Completely sours the world cup, which was shit anyway, Italians in 2006 the worst team to win the WC ever? A poor way to win it too (I know Brazil did the same in 94 but at least they dominated the game), other than the semi Italy were dull as dishwater. They were lucky not to play an attacking side - Brazil/Argies/even England all would have taken them imo
As for MM ban him and nut him in the nose next time, what a POS.

Yeah I agree with that.knockout wrote:Allez zizou!!!!
after all the anti racism effort, if MM did say this he should be banned for a lengthy time!!!
We are all sitting here judging ZZ but everyone has a breaking point... he may be the greatest footballer of his generation but he is also a human being......
Anyway he hasnt diminished his legacy one bit in my eyes, he just lost the opportunity to further his legacy with another WC win!!!!
But seems to me the French and UK press are just desperately trying to come up with excuses for The Great One, in order to justify his headbutting the bloke, and so preserve the legend in all it's purity.
Arab Terrorist...insult to his dying mum - popular theory seems to be it was the WORST possible insult known to mankind, and ZZ was well within his rights to dish out a glasgow handshake.
Well, whatever - let's wait to hear from the man himself - but I doubt he'll come up with a better excuse than that already offered by our lipreading press.
George Bush lover maybe??

I'm afraid you are wrong, and they don't come 'from the mountains.' The berbers are a genetically distinct group who cover several regions of north Africa, and they are not Arabs. Arabs are those originating from the Arabian peninsula, who have dispersed across various regions. Berbers are descended from the north east of Africa.harrygreb wrote:BERBERS ARE ARABS.
THEY COME FROM MOUNTAIN REGIONS BUT ARE STILL ARABS
Berber's are not a single group of course, but rather various tribes who share a common culture, there are berber-arab tribes who have mixed heritage, but berber's are not arabs. They are predominantly muslim, but this is not the same thing as being an Arab, as there are christian and even jewish arabs.

Wasnt it a certain Frenchman who lept into the crowd and kicked a mouthy fan, seems the French are a pretty fiery lot - Had the same been said to me I would have probably laughed, I dont speak a word of Italian so I wouldnt have understood him - Had it been said in English I would have waited gone to his dressing room afterwards and belted the shit out of him.

From the quarter finals on, the world cup went downhill. Argentina Portugal was an absolute cracker.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Completely sours the world cup, which was shit anyway, Italians in 2006 the worst team to win the WC ever? So everyone who insults someone on a pitch deserves to get headbutted?jamesmcdonnell wrote:Well, I guess Zidane probably speaks pretty good Italian having lived there for the last few years.
Bet he wishes he'd head butted him right in the face now.
Looks as if most people have got Matarazzi down as guilty, seems to be the easy way out, not the fact that Zidane does have a past history at lashing out.

Zidane is a marketing machine worth millions to various companies who sponser him, Matarazzi is a run of the mill centreback worth next to nothing to top companies.
Fifa have launched an inquiry into the incident, they will i'm sure have lots of top companies encouraging FIFA to come up with the right result to protect Zidane's image. this is just my opinion.

Whoops, sorry, meant Argentina v Mexico, that's one of the best games I've ever seen at international level, absolute non stop running and passing from both sides, the level of skill of both teams on the ball made England look like Doncaster Rovers.

everyone who tells this kind of insult diserves much worse than a headbutt...topper123 wrote:So everyone who insults someone on a pitch deserves to get headbutted?jamesmcdonnell wrote:Well, I guess Zidane probably speaks pretty good Italian having lived there for the last few years.

So i'm not condeming a person without complete evidence.
Its a hard one to call, 2 wrongs don't make a right, Zidane should say that violence like that is wrong, I await good evidence that Matarazzi said the things he's accused of. If he is guilty then i support whatever punishment is given him.

I think they should stage a fight between the two of them. Zidane can come into the ring on a big berber rug, smoking a hookah and wearing curly slippers and pelt the Mattarazi with felafel, whilst Matarazzi can hurl overipe tomatoes at him whilst grabbing his balls incessantly and tying and retying his sweater round his shoulders.
England would have taken Italy? Haha. Like they took a piss poor Sweden side? And an equally bad Portugese side? Come on the Italians were way way better than England.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Completely sours the world cup, which was shit anyway, Italians in 2006 the worst team to win the WC ever? Yes. They do deserve to be headbutted. Why do so many people think taunting, teasing what ever you want to call it is no big deal? But oh my god lash out at the taunter and its horrible. Zidane from all accounts didnt just walk up and headbutt the guy for the hell of it. Matarazzi deserves the blame for instigating the situation.topper123 wrote:So everyone who insults someone on a pitch deserves to get headbutted?jamesmcdonnell wrote:Well, I guess Zidane probably speaks pretty good Italian having lived there for the last few years.

Insults happen everyday, Zidane played for years in Italian football, he must have heard similar insults back then, but for some reason he went for the guy giving it out. Zidane has played in 3 world cups and got sent off for violent conduct in 2 of them. He's been the best player in the world for years IMO, but he also has to be accountable when he's wrong as well.RobD wrote:Yes. They do deserve to be headbutted. I manage a local football team here, and i won't stand for any racism, if i hear any player insult someone in that way and the ref hasn't heard it, I sub them off and let them know in language that they can understand that i won't stand for that, if they don't like it , then they can play for someone else.

Zidane has butted and stamped on players before.
He probably was insulted....probably doesn't do anything or even mention it afterward if France are ahead.
I think he was getting frustrated and knowing it was his last big game just thought "fornicate it".
IMO he's played everyone for a fool and there shouldn't be any attempt to rationalise violent assualts on the pitch.

Both as bad as eachother....game if your bored at work..From wikipedia

Since both players refused to comment on the incident, there are various allegations about what led to Zidane's violent outburst. His agent, Alain Migliaccio has claimed that a "very serious" comment by Materazzi provoked the attack.[7] Reportedly, the deaf forensic lip-reader Jessica Rees was employed to analyze the video sequences with the help of an Italian translator. According to these reports, Materazzi spoke in Italian - a language understood by Zidane due to his time spent with Juventus F.C. - and first told him: "Hold on, wait, that one's not for a person like you." As the players walked forward, Materazzi allegedly said: "We all know you are the son of a terrorist whore." Then, just before the headbutt, he was seen saying: "So just f*** off." [8] [9] According to Brazilian TV Rede Globo, a lip-reader claimed that Materazzi twice called Zidane's sister a prostitute.[10] Earlier claims about Materazzi having called his opponent a "dirty terrorist" have been denied by Materazzi, who reportedly said: "It is absolutely not true, I did not call him a terrorist. I'm ignorant. I don't even know what the word means."
