow, he dropped Larios with that straight left to seal the deal in the 12th and ran out a clear winner

Carlos Palomino vs Hedgemon Lewis



Fight ends in a draw after 10 rounds, never scored but no real complaints from me, it was a close competitive fight, commentary seemed to have Lewis a clear winner and he did look the more relaxed boxer in there, his jab was sharper and he had better movement, Palomino's worked seemed more forced and although he was mostly on thr front foot wasnt always effective, no drama or talking points though, Lewis did feel a left hook in the 9th but that was about it, both men worked away up close, not always clean action but still a decent watch

The first time I scored this 5-4-1 for Lewis, but here is my latest score. Very close. Anyways, here we go, California scoring in effect. One point for a round and no points for an even round.

Round 8: Palomino (I briefly hesitated between an even round - that close)

I was good with the draw. Even with my original score of 5-4, I was good with the draw. These are some very close rounds where Lewis dominated from the outside and Palomino dominated on the infighting. Good fight. Incidentally, a rematch was scheduled, but Lewis got the offer to fight John Stracey for the title and the only way Aileen Eaton allowed that rematch to be cancelled was for Mickey Duff to agree to sign Carlos Palomino for his next defense of the title in the event that Stracey won. And the rest is history.

Sven Ottke vs Robin Reid

So many of those German shows properly stank the joint out and did much to undermine boxing.
Germany became dodgier than Italy.

Local, defending champion gets totally outboxed but a way is found so he somehow keeps the belt
German TV money, big ticket sales from footie stadium fights or the indoor Halle overcame a lot of boxing sense.

Personally, I loved it when Joe C having smashed Veit to bits in Cardiff accepted the return invitation a bit later and stopped the git again and silenced the crowd and the judges were not needed. Got himself a pension plan too

In the 8th it looked like Palomino was beginning to get on top, Green eye was shut but he kept coming forward, Palomino was starting to make his mark on him, still the end came as a bit of shock in the 11th, Palomino caught Green with a short little right hand on the inside then flattened hom with a left hook and it was all over, great fight terrific effort from Green and a quality finish from Palomino

If you like tough fights to score (which I do) this is a good one. Some very tight rounds here. I actually had 4 even rounds. Green slathers Palomino in thumping shots from beginning to end and although Palomino's workrate isn't up to Green's, he does nail Dave throughout with the sharper shots. Excellent fight.

I wonder how this fight would have turned out if it took place in MSG or Las Vegas or even somewhere else inside the United States. This fight has a very interesting background. George suffered a cut in training so the fight had to be backed up for 6 weeks or so. George was not allowed to leave Africa in fear that he would not return. During this time Ali really got into Georges head and practically turned the whole nation against him. George was not mentally right for a long time after this. Never underestimate the power of the mind.

Alfonso Zamora vs Eusebio Pedroza



Zamora KOs Perdroza in 2 rounds to retain his World Bantamweight title, Zamora much smaller guy but was able to nail the more upright Pedroza with winging left hooks and right hands from the get go, in the 2nd Zamora iced Pedroza with a jab to body then came over with a monster right hand to send Pedroza down heavily, a little left hook caught him on way down, Pedroza made count but his legs were gone and it was waved off

Eusebio Pedroza vs Rocky Lockridge 1+2



Pedroza beats Lockridge by close SD to retain his World Featherweight title, never scored but i thought Lockridge done enough to win, he bullied Pedroza for first 7 rounds, backed him on ropes and pummeled away to head and body, Pedroza's tactics were strange and he was throwing a lot of arm punches while Lockridge got to work and outhustled him, Pedroza hurt a couple times as well when on the ropes, Pedroza finally got to work in the 8th, began showing his quality unloading quick flashy combinations, the bolo punches were effective and the uppercuts in general, Lockridge was tired late and fought through it, think he took 1 or 2 of the later rounds to edge the win but Pedroza got the verdict



Pedroza wins the rematch on points to retain his title, this time via UD, another close bout, last time it was a fight of two halves, this time the action ebbed and flowed, Pedroza quicker off the mark here, he still held his feet too long but dug in the shots to fire it out with Lockridge who fought aggressively as always, Pedroza showed the quality in the exchanges but too many quiet spells allowed Lockridge to get his own shots off, a lot of close rounds tough to score but Pedroza def fought harder this time

McAllinden could have been disqualified so many times or at least had a point taken away for hitting behind the head. Also his people got in the ring before the ref stopped counting Bodell, which could have also lead to a DQ..

Pedroza beats Laporte by UD to retain his World Featherweight title, he def won more rounds but lost 3 points for fouling over the 15, mainly for low blows and use of elbows, could've even been DQ'd, excellent fight, high action, for first 10 rounds neither guy could string 2 rounds together, they just took shots at teeing off on each other, really digging in the punches upstairs and down, Laporte rocked Pedroza in the 3rd with a huge right hand, dipped his knees, it wasnt until the 11th Pedroza took over and pulled away, Laporte was gassed and couldnt keep up with Pedroza who kept firing out the punches, terrific ending to a terrific fight, great inside fighting from both men
