Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
IS this made? if you asked me 2 years ago about this fight in 2021 i would of strongly gone with Hrgovic, but now i think this is a bad fight for him. Hrgovic has put on 20Lbs, got flat footed and fallen in love with a big right hand and fought cans, who has he fought to even remotly prepare him for a high levle guy thats a good mover like hunter..
Its still basicaly a coin toss, anything could happen, but i think hunter moves well enough and hits just hard enough that it might be a rough night for hrgovic, could see this being the generic version of Usyk vs Joyce, except hrgovic almost certainly dosent have the freakish gass tank.

Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
Pls fix poll so I can pick Hunter by Decision. A career-changing fight for the man. Rooting for him 100%.
Apparently this is an eliminator for IBF #1, meaning the winner could be in line to face winner of Fury/Joshua after they defend against Usyk, or, alternatively, fight for a vacant IBF if the WBO mandatory causes them to fight Usyk.
In my opinion anyone managing Joshua and Fury would be silly to keep the WBO belt over the IBF to face Usyk instead.

If this happens its a great matchup
Hunter has faced better opponents but hrgovic has the bigger upside/potential

Hunter by decision.
I’d like for this fight to get made.

Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
Filip by stoppage.
Hunter had a very kindly ref that let him see the final bell against Usyk at cruiser. He got a draw against the ghost of Povetkin in a very close fight. Hrgovic hasn't done anything impressive since he turned over but the dude can fight. Hunter's a fat cruiser. If Hrgovic doesn't up his game and actually meet his potential and perform like he can (or used to) and win this, then he should just retire.
Hunter is the lamest guy with a claim to being a top 10 heavyweight at the moment. Get him gone.

Hunter by decision. Hrg needs to step up but Hunter is too much of a step up based on his competition so far.

Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
I wouldent consider that draw as a negative, for one most think hunter edged it, but also, Pov was past prime but still a beast (pre covid). He gave AJ a tough first 6, Beat hughie comfortably, and sparked out dillian whyte. That version of Pov isnt what he was but still knocks out hrgovicss entire resume in one afternoon...Cyclops wrote: ↑24 Feb 2021, 01:55 Filip by stoppage.

Hrgovic retire if he dosent beat hunter? why, still could be a top 20 tallent making good cash, not everyone has to be world number 1.
Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
Hunter is more proved, but I think, there will be an upset.

Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
Hrgovic by dominant UD or late stoppage. Hunter is very mediocre.
Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
Hunter has consistency proved he's nothing special. He's not a proper heavyweight in terms of the 6'5 plus boys, and he already had his arse handed to him by the best smallest elite heavy in Usyk. Povetkin is shot to bits. The fact he banged out Whyte just shows he's an experienced dude not to be looked over, but still isn't ever going to be a world champion. Just like Whyte, who is only slightly a level above gatekeeper Chisora. I really hope this fight comes off and Hrgovic shows his full potential and stops Hunter. I rank Hunter top 10 at heavy but I do it very begrudgingly. This is a guy whose main claim to fame is not getting stopped by Usyk, even though there's an argument he should have been.gregregegg wrote: ↑24 Feb 2021, 04:19I wouldent consider that draw as a negative, for one most think hunter edged it, but also, Pov was past prime but still a beast (pre covid). If Hgoivich wins it just makes the top ten look more credible, I love heavyweight and think it's a great era, but when I look at the top ten I start to question myself. A few uninspiring fighters in there. These old dudes need to be shoved out of the picture.

Hrgovic's first top 10 victim, Hunter zero chances

Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
Given Hunter's draw against Povetkin, I think this man is a beast. Hrgovic might be a good prospect, but how can I pick him over Hunter at this stage? Like, Povetkin knocked Whyte out. At this point, there's only like four guys I would pick as favorites against Hunter.
Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
Whyte is a very flawed fighter though with hardly any amateur background. If you look at it his best wins are Parker, where he benefitted from an unintentional headbutt that scrambled the Kiwi for rounds and then still almost got KO'd at the end, Chisora twice who he went life and death with, an old exposed Helenius, Browne who was never really very good and got stopped by Dave Allen, and Rivas who despite being on his best list of wins I had never really heard of before.Lackeos wrote: ↑25 Feb 2021, 23:40 Given Hunter's draw against Povetkin, I think this man is a beast. Whyte was pounding Povetkin from pillar to post but still was raw enough to let Povetkin back in. It doesn't matter that Povetkin had the ring IQ to land that shot, he's still 90% a punchbag. It was a big upset for a reason.
My money will be on Hrg.

Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
If the Povetkin version of Michael Hunter faces the same man that delivered lacklustre performances against Rydell Booker and Eric Molina, then Filip Hrgovic loses by decision. He'll just get out-worked, it's as simple as that!
That said, I really can't help thinking that Hrgovic has been coasting and is capable of much more, so he deserves to be the favourite against Michael Hunter.
So I'm kind of on the fence about this one, because Hrgovic has got a phenomenal reputation and occasionally looked good in the pro ranks.
However, he often underperforms and is clearly very beatable (based on his losses in the amateurs and the WSB - Tony Yoka [twice], Mihai Nistor, Magomed Omarov, Roberto Cammarelle, Ivan Dychko, Gadzhi Murtazaliev, Joe Joyce, Viktar Zuyeu and Vitaly Kudukhov).
He hasn't got Golovkin's or Lomachenko's pedigree, where we knew for certain these guys were great early on, when they initially entered the paid ranks! And he hasn't achieved much as a pro either.
So I still favour Hrgovic to potentially bully and score a late stoppage over Hunter, but I don’t really have any confidence in my prediction, based on the Croatians seemingly inconsistent form.
In my mind, Hrgovic is kind of like James Toney, in that he’s much akin to a Forrest Gump style box of chocolates, because you’re never quite sure what version of Filip is going to enter the ring.

Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
Hunter can take a good punch too. Went the distance and almost defeated Pov. Not just a draw, but a split draw where he even won on one card 115-113 (and avg boxrec scored it this way). He was one point away on Glen Feldman’s card from a career-changing win. He also went the distance with Usyk at cruiser and took some good shots doing it. Guy can take a punch, and he’s not feather-fisted. Good boxer.
I’m rooting for him!

Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
it will be telling to see how hunter deals with something like big hrg leaning on him and clubbing him behind the head, if he can deal with that type of physicality from the bigger man
i think hunter can score and win the rounds if he can, but it's possible that filly is just too strong for him and can grind him down

Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
I've not seen much of Hrgovic, but from what I have seen, it doesn't tally up with some of the hype he gets.
Big guy, can punch, but he isn't particularly fast nor does anything out of the ordinary.
Hunter is cagey and technically very good, and awkward. He could have the speed and iq to win rounds outboxing the big man, so long as he can avoid any big, looping shots.

I can already see after Hrgovic's victory, Iron Lady will say he defeated a fat cruiserweight hahaha
Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
Rooting for Hunter, he has dominated and put away much stronger and bigger guys (I also had him up against Povetkin by 2 points).

Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
Hrgovic is going to win easily, the only question is how soon. Too big, durable, powerful and with good skills and speed.
Hunter is going to be covering up and trying to counter, thing is Hrgovic has a great chin, and will welcome one to land his own.
After this, Hrgrovic gets a shot with Joshua, who might drop his belt to avoid Hrgovic IF he beats Fury,
Best guess. Hrgovic via 9th round TKO. If Hunter comes to fight it will end much sooner.

Re: Michael Hunter vs. Filip Hrgovic
Then you have not seen him fight. Hrgovic has pretty fast hands for a big guy, no one has made him miss yet. His accuracy is excellent. For a guy 6'6 245lbs with and 82" reach, Hrgovic is a skilled super heavyweight. He goes to the body well and has an inside game, which for the really big guys is semi rare.Fightnight Scores wrote: ↑27 Feb 2021, 04:34 I've not seen much of Hrgovic, but from what I have seen, it doesn't tally up with some of the hype he gets.

Never down as a pro or amateur and battle tested as a young lad vs Wilder, Haye and Klitschko in the gym with favorable results as an amateur, he's the heir apparent. Never mind the bronze Olympic medial, he was robbed in the Yoka fight. He won it 2-1. Otherwise he's fighting for gold.
