Amazing. I look forward to many other fighters taking this approach. No longer is there any need to face your peers in the ring, instead avoid them at all costs and then come out years later to explain how you would have fought them :brick:

Let's hope the likes of Davis, Garcia, Haney and Lopez following the genius of Eubank and opt not to face each other and instead just talk when they're retired about how they would have beaten the others
Always one to find the negative eh mate?

Instead of seeing it as a great approach to fight a rangey slickster, if any youngsters or trainers may be reading. Eubank didn’t fight like this against Gary Stretch or Dan Schommer, maybe wishes he did with the latter, and v Calzaghe his knees were gone

Not in the slightest, I just find it deeply ironic that you are lauding Eubank's genius, when he is talking about how to tackle the very same fighters he opted not to face.
And as for the "I had moves that you never saw because it was never brought out of me" please just give me a break - it would be a lot easier to rewrite that as: "I had moves that you never saw because I chose not to face the fighters that would have brought them out of me."

Yep, defeated second rate (or third rate) opposition and called himself "Simply The Best" without facing the top rated fighters...
You must also think that Lucian Bute was THE BEST during The Super Six - they all avoided him, when he was beating Brian Magee, JP Mendy and Jesse Brinkley...

As Chris said at the time, he was ‘the man’ and if you wanted a shot you had to become number one contender or he was not obliged. This man was a professional.

So... Do you concede that Chris defended his title against inferior opposition?

That is an interesting train of thought... Now let's bring it forward in time to the present day.

All things being equal and keeping that train of thought - how would you see Josh Taylor's decision to fight Ramirez for all four World Championships?

Crease, excellent post with the Lucian Bute comparison avoiding the Super six tournament :TU:

There was a man who hid himself in Canada trouncing second raters only to to be subjected to one of the most ruthless exposès in recent history by the fists of Carl Froch.

A Super Six would’ve been a dream for Eubank back then, all that guaranteed money even if you lose. Hugely fortunate was Frochy bless him.

He’s 30 odd so he might as well give it a go? I’m sure he has plenty of money, a humble lifestyle and financial advisers around him.

You are probably right, it really would have. Because it would allow the likes of RJJ, Toney, Nunn, Liles - them top four (and two others) to all fight against each other and deal out Ws and Ls...

Whilst all that is happening, Chris would happily sit in England and defend his belt against the likes of Sam Storey and think nothing of it...

Eubank would have avoided a tournament like that like the black death...

Wow!

Your lack of enthusiasim is startling... I should think that any fan of our sport would be delighted to see the best two fighters of ANY weight division face each other in their primes...
Regardless of favourtism, surely their boldness, their sense of adventure, their willingness to risk it all to make the biggest fight happen... Does it not deserve your respect and admiration?

It's only a shame that you cannot muster the same passion for a man who is voluntarily risking his two World Championships to face his best competitor in his weight class...

He fought for money and acclaim, so there’s no way he’d of let an opportunity to be spoilt rotten like that up - that’s ludicrous.

I personally think Eubank would of avoided a Super 6 like the plague.

He’d of probably got a punditry job telling the viewers how he’d beat them and not understand the irony.

He’d of made more money from a Super 6 - and a loss wouldn’t matter in the slightest! It would’ve been a dream, with fights spaced 6 months apart. Pure luxury for Eubank.

Hence why he pulled out the stops to get Jr into it, and now Sr lives comfortably again driving Bentleys because of it.

Let’s not forget he signed the 3-fight deal with King in Aug93 to face Nunn, Terry Norris and whoever was left (McClellan, Reggie Johnson, Julian Jackson, Benn again etc) if he kept winning after Benn II and Wharton (WBC mandatory set for Dec93). Why? Because the money was dream money for that time, and if anyone lost King said they could come back and go again!

After the draw, King said Benn was going to be getting the big fights and big money because he still had the WBC belt. He wanted Eubank to face Reggie Johnson for no more money than he made facing John Jarvis, on a Benn undercard. Had Benn lost, Benn was going to go down to middle to face Julian Jackson for vacant WBC title for big money (with McClellan coming up).

So Chris decided to main event in Germany for bigger money instead, on the first ever fight there on premium TV and PPV (Premiere).

He was a national hero overnight after Rocchigiani (after being the most despised man in Sport for years). So he sure made the right choice. Then came the Sky deal on the strength of it, as Sky were considering pulling out of boxing even before Lewis was taken out. They chucked money at Eubank in a last ditch attempt to save boxing on Sky, and more dishes were sold and more viewers drawn in. Now look.

The only regret in his career was the accident at White Hart Lane.

There were far too many political barriers back in the early 90s. For instance you were either Arum (ABC/HBO/TVKO) or King (Showtime), or Terrestrial TV or Sky. You were either US, UK or EU based etc. No internet or social media. The nation was calling for Eubank v Benn, Watson and Wharton. Germany was calling for Eubank. The US was not.

He’d of made buttons facing Toney or Jones in the US compared to Graciano, Close II and the Sky ‘world tour’ package.

They weren’t stars in their own country - Nunn-Toney did about 50,000 buys on TVKO for instance. Arum stated on ITV that Eubank had too much of an awkward style that would make Nunn and Toney look bad when he was trying to build them on his new PPV platform. This was when Eubank was calling for Toney and Nunn.

Hatton and Froch were extremely lucky $$$

Naz took it to the next level. Chris was very fortunate to appear on his undercards.
