Liam Smith has a big fight coming up in Russia (says Eddie)

Post by Goodz »

But won't reveal the opponent. Hmm

I know Bakhram Murtazaliev is IBF mandatory so maybe it's him. Or Magomed Kurbanov whos high up in some organisations ratings also. Tim Tszyu bases himself in Australia so I doubt it's him. I'm guessing it's an interim title fight or final eliminator.

Did some digging.

It's Magomed Kurbanov in a WBO eliminator

Tough good fight. I see it as a 50/50.

I hope it comes off for Liam as he needs to be more active.

Just seen an interview with Joe Gallagher. It looks like Liam Smith has left Joe and is now training with Manny Robles. Whilst I think it’s probably a good decision if what Joe says is correct (he does talk quite a bit of shite) and Smith didn’t tell him himself then it’s not great form.

I wouldn't think that Gallagher is making things up

Neither would I but I’m also loath to 100% trust someone who called someone else racist just because they could agree a deal during a pandemic.

Think the inactivity will cost Smith here

I don’t understand the leaving without telling the trainer. He’s not a 16 yo leaving a call centre job.

And this was the point a lot of us made here in the peak times of the pandemic. It’s clear Eddie and Frank couldn’t pay what they usually paid so boxers had to be willing to tighten their belts. Guys like Lyndon Arthur, Joe Joyce and several of the guys who fought during the fight camp weeks have all come out the pandemic in a prime position. Those who took the ‘I’m not fighting for less I can pull a crowd’ stance like Josh Warrington and some of Joe Gallaghers fighters are now left holding their dicks.

Agreed although there’s two sides to every story.

It’s very common, even in the ams. I’ve seen trainers more cut up than they have been by divorce!

The pro trainers should never take it personally as money is a big part of it. Amateur trainers on the other hand will always take it personally as they do it for the love and have most definitely given up their time and money to bring the boxers to the level they are at, to get left is a kick in the teeth. Il never knock a fighter for leaving me but what I won’t stand for is if they go about it the wrong way

Good trainers will tell the boxer to tell the ex trainer and clear it there’s no hard feelings. It’s too small a circuit.

I’d see that as a character flaw in the boxers, especially if they’re over 16-18. How hard is a phone call.

Smith is 32 years old. He's been with Gallagher years. He's got time to do a Zoom interview from LA but he hasn't spoken to Joe? It does make him look like a piece of work.
Gallagher also said he hadn't heard from Callum for a while.

Is this the guy who was supposed to fight Mosley before he had to retire?

Is it a coincidence Smith has finally got work?

Joe made a point that Liam and Callum haven't been in touch and some of you are saying that is wrong. That works both ways. even more so with Joe because he is their coach/trainer and also taking a slice of their pie.

It's down to him be keeping in touch.

Eddie's got one more fight with Canelo and thinks he can play God?

The gym is open. There's been no reports of the Smiths being barred.

On another note I think Gallaghers style suited Liam Smith the most out of all his fighters
