The sort of structure that allowed Watson and Eubank to fight for the WBO's vacant Super middleweight belt, usurping the previous top two and even though they'd not been fighting in the division?
I agree the Leonard fight was a circus and I didn't like it.
Giminez and Essett actually disappeared from the rankings! Replaced at 1 and 2 by Eubank and Watson after Tommy Hearns relinquished for the Barkley rematch.

Eubank beat them in defences though so. Giminez pulled out initially, replaced by Jarvis.

They flocked every other month for 5yrs in the hopes of seeing Eubank get beat. Absolute genius. He realised they would pay top dollar at the box office to see him knocked off his perch. Almost panto but gladiator-like.

How did he end up bankrupt on undercards?

This thread should be renamed: "The Chris Eubank Thread".

All of these Chris Eubank sympathisers could use this thread as word porn

What?? He was declared bankrupt a couple of years ago. Eubanks career was in like the late 80s matey.

He lost, twice to Collins. When there was actual structure in boxing. Couldn’t regain a title, gave his all though.

I genuinely never thought that I would see British fan fights be so absolutely blind and deluded about any fighter. Let alone one who retired over two decades ago.

Where has this cult-like worships emerged from? It's hard to fathom. It's amazing that they would even ignore the words of their messiah himself, when he admitted that boxing was a mug's game and that he was taking the path of least resistance.

The only think that I can compare it too is these casual boxing fans in America. Most of those crazy yanks think that Floyd is the best thing from spliced bread and wouldn't hear a disparaging word about him... They won't accept that the Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto fights was highly strange matchmaking...

For these cretins, it's not enough to say that Floyd is the no 1 fighter P4P of all time.... They try to force their beliefs on everyone else... Think it's a similar thing going on here...

Contradicting yourself here. They were in the same weight division at the same time, so a fight was always an option. It ceased becoming an option when Eubank gave his famous interview saying he would never defend against Graham. His reasoning was;
"Why would you fight a man that you cant hit?"

I am struggling to understand some of the Eubank sympathisers grievances here. What do you want the rest of us to do? Give Eubank credit for taking the fight? Because that's never going to happen, it's just factually inaccurate. Also, listen to the man's own words - he did NOT want to fight Herol.... That's the end of the story when it comes to a potential Eubank vs Graham bout...

He said in 97 that when he said those things about boxing he was young, and was doing too much of it to enjoy - no break, media on top of him etc

He contradicts himself because he said he’d ‘have to’ face Graham in a unification if Graham beat Jackson, or he ‘couldn’t live with himself’ - prefight Probox version. Also admitted Graham outboxed him in sparring one and a half years before, but ‘12 championship rounds is a long time with the pressure of the night and nervous energy and what not, you know......He’s a genius, a master boxer but I think I can beat him’

In another interview before the Jackson-Graham fight Eubank said Graham had ‘been in my sights for three years now and I now believe I am now ready for him’ and apologised he couldn’t say more because he had stitches in his tongue. In the same interview he said he didn’t fancy facing Michael Nunn because he’s 6’3” and judges in America might favour their own, however on the subject of facing Steve Collins in Boston in a 1st defence - ‘Line them up and I’ll take them out’

Eubank had the belt 6 days before Herol got KO'd. If he'd won the fight the Eubank fight might have happened.
I'm not a sympathiser. I'm just being fair. I knew Herol at the time and the Eubank fight was never really there for him.

It would’ve happened.
Eubank would lose the first 6 rounds.
Graham would choke late.

coghaugen11 wrote: 09 Mar 2021, 10:56Also Toney, Jones, Nunn and Liles weren’t champions at the same time. Toney lost to Jones and Nunn lost to Steve Little.

I have been waiting and wondering if you would respond to this. It has took you long enough...
So, Chris was Super Middleweight Champ between Sept 91 to March 95

Going through the four guys (in chronological order) they had their Super Middleweight reigns:
Nunn was Sept 92 to Dec 94 (He was at the weight class six years before moving up division)
Toney Feb 93 to Nov 94 (and his entire Middleweight campaign before that when Eubank was down there too)
RJJ was Nov 94 to Nov 96 (and he stayed at Light Heavy until 2003)
Liles was Aug 94 to June 99 (that's nearly five years as Champ that Eubank could have fought him for his title)

So, looking at the facts they WERE ALL Champions at the weight class the same time as Chris....
coghaugen11 wrote: 09 Mar 2021, 10:56Eubank’s opinion in 93 was that he, Nunn and Toney were joint equal best in the division ahead of Benn. He wasn’t far wrong.
But... We will never know... Why? Because Chris would NOT fight them... And that is actually the point... Which you seem to keep missing.

Are you ok in the head!? I’m genuinely worried.

You clearly stated they were the top four in the division - never were three of the four an alphabet champion at the same time. Unless you actually unify then you can’t be classed above another, because it’s not real.

Why do you persist with quoting Eubank about fights that never happened?
How is that even logical?

I actually give up with you. I’ve clearly stated how Bob Arum and Don King put up the political barriers when Eubank tried facing Toney and Nunn. He wasn’t a big enough name in America and get this - neither were they!

Are you demented? Eubank has proven his integrity, he’s not just going to say things for the sake of it - where’s the logic in that? You’d look a fool if you did that and proved otherwise. He tried, he wasn’t let in. Pro boxing is a business, not a sport I’m sorry to say

I don’t appreciate internet trolls. Man up, find a job or hobby or something. What do you actually get from it, trolling internet boards? Weird.

You're probably right. That's why Toney was able to fight RJJ and Nunn. And Nunn fighting Liles....
It was all to do with political factors...
The American promoters were probably scared of Chris going over and wasting their boys...
It had nothing to do with cowardice on Eubank's fault... Even though he described fighting them as "a form of suicide"
