Sky moved Eubank’s fight (vs Calzaghe) last to the main event because they felt he was a bigger attraction than Naz. He was paid peanuts by Warren for it (300K compared to Naz’s 3M). He’d of made buttons facing Toney or Jones in the US compared to Graciano, Close II and the Sky ‘world tour’ package.
They weren’t stars in their own country - Nunn-Toney did about 50,000 buys on TVKO for instance. Arum stated on ITV that Eubank had too much of an awkward style that would make Nunn and Toney look bad when he was trying to build them on his new PPV platform. This was when Eubank was calling for Toney and Nunn.

Wanted 10 fights in 93, including unifying all four belts. Puts today’s fighters to shame wanting to fight every 4-5 weeks.

Naz benefitted from Eubank’s lead MASSIVELY. It was Eubank who opened the floodgates for him, and Floyd who then tried to emulate Naz.

That’s what he stated? Why wouldn’t he? He was running out of opponents badly and already had millions and mansions. Arum went on ITV’s 1992 year-end show saying he would not put Nunn, Toney or Barkley in with him though. So that article you shared says it all - "Eubank, who has been criticised for meeting only weak opposition" - but he claims he wants to face Toney, Nunn etc but then if you look at his record from that point on he faced the likes of Lindell Homes, Ray Close, Mauricio Amaral and Sam Storey. Bar facing Benn again he did nothing to back up these claims.
The bottom line is that in nearly 3 years he didn't face Toney, Nunn, Jones or McClellan - those are facts you can't argue with and will always ensure his legacy will be tarnished. What he claimed he wanted fades into meaningless insignificance.

All those impossible political barriers were broken down by Deserter from a minor internet board thing clicking his fingers.
Re: Chris Sr - post-90s suck!
I am absolutely convinced that you are Chris Eubank Sr. Only the man himself would spend so much time and effort talking about himself.
It was informative speaking to you, Mr Eubank. I thought you would have given Steve Collins more credit for defeating you twice... I'm interested to hear your thoughts of Ray Close. Ray give you some majorly hard fights....
Re: Chris Sr - post-90s suck!
dear oh dear, this poor attempt at deflection is worse than Eubank opting to face Camilo Alacron! Say what you want about me as it doesn't bother me in the slightest, but more importantly it doesn't change the facts about Eubank's career.coghaugen11 wrote: ↑07 Mar 2021, 13:22 All those impossible political barriers were broken down by Deserter from a minor internet board thing clicking his fingers.
It's funny how those same "impossible political barriers" didn't prevent the likes of Benn and Toney from seeking out meaningful fights that helped establish their legacy. The bottom line is that they weren't impossible if he had wanted them badly enough. As you've already said yourself, he was focused on money rather than legacy, so stop tying yourself in knots and contradicting yourself by trying to make out he wanted those fights but politics prevented them being made. This kind of fan-boy behaviour doesn't reflect well on you; you're too old for this sort of nonsense.

Benn didn’t seek out McClellan. He was presented it by King, both fighters were under his banner. Toney and Jones were under Arum’s. Hence we never saw Benn-Jones.
Eubank had been out retired for two years and was just getting back into the swing of things when he picked Alarcon as a comeback opponent, as well as training himself, managing himself and promoting the whole event. Try again.
Note the paragraphing.

While your knowledge of how to use paragraphs correctly is clearly very limited (much like your ability to conduct a rational debate on Eubank), I won't allow that to distract from the matter in hand.coghaugen11 wrote: ↑07 Mar 2021, 14:50Use paragraphs please, we aren’t reading this.Deserter wrote: ↑07 Mar 2021, 13:56dear oh dear, this poor attempt at deflection is worse than Eubank opting to face Camilo Alacron! You can keep on trying to slice and dice this as many times as you like, but the simple fact remains that Eubank spent years fighting the likes of Sam Storey and didn't face the best in and around his division. This is simply not open to dispute.
Oh and for someone clearly so obsessed with Eubank, it's somewhat concerning that you think Alarcon was a comeback opponent after two years out, when boxrec clearly shows that he faced him just five months after fighting the mighty Luis Barrera (a fight which itself was just over a year after losing to Collins for the second time). If anyone needs to "try again" I'd suggest it might well be you rather than me based on your tenuous grasp of the reality of Eubank's career...

This was presumably just a few years after he went undercover to win the Falklands War for us by training the SAS in better footwork and a few years before he managed to persuade the factions in Northern Ireland to sign the Good Friday agreement?

13 months is an absurd amount of time for a fighter to be out of the ring, and he clearly lost 11 out of 12 rounds of the Collins rematch, retired and stopped training.Deserter wrote: ↑07 Mar 2021, 15:30While your knowledge of how to use paragraphs correctly is clearly very limited (much like your ability to conduct a rational debate on Eubank), I won't allow that to distract from the matter in hand.coghaugen11 wrote: ↑07 Mar 2021, 14:50Use paragraphs please, we aren’t reading this.Deserter wrote: ↑07 Mar 2021, 13:56

Admirably succinct post, Mr Deserter... Short, sweet and straight to the facts, that's the best way.

I don't know if that is true, but I hope that he is. such an exciting fighter to watch, really enjoyed watching him. Although I admit when it came down to it, I was rooting for Wayne McCullough to beat him... But The Prince was too good on the night.
