Can anyone tell me (or provide a link) if Ring Magazine has a dedicated archive?

I am writing about race in boxing as it was reported in the magazine since it first edition, and I have a digital subscription, but I can't find an archive that it searchable by edition/fighter/year etc, etc.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

They don't have a digital archive sadly.

It would be a fantastic resource if they did digitise every issue from when it started to the present edition.

A couple of years back I e-mailed then editor Nigel Collins with an idea. Since Ebony/Jet had digitalized their entire library, why couldn't Ring Mag do the same? I suggested that for anyone who takes out a subscription, they immediately gain access to the library. I mean, it sounds like a win-win doesn't it? Their subscription orders would go through the roof and we would not only receive the magazine but access to every magazine since its inception. Whether he was just too lazy to consider it or miffed that it wasn't his idea, I don't know. He sent me some BS reply that it couldn't be done at this time. I just looked at it and said, 'Whatever!' But I'm glad others like you guys have the interest in something like this.

It isn't on-line, but there is a significant holding of past issues of "The Ring" (and other magazines focused on boxing) at the University of Notre Dame. You might want to google the Joyce Sports Research Collection, which is part of the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections at Notre Dame's Hesburgh Library.

I don't know if it might help but you could go on the Boxrec wiki encyclopedia page and find all of the Ring magazine covers which are shown there. Maybe the covers might reveal a relevant headline or a story within the particular issues.
I was quite interested to see that currently listed on ebay.com is a 1934 Ceferino Garcia poster that shows on the undercard a fight billed as 'Gene O'Grady - White, Salinas vs. Ralph Norwood - Colored (sic), Los Angeles.'

Thats a good idea, I'd certainly be more inclined to sign up if they offered all the back issues online. In this day and age there is no reason why it can't be done, the technology is there.

It was 1934, racism was rife, they had coloured championship fights too.

It was likely to draw ethnic fans because the same poster lists everyone's ethnicity. It was probably an invitation to come out root for your guy thereby building up the gate.

Many of those BoxRec wiki The Ring pages/issues, starting with the 1922 issues, have an asterisk--which means it has a scan of the Table of Contents. Also, all BoxRec wiki pages have a search box.

I have got 1928 complete and about 90 copies from the 1930s. I am mainly a British historian and don't really research US stuff but I just love these old Ring magazines. If I can ever be of any help to anyone with these then please, just ask.
