Per the WBC
WBC featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr. (31-1, 18 KOs), will make his annual ring appearance against his mandatory challenger, Mexico's Rey Vargas (34-0, 22 KOs).
Russell has not fought since defeating Mongolia’s Tugstsogt Nyambayar in February last year. Vargas, a former WBC super bantamweight champion, was named champion in recess due to a leg injury. He has not fought since defeating Tomoki Kameda in July 2019.
Fully recovered, Vargas was named as the mandatory challenger for the featherweight division. Promoter Tom Brown, leader of TGB Promotions, will announce the date and place for this bout shortly.
