End of April PPV

Post by maverick23 »

Eddie did an interview with IFL yesterday and he seems pretty set on there being a Sky Ppv at the end of April.

He mentioned 4 world title fights and the strongest card he’s done.

I’m guessing he’s looking to do Warrington vs Xu on it, a Katie Taylor fight. Also a non-title Buatsi fight.

Any thoughts on the other 2 world title fights?

I think it’s a bad idea. Whilst FW’s magnificent 7 shows had some pretty good fights on them (I went to the first one in Birmingham) they seemed to sell really poorly on PPV.

That’s what I thought initially but I think most of Matchroom’s female world champs are in fights before then.

It is impossible for it to be one of the strongest cards he has ever done.

Not a chance of Joshua or Saunders and Eddie hasn't got another UK World Champ who does 3 minute rounds.

Buatsi v Johnson a possibility? As said above it literally cannot be one of his strongest cards due to availability.

He said he wanted to do that in the summer after giving them both a fight beforehand.

Last two 'best cards ever' that Hearn has pronounced in 2019 and 2020.

Josh Taylor Vs Regis Prograis (someone else's fight) with Price/Chisora and Burns/Selby.....

PLUS

Mikey Garcia Vs Jesse Vargas
Yafai Vs Gonzalez
Harris Vs Martinez

Nothing wrong with either. But just so we are clear on what happens with this type of announcement...........

Though that would be the case, same with the Fowler/Fitzgerald rematch I guess. Really not sure who he has lined up for this show.

Trying to think which men he get ‘world title’ fights for...

Chisora vs Bryan?
McCarthy or Riakporhe for the WBC or WBA belts?
Yafai or Paul Butler for a vacant title at bantamweight or superfly if one becomes available.
Eubank vs Murata?

There really isn’t much outside of Warrington/Xu.

Eubank Jr could be a possibility yeah, talk of Murata v GGG later in the year but who knows. It's a long time since Eubank Jr fought isn't it, mid 2019 v Korobov? That ended prematurely too due to an injury to Korobov.

At super-middle, Canelo is WBA champ. Morrell jnr is WBA interim champ.
There's whispers of WBA Gold champ Chudinov fighting Ryder

Also Tennyson v Burns rumoured.
Galahad v Dickens??

I’m pretty sure that the talk is Ryder vs Morrell for the regular. Decent fight but it’s not for a proper world title.

Tennyson v Burns is a good fight but not for a proper world title. Eddie mentioned that Tennyson may try for an IBO but pushing that as a proper world title is hard sell even for him.

Galahad/Dickens may be a goer. In the current market having a legitimate world title fight for £150k is fairly cheap.

Nope. Pretty sure that would have been the headline fight with Richards/Bivol, Katie Taylor and one other.

Surely it can’t be a ppv now.

My original thoughts were Brook vs Khan with a "stacked card"...but I think that would need to be more rumoured by now.

Hasnt Galahad moved to pbc or someone now? Cant see Galahad and Hearn working together for a bit

Hearn would want longer to promote the Brook/Khan fight so can’t see that happening in April.

No - Galahad’s not joined PBC. MTK won the purse bid for his title match against Dickens so Hearn could have gone for that but won’t now on a PPV card. Warrington had some big wins, was considered by most to be the number 1 in the world and Eddie owed him one hence the likely thought process behind looking to do a PPV.

Chisora Vs Parker is a stretch to headline a PPV event. Hearn's got enough front to try his luck though.

I wouldn't be that pleased as a normal Saturday fight night.

Parker/Chisora as a bill topper does nothing for me, it'll probably do decent numbers though

They’re clearly going for depth rather than one big fight. Time will tell if it’s worthwhile.

I really enjoyed FW’s first magnificent seven show but apparently the PPV numbers were shite and the arena was only half full. Whether we like it or not Chisora vs Parker is a bigger fight than any on that show.

The show’s being formally announced later along with the first few fights.

From what I’ve been told it’s the following...

Parker vs Chisora
Taylor vs Jonas
Bivol vs Richards
Eubank Jr vs Marcus Morrison

The Eubank Jr fight is an awful one, Bivol/Richards looks to be a mismatch and I think Taylor easily beats Jonas.

Tyan Booth beat Morrison didn't he if I remember rightly? Very underwhelming fight for Eubank Jr after a long time out of the ring.
